Abstract

The present invention relates to methods of modulating dermal and sub-dermal properties of a subject. The present invention relates to methods comprising administering to a subject a spore-based probiotic composition.

Claims (22)

1. A spore-based probiotic composition comprising strains Bacillus indicus (HU36), Bacillus subtilis (HU58), Bacillus coagulans (SC-208), and Bacillus clausii (SC-109), each strain comprising Bacillus spores.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said composition is a dietary supplement.

3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said spores are microencapsulated.

4. The composition of claim 1 , further comprising endosomes.

5. A method of modulating dermal and sub-dermal properties of a human subject in need thereof, comprising the steps of:

a. identifying the human subject in need of dermal or sub-dermal modulation;

b. administering to the human subject an effective amount of the spore-based probiotic composition of claim 1 .

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein one or more of acetate, propionate, or butyrate is increased in the human gastro-intestinal tract.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the ratio of acetate to propionate or butyrate is substantially increased in the human gastro-intestinal tract.

8. The method of claim 5 , wherein the spore-based probiotic composition is administered in a daily dose of about 1×10 8 to about 1×10 12 Bacillus spores (CFUs).

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the spore-based probiotic composition is administered in a daily dose of about 4×10 9 Bacillus spores (CFUs).

The method of claim 5 , wherein said modulated properties are one or more of increased skin hydration, reduced wrinkly appearance, reduced sebum content, reduced skin inflammation, improved lipidome on the skin, improved skin microbiota, and reduced appearance and/or frequency of acne lesions or rosacea.

11. The method of claim 5 , wherein said administering step is by oral administration.

12. A method of reducing the appearance and/or frequency of acne lesions of a human subject in need thereof, comprising the steps of:

a. identifying the human subject in need of dermal or sub-dermal modulation;

b. administering to the human subject an effective amount of the spore-based probiotic composition of claim 1 .

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein one or more of acetate, propionate, or butyrate is increased in the human gastro-intestinal tract.

14. The method of claim 13 , wherein the ratio of acetate to propionate or butyrate is substantially increased in the human gastro-intestinal tract.

15. The method of claim 12 , wherein the spore-based probiotic composition is administered in a daily dose of about 1×10 8 to about 1×10 12 Bacillus spores (CFUs).

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the spore-based probiotic composition is administered in a daily dose of about 4×10 9 Bacillus spores (CFUs).

The method of claim 12 , wherein said appearance and/or frequency of acne lesions are one or more of increased skin hydration, reduced wrinkly appearance, reduced sebum content, reduced skin inflammation, improved lipidome on the skin, improved skin microbiota, and reduced appearance and/or frequency of acne lesions.

18. The method of claim 12 , wherein said administering step is by oral administration.
