Abstract

Devices and techniques for efficient obfuscated logical-to-physical mapping are described herein. For example, activity corresponding to obfuscated regions of an L2P map for a memory device can be tracked. A record of discontinuity between the obfuscated regions and L2P mappings resulting from the activity can be updated. The obfuscated regions can be ordered based on a level of discontinuity from the record of discontinuity. When an idle period is identified, an obfuscated region from the obfuscated regions is selected and refreshed based on the ordering.

Claims (35)

1. An apparatus comprising:

a storage array comprising NAND flash cells;

a host interface that conforms to a Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) Universal Flash Storage (UFS) family of standards; and

a controller including processing circuitry that is configured to:

track deviations between logical-to-physical (L2P) table regions and corresponding obfuscated regions to produce an order of the L2P table regions based on the deviations, the L2P table regions and the obfuscated regions providing a mapping between a logical representation and a physical representation of the storage array, a deviation of the deviations occurring based on a command received from the host from the host interface; and

reproduce an obfuscated region from an L2P table region based on:

the order of the L2P table regions; and

an idle period.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein, to track deviations between the L2P table regions and corresponding obfuscated regions, the processing circuitry is configured to update a record of discontinuity based on activity corresponding to the obfuscated regions.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the record of discontinuity includes a count of deviations between current L2P mappings and L2P mappings represented by the obfuscated regions.

4. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the record of discontinuity is a map in which a cell corresponds to a portion of an obfuscated region and a value in the cell indicates whether the portion has changed.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the portion corresponds to a sub-region, and wherein the map corresponds to the obfuscated region.

6. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the portion is smaller than a sub-region, and wherein the map corresponds to the sub-region.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the portion is four kilobits.

8. A method comprising:

tracking, by processing circuitry of an apparatus, deviations between a logical-to-physical (L2P) table regions and corresponding obfuscated regions to produce an order of the L2P table regions based on the deviations, the apparatus including a storage array of NAND flash cells and a host interface that conforms to a Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) Universal Flash Storage (UFS) family of standards, the L2P table regions and the obfuscated regions providing a mapping between a logical representation and a physical representation of the storage array, a deviation of the deviations occurring based on a command received from the host from the host interface; and

reproducing an obfuscated region from an L2P table region based on:

the order of the L2P table regions; and

an idle period.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein, tracking deviations between the L2P table regions and corresponding obfuscated regions includes updating a record of discontinuity based on activity corresponding to the obfuscated regions.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the record of discontinuity includes a count of deviations between current L2P mappings and L2P mappings represented by the obfuscated regions.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the record of discontinuity is a map in which a cell corresponds to a portion of an obfuscated region and a value in the cell indicates whether the portion has changed.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the portion corresponds to a sub-region, and wherein the map corresponds to the obfuscated region.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the portion is smaller than a sub-region, and wherein the map corresponds to the sub-region.

14. A non-transitory machine readable medium including instructions that, when executed by processing circuitry, cause the processing circuitry to perform operations comprising:

tracking deviations between a logical-to-physical (L2P) table regions and corresponding obfuscated regions to produce an order of the L2P table regions based on the deviations, the processing circuitry being part of an apparatus that includes a storage array of NAND flash cells and a host interface that conforms to a Joint Electron Device Engineering Council (JEDEC) Universal Flash Storage (UFS) family of standards, the L2P table regions and the obfuscated regions providing a mapping between a logical representation and a physical representation of the storage array, a deviation of the deviations occurring based on a command received from the host from the host interface; and

reproducing an obfuscated region from an L2P table region based on:

the order of the L2P table regions; and

an idle period.

15. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 14 , wherein, tracking deviations between the L2P table regions and corresponding obfuscated regions includes updating a record of discontinuity based on activity corresponding to the obfuscated regions.

16. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the record of discontinuity includes a count of deviations between current L2P mappings and L2P mappings represented by the obfuscated regions.

17. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 15 , wherein the record of discontinuity is a map in which a cell corresponds to a portion of an obfuscated region and a value in the cell indicates whether the portion has changed.

18. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the portion corresponds to a sub-region, and wherein the map corresponds to the obfuscated region.

19. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the portion is smaller than a sub-region, and wherein the map corresponds to the sub-region.

20. The non-transitory machine readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the portion is four kilobits.
