Abstract

The present disclosure provides a communication apparatus comprising a cryptographic circuitry which, in operation, uses a shared cryptographic secret Key and a cryptographic salt to generate a cryptographically encoded Message Integrity Code (MIC) that is computed over the address field of a Wake Up Radio (WUR) frame; and a transmission signal generator which, in operation, generates a secure WUR signal by replacing the address field of the WUR frame with the MIC; and a transmitter which, in operation, transmits the secure WUR signal.

Claims (19)

1. A station comprising:

a receiver which, in operation, receive, from an Access Point (AP), a Wake-Up Radio (WUR) frame containing a Message Integrity Code (MIC) that is computed, by the access point, using a temporal key and a part of AP Time Synchronization Function (TSF) timer, wherein the temporal key is a WUR group temporal key, and the AP uses the WUR group temporal key to compute the MIC for protecting the WUR frame which is a broadcast WUR frame or multicast WUR frame addressed to a group of stations; and

circuitry which, in operation, computes a local MIC using the temporal key and a station TSF timer, and if the computed local MIC matches the MIC of the WUR frame, the circuitry authenticates the WUR frame that wakes up the station, wherein the station TSF timer is a part of local TSF timer maintained by the station.

2. The station according to claim 1 , wherein the MIC is computed using a transmitter address of the AP.

3. The station according to claim 1 , wherein the MIC is computed using a hash function.

4. The station according to claim 1 , wherein the temporal key is a WUR temporal key, and the AP uses the WUR temporal key to compute the MIC for protecting the WUR frame which is an individually addressed WUR frame.

5. The station according to claim 1 , wherein the MIC is contained in a Frame Check Sequence (FCS) field of the WUR frame.

6. The station according to claim 1 , wherein the temporal key is indicated by a subfield of the WUR frame.

7. The station according to claim 1 , wherein the WUR frame wakes up the station.

8. A communication method for a station, the method comprising:

receiving, from an Access Point (AP), a Wake-Up Radio (WUR) frame containing Message Integrity Code (MIC) that is computed, by the access point, using a temporal key and a part of AP Time Synchronization Function (TSF) timer, wherein the temporal key is a WUR group temporal key, and the AP uses the WUR group temporal key to compute the MIC for protecting the WUR frame which is a broadcast WUR frame or multicast WUR frame addressed to a group of stations;

computing a local MIC using the temporal key and a station TSF timer, wherein the station TSF timer is a part of local TSF timer maintained by the station; and

if the computed local MIC matches the MIC of the WUR frame, authenticating the WUR frame that wakes up the station.

9. An integrated circuit for a station, the integrated circuit comprising:

an input, which, in operation, input a signal; and

control circuitry, which is coupled to the at input, and which controls:

receiving, from an Access Point (AP), a Wake-Up Radio (WUR) frame containing Message Integrity Code (MIC) that is computed, by the access point, using a temporal key and a part of AP Time Synchronization Function (TSF) timer, wherein the temporal key is a WUR group temporal key, and the AP uses the WUR group temporal key to compute the MIC for protecting the WUR frame which is a broadcast WUR frame or multicast WUR frame addressed to a group of stations;

computing a local MIC using the temporal key and a station TSF timer, wherein the station TSF timer is a part of local TSF timer maintained by the station; and

if the computed local MIC matches the MIC of the WUR frame, authenticating the WUR frame that wakes up the station.
