Abstract

The present disclosure relates to ophthalmic devices such as ophthalmic lenses. An ophthalmic device may comprise an ophthalmic lens for at least one of slowing, retarding or preventing myopia progression. The ophthalmic lens may comprise a center zone with a negative power for myopic vision correction; and at least one treatment zone surrounding the center zone, the at least one treatment zone having a power profile comprising an ADD power, the at least one treatment zone having a surface shape comprising a portion of a generally toroidal shape, wherein the at least one treatment zone is arranged as to form a continuous surface with the center zone.

Claims (14)

1. A method for improving vision degradation in a contact lens design to slow, retard or prevent myopia progression in a patient, comprising:

providing a contact lens having a myopia correction zone and an annular treatment zone each concentrically positioned around a central axis of said contact lens, said annular treatment zone surrounding said myopia correction zone;

wherein the myopia correction zone is configured to focus light passing therethrough onto said retina along said central axis; and

wherein the annular treatment zone has a surface shape comprising a portion of a toroid that focuses light passing therethrough in a continuous focal ring that surrounds the central axis the lens, wherein the focal ring is positioned in front of the retina; and

wherein vision degradation of said contact lens is improved as compared to a lens having a myopia correction zone and annular treatment zone that both focus light passing therethrough to focal points along said central axis.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the at least one treatment zone is arranged as to form a continuous surface with the myopia correction zone.

3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein said annular treatment zone has an ADD power relative to the myopia correction zone of greater than +5 diopters.

4. The method according to claim 2 , wherein said annular treatment zone has an ADD power relative to the myopia correction zone of greater than +7 diopters.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the myopia correction zone is positioned at the center of the lens.

6. The method according to claim 4 , wherein a diameter of the myopia correction zone is about 3 mm to about 7 mm.

7. The method according to claim 2 , wherein the contact lens further comprises a central treatment zone, wherein the central treatment zone is positioned at a center of said contact lens, the myopia correction zone surrounds said central treatment zone, and the annular treatment zone surrounds the myopia correction zone, and wherein the central treatment zone is configured to focus light passing therethrough in front of the retina at a point along the central axis.

8. The method according to claim 7 , wherein the central treatment zone has an ADD power of approximately +10 diopters relative to the myopia correction zone.

9. The method according to claim 8 , wherein said annular treatment zone has an ADD power relative to the myopia correction zone of greater than +5 diopters.

10. The method according to claim 8 , wherein said annular treatment zone has an ADD power relative to the myopia correction zone of greater than +7 diopters.
