Abstract

The present invention comprises systems, methods and devices for the delivery of compositions for occluding or of means for opening conduits. The implantable occlusive material may be delivered pre-formed or in situ cured and, may be a resorbable material that supports tissue ingrowth that eventually replaces the material leaving little or no original material in place. The delivery system is positioned to allow for placement of the occlusive material into the body conduit. Use of delivery systems, methods and devices for re-opening an occluded body conduit are also included.

Claims (33)

1. A method for delivering a composition to at least one fallopian tube in a mammal, comprising,

a) positioning at the cornua of one fallopian tube of a mammal, an end structure of a catheter so that a delivery end of the catheter is located within the uterine cornua and is at or near a tubal ostium, wherein the end structure maintains the delivery end in the uterine cornua and aids in localized delivery of the composition;

b) delivering an effective amount of the composition through and out the delivery end of the catheter so that at least a portion of the composition is delivered to the fallopian tube;

wherein the composition occludes the fallopian tube for a time period afterwhich the composition is resorbed or degraded, and the fallopian tube remains occluded.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the end structure comprises a nozzle, balloon, or a cup.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising,

c) withdrawing the catheter.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, imaging with sonography the uterus, the fallopian tube or both, before the step a).

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, imaging with sonography the uterus, the fallopian tube or both, after step a) or after step b).

6. The method of claim 3 , further comprising imaging with sonography the uterus, the fallopian tube or both, before step a); after step b); or after step c).

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the composition comprises natural materials from animals or plants.

8. A method for delivering a composition to two fallopian tubes in a mammal, comprising,

a) positioning at the cornua of a first fallopian tube of a mammal, an end structure of a catheter so that a delivery end of the catheter is located within the uterine cornua and is at or near a tubal ostium, wherein the end structure maintains the delivery end in the uterine cornua and aids in localized delivery of a composition;

b) delivering an effective amount of the composition through and out the delivery end of the catheter so that at least a portion of the composition is delivered to the first fallopian tube;

c) positioning at the cornua of a second fallopian tube of a mammal, the end structure of the catheter so that a delivery end of the catheter is located within the uterine cornua and is at or near a tubal ostium, wherein the end structure maintains the delivery end in the uterine cornua and aids in localized delivery of a composition; and

d) delivering an effective amount of the composition through and out the delivery end of the catheter, so that at least a portion of the composition is delivered to each fallopian tube.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein the end structure comprises a nozzle, balloon, or a cup.

10. The method of claim 7 , further comprising,

e) withdrawing the catheter.

11. The method of claim 7 , further comprising, imaging with sonography the uterus, at least one fallopian tube, or both, before the step a).

12. The method of claim 9 , further comprising, imaging with sonography the uterus, at least one fallopian tube, or both, before step a), after step b), after step c) after step d), or after one or more of steps a) to d).

13. The method of claim 10 , wherein steps a) and c) are performed concurrently.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein steps b) and d) are performed concurrently.

15. The method of claim 10 , wherein the composition comprises natural materials from animals or plants.

16. A method for delivering a composition to two fallopian tubes in a mammal, comprising,

a) providing a delivery system comprising two catheters, each comprising an end structure;

b positioning at each cornua of two fallopian tubes of a mammal, the end structure of one catheter of the delivery system so that a delivery end of the catheter is located within the uterine cornua and is at or near a tubal ostium, wherein the end structure maintains the delivery end in the uterine cornua and aids in localized delivery of a composition;

c) delivering an effective amount of the composition through and out the delivery end of each catheter so that at least a portion of the fluid composition is delivered to the fallopian tubes.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the end structure comprises a nozzle, balloon, or a cup.

18. The method of claim 16 , further comprising,

d) withdrawing the at least one catheter.

19. The method of claim 16 , further comprising, imaging with sonography the uterus, the fallopian tube or both, before the step a), step b), step c), before one or more of the steps.

20. The method of claim 16 , wherein the composition comprises natural materials from animals or plants.
