Abstract

A syringe cartridge including a reservoir part and an extension extending from the reservoir part. The extension defining a fluid path and including a molding and a first needle extending from the molding. The extension turning to a finite angle with respect to an axis of the reservoir part and at least part of the first needle is likewise at the finite angle. At least some of the part of the first needle at the finite angle being enclosed within the molding of the fluid path. A drug delivery device may be used with the cartridge and includes a skin-contacting surface. In use the longitudinal axis of the interior of the cartridge may be disposed substantially parallel to the skin-contacting surface.

Claims (20)

1. A cartridge comprising:

a barrel defining:

a reservoir for receiving a substance therein;

a proximal end that is open;

a distal end that opposes the proximal end; and

a longitudinal central axis extending from the distal end to the proximal end; and

an arm projecting distally from the distal end of the barrel and having a portion that is bent at a fixed angle relative to the longitudinal central axis of the barrel, the arm being in fluid communication with the reservoir and defining a fluid path between the reservoir and the arm,

wherein the arm comprises an injection needle in continuous fluid communication with the reservoir and defining a portion of the fluid path, the injection needle having a beveled terminal needle tip defining a distally facing opening, and

wherein the arm projects from the distal end of the barrel at a location offset from the longitudinal central axis so as to define a space between the longitudinal central axis and the arm where the arm and the distal end of the barrel attach.

2. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the arm is bent toward a bottom side of the barrel.

3. The cartridge of claim 2 , wherein the arm includes a first portion projecting from the distal end of the barrel in a direction parallel with the longitudinal central axis, and the portion that is bent is a second portion defining an axis oriented at the fixed angle of between 30 to 150 degrees with respect to the longitudinal central axis.

4. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the injection needle includes a portion that is bent and coincides with the portion that is bent of the arm at the fixed angle.

5. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the arm and the barrel define a monolithic structure.

6. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the longitudinal central axis defines a vertical central plane extending through the longitudinal central axis in a direction from a top side to a bottom side of the reservoir, and wherein the vertical central plane extends through a center of the arm.

7. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the arm projects from the distal end of the barrel at a location positioned above the longitudinal central axis of the barrel.

8. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the injection needle extends through an entirety of the arm.

9. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein a terminal end of the injection needle extends beyond a terminal end of the arm.

10. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the reservoir is prefilled with the sub stance.

11. The cartridge of claim 1 , wherein the reservoir is formed from a polymer.

12. The cartridge of claim 1 , further comprising a needle cap configured to attach to the reservoir and to enclose the arm.
