Abstract

An apparatus includes a module. The module includes a radio frequency (RF) circuit to transmit or receive RF signals, and a loop antenna to transmit or receive the RF signals. The module further comprises an impedance matching circuit coupled to the RF circuit and to the loop antenna. The impedance matching circuit comprises lumped reactive components.

Claims (35)

1. An apparatus, comprising:

a module, comprising:

a radio frequency (RF) circuit to transmit or receive RF signals;

a loop antenna to transmit or receive the RF signals;

a tuning loop coupled to the loop antenna; and

an impedance matching circuit coupled to the RF circuit and to the loop antenna, wherein the impedance matching circuit comprises lumped reactive components.

2. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein impedance matching circuit comprises a first reactive network coupled to a second reactive network.

3. The apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the first reactive network comprises an inductor.

4. The apparatus according to claim 2 , wherein the second reactive network comprises six capacitors coupled in series.

5. The apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the loop antenna comprises a conductive loop of a substrate of the module.

6. The apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein a side of the conductive loop is disposed along an edge of the substrate of the module.

7. The apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a substrate, wherein the module is attached to the substrate along an edge of the substrate, and wherein the edge of the substrate radiates RF energy.

8. An apparatus, comprising:

a module, comprising:

a radio frequency (RF) circuit to transmit or receive RF signals;

a tuning loop;

a loop antenna to transmit or receive the RF signals; and

an impedance matching circuit coupled to the RF circuit, the tuning loop, and the loop antenna, wherein the impedance matching circuit comprises lumped reactive components.

9. The apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein impedance matching circuit comprises a first reactive network coupled to a second reactive network and to a third reactive network.

10. The apparatus according to claim 9 , wherein the first reactive network comprises an inductor coupled to a capacitor, the second reactive network comprises six capacitors coupled in series, and the third reactive network comprises a capacitor.

11. The apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the module comprises a substrate, and wherein the tuning loop comprises a first conductive loop of the substrate of the module.

12. The apparatus according to claim 11 , wherein the loop antenna comprises a second conductive loop of the substrate of the module.

13. The apparatus according to claim 12 , wherein a side of the second conductive loop is disposed along an edge of the substrate of the module.

14. The apparatus according to claim 8 , further comprising a substrate, wherein the module is attached to the substrate along an edge of the substrate, and wherein the edge of the substrate radiates RF energy.

15. An apparatus, comprising:

a substrate; and

a module attached to the substrate along an edge of the substrate, the module comprising:

a radio frequency (RF) circuit to transmit or receive RF signals;

a loop antenna to transmit or receive the RF signals, the loop antenna coupled to a tuning loop; and

an impedance matching circuit coupled to the RF circuit and to the loop antenna, wherein the impedance matching circuit comprises lumped reactive components.

16. The apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein the impedance matching circuit comprises a first reactive network coupled to a second reactive network.

17. The apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein the tuning loop is coupled to the RF circuit.

18. The apparatus according to claim 17 , wherein the impedance matching circuit comprises a first reactive network coupled to a second reactive network and to a third reactive network.

19. The apparatus according to claim 17 , wherein the module further comprises a substrate, and wherein the loop antenna comprises a first conductive loop of the substrate of the module.

20. The apparatus according to claim 19 , wherein the tuning loop comprises a second conductive loop of the substrate of the module.
