Abstract

Ambulatory medical devices, which includes ambulatory medicament pumps, and blood glucose control systems that provide therapy to a subject, such as blood glucose control, are disclosed. Disclosed systems and devices can implement one or more features that improve the user experience, such as prompting and/or facilitating the user to order additional infusion sets, sensors, and/or other components to facilitate treatment.

Claims (79)

1. An ambulatory medicament pump configured to monitor a usage of analyte sensors over a period by receiving at least one of a plurality of analyte sensor change indications during the period, the ambulatory medicament pump comprising:

an analyte sensor interface configured to facilitate communication with an analyte sensor;

a wireless data interface configured to facilitate communication with a remote electronic device;

a non-transitory memory configured to store specific computer-executable instructions; and

an electronic processor in communication with the non-transitory memory and configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:

receive an indication of a number of initial analyte sensors in possession of a subject;

monitor a usage of analyte sensors over a period by receiving at least one of a plurality of analyte sensor change indications during the period, wherein the plurality of analyte sensor change indications comprises:

an electronic analyte sensor change request, received via user interaction with a sensor change interface, to change an analyte sensor operatively connected to the ambulatory medicament pump;

an analyte sensor expiration alert, received from the remote electronic device via the wireless data interface, indicating that an analyte sensor has expired or has passed or is at an expiration threshold; and

an analyte sensor failure alert, received via an analyte sensor monitoring system of the ambulatory medicament pump, indicating that an analyte sensor operatively connected to the ambulatory medicament pump has a failure; and

transmit analyte sensor data regarding the usage of the analyte sensors, via the wireless data interface, to the remote electronic device.

2. The ambulatory medicament pump of claim 1 , wherein the remote electronic device is a remote computing environment.

3. The ambulatory medicament pump of claim 1 , wherein the electronic processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:

receive, via the wireless data interface, a reordering message from the remote electronic device that indicates that an estimate of remaining analyte sensors in possession of the subject at the end of the period, based on the number of initial analyte sensors and the usage of analyte sensors during the period, has fallen below a reordering threshold.

4. The ambulatory medicament pump of claim 3 , wherein the electronic processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:

in response to receiving the reordering message from the remote electronic device, automatically generate a user prompt comprising an analyte sensor ordering interface;

receive, via user interaction with the analyte sensor ordering interface, a request to order additional sensors; and

in response to receiving the request to order additional sensors, transmit a purchase order for additional analyte sensors.

5. The ambulatory medicament pump of claim 1 , wherein the electronic processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:

receive, via the wireless data interface, a reordering message from the remote electronic device that indicates that an estimate of remaining analyte sensors in possession of the subject at the end of the period, based on the number of initial analyte sensors and the usage of analyte sensors during the period, has fallen below a reordering threshold and recommending that a quantity of additional analyte sensors be ordered.

6. The ambulatory medicament pump of claim 5 , wherein the recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors is based at least in part on the usage of analyte sensors over the period of time.

7. The ambulatory medicament pump of claim 1 , wherein the electronic processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:

receive, via the wireless data interface, a reordering message from the remote electronic device that indicates that an estimate of remaining analyte sensors in possession of the subject at the end of the period, based on the number of initial analyte sensors and the usage of analyte sensors during the period, has fallen below a reordering threshold and additional analyte sensors have been ordered.

The ambulatory medicament pump of claim 7 , wherein the remote electronic device comprises payment account data associated with the subject, and wherein the remote electronic device is configured to automatically process payment for the ordered additional analyte sensors using the payment account data associated with the subject.

9. The ambulatory medicament pump of claim 1 , wherein one or more of the analyte sensors are insulin sensors or glucose sensors.

10. The ambulatory medicament pump of claim 1 , wherein the remote electronic device sends an indication of the analyte sensor expiration alert based on a correlation of a ship date of one of the analyte sensors with an expiration date of the analyte sensor.

11. The ambulatory medicament pump of claim 1 , wherein the remote electronic device sends an indication of the analyte sensor expiration alert based on electronic expiration information associated with one or more of the analyte sensors.

12. The ambulatory medicament pump of claim 1 , wherein the analyte sensor expiration alert comprises electronic expiration information associated with one or more of the analyte sensors.

13. A method of monitoring a usage of analyte sensors for an ambulatory medicament pump of a glucose level control system, the method comprising:

by an electronic processor of a glucose level control system executing specific computer-executable instructions stored in a non-transitory memory in communication with the electronic processor:

receiving an indication of a number of initial analyte sensors in possession of a subject;

monitoring a usage of analyte sensors over a period by receiving at least one of a plurality of analyte sensor change indications during the period, wherein the plurality of analyte sensor change indications comprises:

receiving, via user interaction with a sensor change interface, an electronic analyte sensor change request, to change an analyte sensor operatively connected to an ambulatory medicament pump;

receiving, from a remote electronic device via a wireless data interface, an analyte sensor expiration alert, indicating that an analyte sensor has expired or has passed or is at an expiration threshold; and

receiving, via an analyte sensor monitoring system of the ambulatory medicament pump, an analyte sensor failure alert indicating that an analyte sensor operatively connected to the ambulatory medicament pump has a failure; and

transmitting analyte sensor data regarding the usage of analyte sensors, via the wireless data interface, to the remote electronic device.

The method of claim 13 , further comprising receiving, via the wireless data interface, a reordering message from the remote electronic device that indicates that an estimate of remaining analyte sensors in possession of the subject at the end of the period, based on the number of initial analyte sensors and the usage of analyte sensors during the period, has fallen below a reordering threshold.

