Abstract

Systems and methods are presented herein for enabling a vehicle, configured to support autonomous vehicle operation, to change a location of the vehicle based on the detection of an impending impact with the vehicle. A starting location of the vehicle is determined while the vehicle is parked, unoccupied, and comprises an inactive powertrain. In response to determining a watchdog state is enabled, data corresponding to the location is accessed from within a threshold distance of the vehicle. An identifier and a trajectory of an object is determined. In response to determining that the trajectory corresponds to an impact path with the vehicle, an evasive route for the vehicle is determined that terminates at a safe location not subjected to the impending impact. An instruction to activate the vehicle powertrain and an autonomous mode of the vehicle to execute the identified evasive route is transmitted for the vehicle to process.

the method further comprises:

determining a second trajectory of the at least one object based on the retrieved movement patterns of the objects similar to the at least one object; and

generating a predicted trajectory based on the first trajectory and the second trajectory,

wherein the probability score is generated by comparing the predicted trajectory to the impact path.

11. A vehicle system comprising:

control circuitry;

computer memory; and

an input/output circuitry communicably coupled to the control circuitry, the control circuitry being configured to execute computer readable instructions stored in the computer memory;

wherein the control circuitry is configured to:

determine a location of a vehicle that is parked, unoccupied, and comprises an inactive powertrain;

retrieve, from the computer memory, movement patterns of objects similar to the at least one object based on the identifier of the at least one object;

determine whether the trajectory corresponds to an impact path with the vehicle by:

performing a statistical analysis regarding a probability that the at least one object will maintain a trajectory corresponding to the impact path by generating a probability score; and

comparing the probability score to a threshold;

in response to determining that the trajectory corresponds to the impact path with the vehicle based on determining that the probability score meets or exceeds the threshold, identify an evasive route for the vehicle and a safe location to terminate the evasive route; and

generate an instruction to activate the vehicle powertrain and an autonomous mode of the vehicle to execute the identified evasive route so the vehicle ends up in the safe location.
