Abstract

Electrochromic windows powered by wireless power transmission and powering other devices by wireless power transmission are described along with wireless power transmission networks that incorporate these electrochromic windows.

Claims (27)

1. A spandrel glass for providing power to an electrochromic window in a building, the spandrel glass comprising:

a first layer including a first antenna array disposed on a first surface of a glass substrate;

a semi-transparent or non-transparent second layer including a first non transparent panel disposed adjacent to the first layer; wherein

the first antenna array has a wired interface with a first transmitter, and is configured to provide a wireless RF power linkage between the first transmitter and the electrochromic window; and

the spandrel glass is configured to be disposed on a façade of the building between rooms on a floor of the building or between floors of the building.

2. The spandrel glass of claim 1 , wherein the first antenna array is configured to wirelessly transmit power to the electrochromic window by way of a second receiver, the second receiver having a wired interface with the electrochromic window.

3. The spandrel glass of claim 1 , further comprising a photovoltaic layer for generating electrical power, the photovoltaic layer being electrically coupled with and providing power to the first transmitter.

4. The spandrel glass of claim 3 , wherein the photovoltaic layer is electrically coupled with, and configured to provide power to the first transmitter.

5. The spandrel glass of claim 3 , wherein the photovoltaic layer is disposed on the first surface of the glass substrate, proximate to our overlapping the first antenna array.

6. The spandrel glass of claim 3 , wherein the photovoltaic layer is disposed on a second surface of the glass substrate, opposite to the first surface.

7. The spandrel glass of claim 1 , wherein the first antenna array has a wired interface with a first receiver and is configured to wirelessly receive power from a second transmitter.

8. The spandrel glass of claim 7 wherein the first receiver has a wired interface with the electrochromic window and provides at least a portion of the wirelessly received power to the electrochromic window by way of the wired interface.

9. The spandrel glass of claim 1 further comprising a third layer including a second non-transparent panel disposed parallel to a second side of the first layer.

10. The spandrel glass of claim 9 , wherein the third layer is or includes a spandrel glass panel.

11. A system comprising

an electrochromic window of a building; and

a spandrel glass for providing power to the electrochromic window, the spandrel glass comprising:

a first layer including a first antenna array disposed on a first surface of a glass substrate;

a semi-transparent or non-transparent second layer disposed adjacent to the first layer; wherein

the first antenna array has a wired interface with a first transmitter, and is configured to provide a wireless RF power linkage between the first transmitter and the electrochromic window; and

the spandrel glass is configured to be disposed on a façade of the building between rooms on a floor of the building or

between floors of the building.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the first antenna array has a wired interface with the first transmitter and is configured to wirelessly transmit power to the electrochromic window.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the first antenna array is configured to wirelessly transmit power to the electrochromic window by way of a second receiver, the second receiver having a wired interface with the electrochromic window.

14. The system of claim 12 , further comprising a photovoltaic layer for generating electrical power, the photovoltaic layer being electrically coupled with and providing power to the first transmitter.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the first antenna array has a wired interface with a first receiver and is configured to wirelessly receive power from a second transmitter.

16. The system of claim 15 wherein the first receiver has a wired interface with the electrochromic window and provides at least a portion of the wirelessly received power to the electrochromic window by way of the wired interface.
