Abstract

Technologies for providing out-of-order network packet management and selective data flow splitting include a computing device. The computing device includes circuitry to identify a service data flow associated with a set of packets to be sent to a recipient computing device. The circuitry is also to determine a target quality of service for the service data flow, determine, as a function of the target quality of service, one or more radio links on which to send the packets, including determining whether to split the service data flow over multiple radio links, and send the packets through the determined one or more radio links.

at least one memory; and

circuitry to:

determine a target quality of service for the service data flow before the packets associated with the service data flow are to be sent from the computing device to a recipient computing device;

determine, based on the target quality of service, one or more radio links on which to send the packets, and determine, based on the target quality of service, whether to split the service data flow over multiple ones of the one or more radio links; and

send the packets through the determined one or more radio links.

2. The computing device of claim 1 , wherein to identify the service data flow, the circuitry is to identify, from data present in layer 3 or layer 4 headers of the packets, the service data flow.

3. The computing device of claim 1 , wherein to determine the target quality of service for the service data flow, the circuitry is to obtain, from another compute device, quality of service data associated with the service data flow.

4. The computing device of claim 1 , wherein to determine the target quality of service for the service data flow, the circuitry is to determine the target quality of service from characteristics of previous communications associated with the service data flow.

5. The computing device of claim 4 , wherein to determine the target quality of service from characteristics of the previous communications associated with the service data flow, the circuitry is to determine a previous throughput associated with the service data flow.

6. The computing device of claim 1 , wherein to determine, based on the target quality of service, the one or more radio links on which to send the packets, the circuitry is to determine quality of service capabilities of each radio link of a set of available radio links.

7. The computing device of claim 1 , wherein to determine, based on the target quality of service, the one or more radio links on which to send the packets, the circuitry is to determine to send the packets through a single radio link in response to a determination that the target quality of service indicates a sensitivity to latency or jitter.

8. The computing device of claim 1 , wherein to determine, based on the target quality of service, the one or more radio links on which to send the packets, the circuitry is to determine to send the packets through multiple radio links in response to a determination that the target quality of service does not indicate a sensitivity to latency or jitter.

9. The computing device of claim 1 , wherein to determine, based on the target quality of service, the one or more radio links on which to send the packets, the circuitry is to balance congestion among multiple radio links in a set of available radio links.

10. A method comprising:

identifying, by a computing device, a service data flow associated with packets generated by an application being executed by the computing device;

determining, by the computing device, a target quality of service for the service data flow before sending the packets associated with the service data flow from the computing device to a recipient computing device;

determining, by the computing device and based on the target quality of service, one or more radio links on which to send the packets, the determining including determining whether to split the service data flow over multiple ones of the one or more radio links; and

sending, by the computing device, the packets through the determined one or more radio links.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the identifying of the service data flow includes identifying, from data present in layer 3 or layer 4 headers of the packets, the service data flow.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the determining of the target quality of service for the service data flow includes determining the target quality of service from characteristics of previous communications associated with the service data flow.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the determining of the target quality of service from the characteristics of the previous communications associated with the service data flow includes determining a previous throughput associated with the service data flow.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the determining, based on the target quality of service, of the one or more radio links on which to send the packets includes determining quality of service capabilities of each radio link of a set of available radio links.

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein the determining, based on the target quality of service, of the one or more radio links on which to send the packets includes determining to send the packets through a single radio link in response to a determination that the target quality of service indicates a sensitivity to latency or jitter.

16. The method of claim 10 , wherein the determining, based on the target quality of service, of the one or more radio links on which to send the packets includes determining to send the packets through multiple radio links in response to a determination that the target quality of service does not indicate a sensitivity to latency or jitter.

17. The method of claim 10 , wherein the determining, based on the target quality of service, of the one or more radio links on which to send the packets includes balancing congestion among multiple radio links in a set of available radio links.

18. At least one article of manufacture comprising computer readable instructions that, when executed, cause a computing device to at least:

identify a service data flow associated with packets to be generated by an application to be executed by the computing device;

determine a target quality of service for the service data flow before the packets associated with the service data flow are to be sent from the computing device to a recipient computing device;

determine, based on the target quality of service, one or more radio links on which to send the packets, and determine, based on the target quality of service, whether to split the service data flow over multiple ones of the one or more radio links; and

send the packets through the determined one or more radio links.

19. The at least one article of manufacture of claim 18 , wherein the instructions are to cause the computing device to identify the service data flow from data present in layer 3 or layer 4 headers of the packets.

20. The at least one article of manufacture of claim 18 , wherein the instructions are to cause the computing device to determine the target quality of service for the service data flow from characteristics of previous communications associated with the service data flow.
