Abstract

A gaming system including one or more gaming machines provides a game to one or more players. The game includes a primary game and a bonus game with first and second features. In the first feature a plurality of objects are presented to a player. The player is allowed to select one of the objects and an associated award may be awarded. Any unselected objects are added to an escrow meter. In the second feature, the player is allowed to select one or more of the escrow objects.

Claims (70)

1. A gaming system, comprising:

a plurality of gaming machines, each gaming machine including an upper display and a lower display including a touchscreen; and

a bonus award controller coupled to each of the gaming machines, the bonus award controller including a processor programed to execute an algorithm to display an animated sequence of computer-generated images on the upper and lower displays of each gaming machine including the steps of:

displaying an escrow meter on the upper display of each of the gaming machines, the escrow meter including computer generated images of a plurality of escrow objects; and

initiating a bonus select event on a gaming machine upon detecting a first trigger condition associated with the gaming machine by:

displaying the bonus select event on the lower display of the gaming machine including rendering images of two escrow objects on the touchscreen;

receiving a selection of one of the two escrow objects by the player via the touchscreen and modifying an image of the selected escrow object to display a corresponding award associated with a selected escrow object; and

modifying the escrow meter to add an image of an unselected object to the plurality of escrow objects included in the escrow meter being displayed on the upper display of each of the gaming machines;

detecting a second trigger condition at an associated gaming machine and initiating a bonus award event at the associated gaming machine by:

animating the plurality of escrow objects from the escrow meter being displayed on the upper display of the associated gaming machine to the touchscreen of the lower display of the associated gaming machine;

animating a prompting image on the touchscreen to prompt the player to select each of the plurality of escrow objects displayed on the touchscreen of the lower display of the associated gaming machine; and

displaying each escrow award associated with each of the plurality of escrow objects as each escrow object is selected by the player via the touchscreen.

2. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of:

removing the plurality of escrow objects from each escrow meter being displayed on the upper display of other gaming machines when the bonus award event is initiated at the associated gaming machine.

3. The gaming system of claim 2 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of:

populating the escrow meter with a predefined number of new escrow objects upon completing the bonus award event.

4. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of:

allowing the player to individually select each of the plurality of escrow objects displayed on the lower display of the associated gaming machine.

5. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of:

allowing the player to simultaneously select each of the plurality of escrow objects displayed on the lower display of the associated gaming machine.

6. The gaming system of claim 1 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of:

moving an initial subset of the plurality of escrow objects from the escrow meter being displayed on the upper display of the associated gaming machine to the lower display of the associated gaming machine;

prompting the player to select each of the initial subset of the plurality of escrow objects being displayed;

moving any remaining escrow objects from the escrow meter being displayed on the upper display of the associated gaming machine to the lower display of the associated gaming machine after displaying each escrow award associated with the initial subset of the plurality of escrow objects; and

prompting the player to select each remaining escrow object being displayed.

7. The gaming system of claim 1 , further comprising a central display, wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of displaying the escrow meter on the central display.

8. A gaming machine, comprising:

a cabinet;

a display device mounted to the cabinet, the display device including an upper display and a lower display including a touchscreen; and

a bonus award controller including processor programed to execute an algorithm to display an animated sequence of computer-generated images on the upper and lower displays including the steps of:

displaying an escrow meter on the upper display, the escrow meter including computer generated images of a plurality of escrow objects; and

initiating a bonus select event upon detecting a first trigger condition by:

displaying the bonus select event on the lower display including rendering images of two escrow objects on the touchscreen;

receiving a selection of one of the two escrow objects by the player via the touchscreen and modifying an image of the selected escrow object to display a corresponding award associated with a selected escrow object; and

modifying the escrow meter to add an image of an unselected object to the plurality of escrow objects included in the escrow meter being displayed on the upper display;

detecting a second trigger condition and initiating a bonus award event by:

animating the plurality of escrow objects from the escrow meter being displayed on the upper display to the touchscreen of the lower display;

animating a prompting image on the touchscreen to prompt the player to select each of the plurality of escrow objects displayed on the touchscreen of the lower display; and

displaying each escrow award associated with each of the plurality of escrow objects as each escrow object is selected by the player via the touchscreen.

9. The gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of:

populating the escrow meter with a predefined number of new escrow objects upon completing the bonus award event.

10. The gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of:

allowing the player to individually select each of the plurality of escrow objects displayed on the lower display.

11. The gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of:

allowing the player to simultaneously select each of the plurality of escrow objects displayed on the lower display.

12. The gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein the processor is programmed to execute the algorithm including the steps of:

moving an initial subset of the plurality of escrow objects from the escrow meter being displayed on the upper display to the lower display;

prompting the player to select each of the initial subset of the plurality of escrow objects being displayed;

moving any remaining escrow objects from the escrow meter being displayed on the upper display to the lower display after displaying each escrow award associated with the initial subset of the plurality of escrow objects; and

prompting the player to select each remaining escrow object being displayed.

13. A method of operating a gaming system including a plurality of gaming machines and a bonus award controller including a processor coupled to each of the gaming machines, each gaming machine including an upper display and a lower display including a touchscreen, the method including the processor performing the algorithm to display an animated sequence of computer-generated images on the upper and lower displays of each gaming machine steps of:

displaying an escrow meter on the upper display of each of the gaming machines, the escrow meter including computer generated images of a plurality of escrow objects; and
