Abstract

Prosthesis devices can include sockets having adjustable features. In one example, a socket includes one or more panels that can move outwardly or inwardly relative to a receptacle portion of the socket. The panels can be moved by tightening a tensioning line.

Claims (31)

1. A method of manufacturing an adjustable prosthetic socket, comprising:

forming or obtaining a wall structure of a prosthetic socket, wherein the wall structure comprises one or more guide channels through which a tensioning line can extend;

advancing a tensioning line through the one or more guide channels; and

coupling the tensioning line to a tightening mechanism, wherein the tightening mechanism is configured to adjust tension in the tensioning line so as to apply a compressive force on the adjustable prosthetic socket.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

coupling the tightening mechanism to the prosthetic socket.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the tightening mechanism comprises an actuator comprising at least one of a knob, a lever, or a button.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more guide channels are integral to the wall structure.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wall structure comprises one or more laminated layers.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wall structure comprises one or more plastic resins.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the tightening member comprises an actuator coupled to a spool, wherein actuation of the actuator effects rotation of the spool to wind or unwind the tensioning line about the spool to increase or decrease tension in the tensioning line.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wall structure comprises a compression region.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wall structure comprises one or more gaps between portions of the wall structure.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the wall structure comprises one or more ports, wherein one or more panels are disposed in the one or more ports, the one or more panels being configured to move relative to the wall structure.

11. A method of manufacturing an adjustable prosthetic socket, comprising:

forming or obtaining a wall structure of a prosthetic socket, wherein the wall structure comprises one or more guide channels integral to the wall structure through which a tensioning line can extend, wherein the wall structure further comprises a tightening mechanism coupled thereto;

advancing a tensioning line through the one or more guide channels; and

coupling the tensioning line to the tightening mechanism, wherein the tightening mechanism is configured to adjust tension in the tensioning line so as to apply a compressive force on the adjustable prosthetic socket.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the tightening mechanism comprises an actuator comprising at least one of a knob, a lever, or a button.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the wall structure comprises one or more laminated layers.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the wall structure comprises one or more plastic resins.

15. The method of claim 11 , wherein the tightening member comprises an actuator coupled to a spool, wherein actuation of the actuator effects rotation of the spool to wind or unwind the tensioning line about the spool to increase or decrease tension in the tensioning line.

16. The method of claim 11 , wherein the wall structure comprises a compression region.

17. The method of claim 11 , wherein the wall structure comprises one or more gaps between portions of the wall structure.

18. The method of claim 11 , wherein the wall structure comprises one or more ports, wherein one or more panels are disposed in the one or more ports, the one or more panels being configured to move relative to the wall structure.

19. A method of manufacturing an adjustable prosthetic socket, comprising:

forming or obtaining a wall structure of a prosthetic socket, wherein the wall structure comprises one or more guide channels through which a tensioning line can extend;

advancing a tensioning line through the one or more guide channels;

coupling a tightening mechanism to the prosthetic socket; and

coupling the tensioning line to the tightening mechanism, wherein the tightening mechanism is configured to adjust tension in the tensioning line so as to apply a compressive force on the adjustable prosthetic socket.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the wall structure comprises one or more plastic resins.
