Abstract

An example game controller is removably attachable to a main unit. The game controller includes a controller-side slide member. The controller-side slide member protrudes from a first surface of the game controller and is configured to slidably engage with the main unit-side slide member in a slide direction. The controller-side slide member has a first end and a second end in the slide direction, and the game controller is configured to be attached to the main unit by inserting the controller-side slide member into the main unit-side slide member. The controller-side slide member includes a protruding portion and at least one terminal. The protruding portion protrudes from the first end side of the controller-side slide member in the slide direction and has a facing surface that faces the first surface of the game controller. The at least one terminal is between the facing surface and the first surface.

the stop member is moved at least from the first position to the second position in response to the release button being operated by a user, and

the release button is on a reverse surface of the game controller.

3. The game controller according to claim 2 , wherein the release button protrudes from the reverse surface when not operated by a user, and is pressed down into the controller when operated by a user.

4. The game controller according to claim 2 , wherein the release button is located on an opposite side from the slide-direction side relative to a center of the controller-side slide member.

5. The game controller according to claim 2 , wherein

the game controller includes a protruding portion protruding from the reverse surface, and

the protruding portion protrudes more than the release button.

6. The game controller according to claim 5 , wherein a distance from the controller-side slide member to the release button is shorter than a distance from the controller-side slide member to the protruding portion.

7. The game controller according to claim 2 , wherein

the game controller includes an operation button on a second side surface adjacent to the first side surface, and

a distance from the controller-side slide member to the release button is shorter than a distance from the controller-side slide member to the operation button.

8. The game controller according to claim 1 , wherein

the controller side-slide member is attached to the main unit-side slide member in a slide direction that is a lower direction of the game controller,

the at least one terminal is on a lower side relative to the center of the controller-side slide member, and

the stop member is on an upper side relative to the center of the controller-side slide member.

9. A game system including the game controller and the main unit of claim 1 .

10. A game controller which is removably attachable to a main unit having a main unit-side slide member and configured to execute a game process, the main unit-side slide member including:

a bottom surface;

a first side surface extending from one side of the bottom surface;

a second side surface extending from the other side of the bottom surface;

a first surface extending from the first side surface and opposing the bottom surface; and

a second surface extending from the second side surface and opposing the bottom surface,

the first surface includes a plurality of portions arranged next to each other with spacing therebetween,

the second surface includes a plurality of portions arranged next to each other with spacing therebetween, the game controller comprising:

a controller-side slide member positioned on a side surface of the game controller and configured to slidably engage with the main unit-side slide member, the game controller being configured to be attached to the main unit by sliding the controller-side slide member relative to the main unit-side slide member in a slide direction, wherein

the controller-side slide member includes:

a shaft portion protruding from the side surface of the game controller; and

a top surface portion on one side of the shaft portion that is away from the side surface, the top surface portion being longer than the shaft portion for a direction perpendicular to the slide direction, and

the top surface portion includes a plurality of portions arranged next to each other in the slide direction with spacing therebetween.

11. The game controller according to claim 10 , wherein

at least one of the plurality of portions of the top surface portion is on a slide-direction side relative to a center of the game controller, and

at least another one of the plurality of portions of the top surface portion is on an opposite side from the slide-direction side relative to the center of the game controller.

12. A game system including the game controller and the main unit of claim 10 .

13. A game system including a game controller which is removably attachable to a main unit having a main unit-side slide member and configured to execute a game process,

the game controller comprising:

a controller-side slide member positioned on a first side surface of the game controller and configured to slidably engage with the main unit-side slide member, the game controller being configured to be attached to the main unit by sliding the controller-side slide member relative to the main unit-side slide member; and