15. The method of claim 14 , further comprising:

automatically generating a user prompt comprising an analyte sensor ordering interface in response to receiving the reordering message from the remote electronic device;

receiving, via user interaction with the analyte sensor ordering interface, a request to order additional analyte sensors; and

transmitting a purchase order for additional analyte sensors in response to receiving the request to order additional analyte sensors.

The method of claim 13 , further comprising receiving, via the wireless data interface, a reordering message from the remote electronic device that indicates that an estimate of remaining analyte sensors in possession of the subject at the end of the period, based on the number of initial analyte sensors and the usage of analyte sensors during the period, has fallen below a reordering threshold and recommending that a quantity of additional analyte sensors be ordered.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors is preset.

18. The method of claim 13 , wherein the remote electronic device comprises payment account data associated with the subject that is configured to be used to automatically process payment for a purchase order of additional analyte sensors.

19. The method of claim 13 , wherein the remote electronic device is in communication with an insurance provider system associated with the subject, and wherein the remote electronic device is configured to automatically send a purchase order for additional analyte sensors to the insurance provider system for processing.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the remote electronic device comprises payment account data associated with the subject, and wherein the remote electronic device is configured to automatically process payment for the purchase order for additional analyte sensors using the payment account data associated with the subject and data provided by the insurance provider system.

21. A glucose level control system configured to monitor a usage of analyte sensors over a period by receiving at least one of a plurality of analyte sensor change indications during the period, the glucose level control system comprising:

a wireless data interface configured to facilitate communication with a remote electronic device;

a non-transitory memory configured to store specific computer-executable instructions; and

an electronic processor in communication with the non-transitory memory and configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:

receive an indication of a number of initial analyte sensors in possession of a subject;

monitor a usage of analyte sensors over a period by receiving at least one of a plurality of analyte sensor change indications during the period, wherein the plurality of analyte sensor change indications comprises:

an electronic analyte sensor change request, received via user interaction with a sensor change interface, to change an analyte sensor;

an analyte sensor expiration alert, received from the remote electronic device via the wireless data interface, indicating that an analyte sensor has expired or has passed or is at an expiration threshold; and

an analyte sensor failure alert indicating that an analyte sensor has a failure; and

transmit analyte sensor data regarding the usage of the analyte sensors, via the wireless data interface, to the remote electronic device.

22. The glucose level control system of claim 21 , wherein one of the analyte sensors is connected to an ambulatory medicament pump of the glucose level control system.

23. The glucose level control system of claim 21 , wherein the electronic processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:

receive, via the wireless data interface, a reordering message from the remote electronic device that indicates that an estimate of remaining analyte sensors in possession of the subject at the end of the period, based on the number of initial analyte sensors and the usage of analyte sensors during the period, has fallen below a reordering threshold and recommending that a quantity of additional analyte sensors be ordered.

24. The glucose level control system of claim 23 , wherein the electronic processor is further configured to execute the specific computer-executable instructions to at least:

in response to receiving the reordering message from the remote electronic device, automatically generate a user prompt comprising an analyte sensor ordering interface that provides at least the recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors to be ordered;

receive, via user interaction with the analyte sensor ordering interface, a request to order the recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors; and

in response to receiving the request to order the recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors, transmit a purchase order for the recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors.

25. The glucose level control system of claim 23 , wherein the recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors is set by an individual involved in administering therapy to the subject.

The glucose level control system of claim 24 , wherein the remote electronic device is in communication with an insurance provider system associated with the subject, and wherein the remote electronic device is configured to automatically send the purchase order for recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors to the insurance provider system for processing.

27. A method of monitoring a usage of analyte sensors for a glucose level control system, the method comprising:

by an electronic processor of a glucose level control system executing specific computer-executable instructions stored in a non-transitory memory in communication with the electronic processor:

receiving an indication of a number of initial analyte sensors in possession of a subject;

monitoring a usage of analyte sensors over a period by receiving at least one of a plurality of analyte sensor change indications during the period, wherein the plurality of analyte sensor change indications comprises:

receiving, via user interaction with a sensor change interface, an electronic analyte sensor change request, to change an analyte sensor;

receiving, from a remote electronic device via a wireless data interface, an analyte sensor expiration alert, indicating that an analyte sensor has expired or has passed or is at an expiration threshold; and

receiving an analyte sensor failure alert indicating that an analyte sensor has a failure; and

transmitting analyte sensor data regarding the usage of analyte sensors, via the wireless data interface, to the remote electronic device.

28. The method of claim 27 , wherein one of the analyte sensors is connected to an ambulatory medicament pump of the glucose level control system.

29. The method of claim 27 , further comprising receiving, via the wireless data interface, a reordering message from the remote electronic device that indicates that an estimate of remaining analyte sensors in possession of the subject at the end of the period, based on the number of initial analyte sensors and the usage of analyte sensors during the period, has fallen below a reordering threshold and additional analyte sensors have been ordered.

30. The method of claim 29 , further comprising:

automatically generating a user prompt comprising an analyte sensor ordering interface that provides at least a recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors to be ordered in response to receiving the reordering message from the remote electronic device;

receiving, via user interaction with the analyte sensor ordering interface, a request to order the recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors; and

transmitting a purchase order for the recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors in response to receiving the request to order the recommended quantity of additional analyte sensors.
