Abstract

An electrical assembly may include a contactor, a bus bar connected to the contactor, a bracket connected to the bus bar, and/or a cooling member. The cooling member may be connected to the bracket such that the contactor is indirectly connected to the cooling member via the bus bar and the bracket. A method of assembling an electrical assembly may include providing a bracket and one or more contactors, inserting the one or more contactors into the bracket, disposing a flexible circuit at least partially on and/or in the bracket, electrically connecting the flexible circuit with the one or more contactors, connecting a bus bar assembly with the one or more contactors, connecting the bus bar assembly with the bracket, disposing a cooling member on or about the bracket, and/or connecting the cooling member with the bracket.

Claims (56)

1. An electrical assembly, comprising:

a contactor;

a bus bar connected to the contactor;

a bracket connected to the bus bar;

a cooling member connected to the bracket such that the contactor is indirectly connected to the cooling member via the bus bar and the bracket; and

one or more additional contactors connected to the bracket;

wherein the one or more additional contactors are connected to respective additional bus bars that are connected to the bracket such that the one or more additional contactors are indirectly connected to the cooling member via the respective additional bus bars and the bracket.

2. The electrical assembly of claim 1 , wherein the contactor is fixed directly to and in contact with the bus bar;

the bus bar is fixed directly to and in contact with the bracket; and

the bracket is fixed directly to and in contact with the cooling member.

3. The electrical assembly of claim 1 , wherein the contactor includes a first terminal and a second terminal disposed at a first end of the contactor; and

the bus bar is directly connected to one of the first terminal and the second terminal.

4. The electrical assembly of claim 1 , wherein the contactor includes an electrical terminal disposed at or about a first end of the contactor; and

a second end of the contactor extends beyond the bracket such that the second end of the contactor is exposed.

5. The electrical assembly of claim 4 , wherein an exposed portion of the contactor comprises metal.

6. The electrical assembly of claim 1 , wherein the contactor includes a radially-extending flange in contact with a lip of a through aperture of the bracket.

7. The electrical assembly of claim 1 , including a flexible circuit electrically connected to the contactor and each of the one or more additional contactors.

8. The electrical assembly of claim 7 , wherein the flexible circuit is disposed substantially between the bracket and the cooling member.

9. The electrical assembly of claim 8 , wherein the flexible circuit includes a respective pair of integrated eyelets electrically connected to control terminals of the contactor and the one or more additional contactors.

10. The electrical assembly of claim 9 , wherein the contactor includes a first contactor terminal connected to the bus bar;

the contactor includes a second contactor terminal connected to a second bus bar that is connected to the bracket; and

the first contactor terminal, the second contactor terminal, and control terminals of the contactor extend from a first end of the contactor in substantially the same direction.

11. The electrical assembly of claim 1 , wherein the bracket comprises an electrically insulating material.

12. A method of assembling the electrical assembly of claim 1 , the method comprising:

providing the bracket, a bus bar assembly including the bus bar and the respective additional bus bars, and the one or more additional contactors;

inserting the contactor and the one or more additional contactors into the bracket;

connecting the bus bar assembly directly with terminals of the contactor and the one or more additional contactors;

connecting the bus bar assembly with the bracket;

disposing the cooling member on or about the bracket; and

connecting the cooling member with the bracket.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the cooling member and the terminals of the contactor are disposed at a first end of the contactor.

14. The method of claim 12 , including disposing a flexible circuit at least partially on and/or in the bracket prior to connecting the bus bar assembly with the contactor and/or the one or more additional contactors; and

electrically connecting the flexible circuit with the contactor and/or the one or more additional contactors;

wherein the bus bar assembly is connected with the contactor and/or the one or more additional contactors such that portions of the flexible circuit are disposed directly between the bus bar assembly and the bracket.

15. The method of claim 12 , wherein disposing the cooling member on the bracket includes inserting the bracket, a flexible circuit, the bus bar assembly, and the one or more additional contactors at least partially into a recess of the cooling member.

16. The method of claim 12 , wherein at least one additional contactor of the one or more additional contactors is inserted into the bracket such that an exposed portion of the contactor is not covered by a sleeve portion of the bracket.

17. The method of claim 12 , wherein the bus bar assembly is fixedly connected with the contactor by one or more first fasteners;

the bus bar assembly is fixedly connected with the bracket via one or more second fasteners; and

the cooling member is fixedly connected with the bracket via one or more third fasteners.

18. An electrical assembly, comprising:

a contactor;

a bus bar connected to the contactor;

a bracket connected to the bus bar;

a cooling member connected to the bracket such that the contactor is indirectly connected to the cooling member via the bus bar and the bracket and

one or more additional contactors;

wherein the bracket includes a sleeve; and the contactor is disposed in the sleeve; and

the bracket includes an additional sleeve for each of the one or more additional contactors.

19. The electrical assembly of claim 1 , including An electrical assembly, comprising:

a contactor;

a bus bar connected to the contactor;

a bracket connected to the bus bar;

a cooling member connected to the bracket such that the contactor is indirectly connected to the cooling member via the bus bar and the bracket and

a top cover covering a pair of control terminals of the contactor;

wherein the top cover includes an insulating wall disposed between contactor terminals of the contactor.

20. The electrical assembly of claim 19 , including one or more additional contactors connected to the bracket;

wherein the one or more additional contactors are connected to respective additional bus bars that are connected to the bracket such that the one or more additional contactors are indirectly connected to the cooling member via the respective additional bus bars and the bracket.
