Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for improving safety of one or more vehicle occupants. An example method for improving safety of one or more vehicle occupants includes accessing interior vehicle configuration data that is generated by, or derived from data generated by an interior data collection component, the data representing an interior space of a vehicle; determining, by processing the interior vehicle configuration data, location and orientation of one or more vehicle occupants; selecting a plurality of vehicle safety components to be active based on the location and orientation of the one or more vehicle occupants, and setting the plurality of vehicle safety components to an active state in which the plurality of vehicle safety components are deployed, when an emergency condition is detected.

Claims (41)

1. A method for improving safety of one or more vehicle occupants, the method comprising:

accessing vehicle occupant data that is generated by, or derived from data generated by an interior data collection component, the data representing one or more physiological conditions and/or traits of the one or more vehicle occupants;

determining, by processing the vehicle occupant data, the one or more physiological conditions and/or traits of the one or more vehicle occupants;

selecting one or more manners in which to deploy one or more vehicle safety components based upon the one or more physiological conditions and/or traits of the one or more vehicle occupants; and

setting the plurality of vehicle safety components to an active state in which the plurality of vehicle safety components are deployed according to the one or more manners, when an emergency condition is detected.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising activating one or more actuator components to deploy the one or more vehicle safety components according to the one or more manners.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein each of the one or more actuator components is configured to deploy a respective one of the one or more vehicle safety components by at least moving the respective vehicle safety component forward, backward, upward, downward, outward, inward, clockwise, counterclockwise, and/or laterally relative to the vehicle.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving driving environment data that is generated by, or derived from data generated by an external communication component, the data representing a driving environment of the vehicle; and

detecting, by processing the driving environment data, the emergency condition.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the emergency condition includes at least one of an impending collision between the vehicle and one or more objects external to the vehicle, a fire within the vehicle, a medical emergency suffered by the one or more vehicle occupants, a particular type of vehicle traffic, a particular type of weather, and/or a particular type of terrain.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more vehicle safety components includes at least one of an airbag, a seatbelt, a pillow, a pad, a cushion, a body stabilizer, and/or a fire-extinguishing agent.

7. A system for improving safety of one or more vehicle occupants, the system comprising:

one or more processors; and

a memory unit storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to:

receive vehicle occupant data that includes, or is derived from data collected by an interior data collection component, the data representing one or more physiological conditions and/or traits of the one or more vehicle occupants;

determine, by processing the vehicle occupant data, the one or more physiological conditions and/or traits of the one or more vehicle occupants;

select one or more manners in which to deploy one or more vehicle safety components based upon the one or more physiological conditions and/or traits of the one or more vehicle occupants; and

set the one or more vehicle safety components to an active state in which the one or more vehicle safety components are deployed according to the one or more manners, when an emergency condition is detected.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to activate one or more actuator components to deploy the one or more vehicle safety components according to the one or more manners.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein each of the one or more actuator components is configured to deploy a respective one of the one or more vehicle safety components by at least moving the respective vehicle safety component forward, backward, upward, downward, outward, inward, clockwise, counterclockwise, and/or laterally relative to the vehicle.

10. The system of claim 7 , wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to:

access driving environment data that includes, or is derived from data that includes, the data collected by an external communication component, the data representing a driving environment of the vehicle;

detect, by processing the driving environment data, the emergency condition; and

in response to detecting the emergency condition, cause one or more actuator components to deploy the one or more plurality of vehicle safety components according to the one or more manners.

11. The system of claim 7 , wherein the emergency condition includes at least one of an impending collision between the vehicle and one or more objects external to the vehicle, a fire within the vehicle, a medical emergency suffered by the one or more vehicle occupants, a particular type of vehicle traffic, a particular type of weather, and/or a particular type of terrain.

12. The system of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of vehicle safety components includes at least one of an airbag, a seatbelt, a pillow, a pad, a cushion, a body stabilizer, and/or a fire-extinguishing agent.

13. The system of claim 7 , wherein the plurality of vehicle safety components are partially or wholly contained within at least one of a front, a back, a left side, a right side, a ceiling, or a floor of the vehicle.

14. A system for improving safety of one or more vehicle occupants, the system comprising:

one or more processors; and

a memory unit storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to:

access vehicle occupant data that includes, or is derived from data collected by an interior data collection component, the data representing one or more physiological conditions and/or traits of the one or more vehicle occupants;

determine, by processing the vehicle occupant data, the one or more physiological conditions and/or traits of the one or more vehicle occupants; and

cause an actuator component to adjust a vehicle safety component from a first physical configuration to a second physical configuration, wherein the second physical configuration is determined based upon the one or more physiological conditions and/or traits of the one or more vehicle occupants.

15. The system of claim 14 , wherein the actuator component is configured to adjust the vehicle safety component from the first physical configuration to the second physical configuration by at least moving the vehicle safety component forward, backward, upward, downward, outward, inward, clockwise, counterclockwise, and/or laterally relative to the vehicle.

16. The system of claim 14 wherein the instructions, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to:

access driving environment data that includes, or is derived from data collected by an external communication component, the data representing a driving environment of the vehicle;

detect, by processing the driving environment data, the emergency condition; and

in response to detecting the emergency condition, cause the actuator component to deploy the vehicle safety component according to the one or more manners.

17. The system of claim 14 , wherein the emergency condition includes at least one of an impending collision between the vehicle and one or more objects external to the vehicle, a fire within the vehicle, a medical emergency suffered by the one or more vehicle occupants, a particular type of vehicle traffic, a particular type of weather, and/or a particular type of terrain, and

wherein the vehicle safety component includes at least one of an airbag, a seatbelt, a pillow, a pad, a cushion, a body stabilizer, and/or a fire-extinguishing agent.
