Abstract

Embodiments of a prosthetic heart valve comprise an annular main body, an atrial cap extending radially outwardly from the atrial end of the main body, and a plurality of ventricular anchors extending outwardly from the ventricular end of the main body. Each ventricular anchor can have a proximal end portion connected to the ventricular end, an intermediate portion extending away from the atrial end and then back toward the atrial so as to define a first bend, and a free distal end portion that extends from the intermediate portion. The distal end portion can comprise a first section, a second section, and a second bend between the first and second sections, the first section extending from the intermediate portion in a direction toward the atrial end and radially away from the main body.

Claims (33)

1. A prosthetic valve for implanting at a native mitral or tricuspid valve region of the heart, the prosthetic valve comprising:

a radially compressible and expandable frame comprising an inflow end, an outflow end, and a double-body structure having an annular inner frame and an annular outer frame, the inner frame having a main body comprising a plurality of circumferentially extending rows of angled struts and the annular outer frame having an upper portion proximate the inflow end and configured to contact an atrial face of a native valve annulus;

a plurality of prosthetic leaflets mounted within the inner frame for regulating the flow of blood in one direction through the frame; and

a plurality of ventricular anchors, each comprising a free end portion, an intermediate portion, and a fixed end portion connected to and extending from an intersection of adjacent angled struts in one of the circumferentially extending rows of angled struts of the inner frame, the intermediate portion extending downwardly from the fixed end portion and then curving upwardly in a direction toward the inflow end such that each ventricular anchor is configured to extend behind and engage native valve leaflets in a ventricle of the heart, wherein the fixed end portion of each ventricular anchor is connected to and extends from the intersection of adjacent angled struts that forms a node spaced from an outflow end of the main body of the inner frame.

2. The prosthetic valve of claim 1 , wherein each ventricular anchor extends radially outward from the main body of the inner frame and the outer frame.

3. The prosthetic valve of claim 1 , wherein the free end portion of each ventricular anchor terminates in a closed loop to form an anchor head portion configured to engage the native valve leaflets in the ventricle of the heart.

4. The prosthetic valve of claim 1 , wherein the free end portion of each ventricular anchor is wider in a circumferential direction than the intermediate portion and the fixed end portion.

5. The prosthetic valve of claim 1 , wherein the inner frame further comprises a plurality of tabs, each extending axially from an apex formed by the intersection of adjacent angled struts at an inflow end of the main body of the inner frame.

6. The prosthetic valve of claim 5 , wherein each tab comprises a longitudinally extending straight section and an enlarged end portion that is wider than the straight section.

7. The prosthetic valve of claim 6 , wherein the enlarged end portion of each tab has a curved upper surface pointing away from the inflow end of the main body of the inner frame.

8. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 5 , wherein the outer frame has a main body comprising a plurality of struts forming a plurality of apices at an inflow end of the main body of the outer frame, wherein the apices of the outer frame overlap adjacent apices at the inflow end of the main body of the inner frame.

9. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the intermediate portion of at least one of the plurality of ventricular anchors comprises a pattern of repeating turns.

10. The prosthetic heart valve of claim 1 , wherein the inner frame portion and the outer frame portion are attached to each other with sutures.

11. A prosthetic valve for implanting at a native mitral or tricuspid valve region of the heart, the prosthetic valve comprising:

A radially compressible and expandable frame comprising a double-body structure having an annular inner frame portion and an annular outer frame portion connected to and circumferentially overlapping the inner frame portion, wherein the inner frame portion and the outer frame portion are connected by locking tabs or sutures;

a plurality of ventricular anchors connected to and extending from an outlet end of the inner frame portion, each ventricular anchor being connected to the inner frame independently from each adjacent ventricular anchor, spaced circumferentially at equal intervals around the inner frame portion, and configured to extend radially outwardly in a downstream direction from the outlet end of the frame and then curve in an upstream direction toward an inlet end of the frame such that each ventricular anchor is configured to extend behind and engage native valve leaflets in a ventricle of the heart; and

a valve structure mounted within the inner frame portion, the valve structure having a plurality of prosthetic leaflets configured to regulate the flow of blood in one direction through the frame.

12. The prosthetic valve of claim 11 , wherein the frame further comprises an outer fabric skirt extending around an outer surface of the outer frame portion such that the fabric skirt is located inside each of the ventricular anchors.

13. The prosthetic valve of claim 11 , wherein the frame further comprises an inner fabric skirt extending round an inner surface of the inner frame portion.

14. The prosthetic valve of claim 11 , wherein each ventricular anchor is covered in fabric.

15. The prosthetic valve of claim 11 , wherein each ventricular anchor comprises an enlarged head portion configured to engage native tissue of the ventricle of the heart.

16. The prosthetic valve of claim 11 , wherein a height of the inner frame portion is the same height as a height of the outer frame portion.

17. The prosthetic valve of claim 11 , wherein each ventricular anchor is formed from a single strut.

18. The prosthetic valve of claim 11 , wherein the inner frame portion is more rigid relative to the outer frame portion.

19. The prosthetic valve of claim 11 , wherein the inner frame portion and the outer frame portion are connected by locking tabs.

20. The prosthetic valve of claim 11 , wherein the inner frame portion and the outer frame portion are connected by sutures.

21. A prosthetic valve for implanting at a native mitral or tricuspid valve region of the heart, the prosthetic valve comprising:

a radially compressible and expandable frame comprising an inlet end, an outlet end, and a double-body structure having an annular inner frame portion and an annular outer frame portion circumferentially overlapping and connected to the inner frame portion, the inner frame portion and the outer frame portion, each having a main body comprising a plurality of circumferentially extending rows of angled struts, wherein the inner frame portion and the outer frame portion are attached to each other by welding, interlocking tabs, sutures, wire, or pins;

a valve structure mounted within the inner frame portion, the valve structure having a plurality of prosthetic leaflets configured to regulate the flow of blood in one direction through the frame; and
