Abstract

An image heating apparatus includes an image heating portion including a heater, a tubular film having an inner surface in contact with the heater, and a pressure member that is in contact with the outer surface of the film and forms a nip portion for conveying a recording material between the outer surface and the pressure member. The image heating portion heats an unfixed toner image on the recording material by the heater. A temperature detection portion detects the temperature of the heater. A control portion controls electric power to the heater such that the temperature detected by the temperature detection portion is maintained at a predetermined control target temperature. An obtainment portion obtains image information for forming the unfixed toner image. The control target temperature is set, based on the image information, for each of a plurality of regions defined by dividing the recording material in the conveying direction.

Claims (47)

1. An image forming apparatus comprising:

an image forming portion configured to form a toner image on a recording material;

an image fixing portion including:

a tubular film;

a heater disposed in an inner space of the tubular film; and

a rotational pressure member contacting an outer surface of the tubular film to provide a nip portion for conveying the recording material between the outer surface and the rotational pressure member in cooperation with the heater,

wherein the image fixing portion is configured to heat the toner image formed on the recording material using heat of the heater;

a temperature detection portion configured to detect a temperature of the heater;

an obtainment portion configured to obtain image information for forming the toner image;

a control portion configured to control electric power supplied to the heater to maintain the temperature detected by the temperature detection portion at a predetermined control target temperature; and

wherein the control portion sets the predetermined control target temperature based on the image information, for each of a plurality of regions with a predetermined length in the recording material with respect to a conveying direction of the recording material, the predetermined length being a circumferential length of one of the tubular film or the pressure member, wherein:

the predetermined control target temperature is set to decrease as the number of prints increase; and

the predetermined control target temperature is set to increase from a leading edge of the recording material to a trailing edge of the recording material in the conveying direction.

2. An image forming apparatus for forming a toner image on a recording material, the image forming apparatus comprising:

an image forming portion configured to form the toner image on the recording material;

a fixing portion configured to fix the toner image on the recording material, and including:

a tubular film;

a heater disposed in an inner space of the tubular film;

a roller contacting an outer surface of the tubular film to provide a nip portion where the recording material is nipped and conveyed in cooperation with the heater through the tubular film; and

a temperature detection portion configured to detect a temperature of the heater;

a control portion configured to control electric power supplied to the heater to maintain the temperature detected by the temperature detection portion at a control target temperature,

wherein the control portion sets the control target temperature for each of a plurality of regions with a predetermined length in the recording material with respect to a conveying direction of the recording material, the predetermined length being a circumferential length of one of the tubular film or the roller, wherein:

the control target temperature is set to decrease as the number of prints increase; and

the control target temperature is set to increase from a leading edge of the recording material to a trailing edge of the recording material in the conveying direction.

3. An image forming apparatus for forming a toner image formed on a recording material, the image forming apparatus comprising:

an image forming portion configured to form the toner image on the recording material;

a fixing portion configured to fix the toner image on the recording material, and including:

a tubular film;

a heater disposed in an inner space of the tubular film, and including:

a substrate;

a first heating block provided on the substrate; and

a second heating block provided at a different position on the substrate in a longitudinal direction of the substrate;

a roller contacting an outer surface of the tubular film to provide a nip portion where the recording material is nipped and conveyed in cooperation with the heater through the tubular film;

a first temperature detecting element configured to detect a temperature of an area heated by the first heating block; and

a second temperature detecting element configured to detect a temperature of an area heated by the second heating block; and

a control portion configured to control electric power supplied to:

the first heating block to maintain a temperature detected by the first temperature detecting element at a control target temperature; and

the second heating block to maintain a temperature detected by the second temperature detecting element at a control target temperature,

wherein the control portion sets the control target temperature for the first heating block and the control target temperature for the second heating block for each of a plurality of regions with a predetermined length in the recording material with respect to a conveying direction of the recording material, the predetermined length being a circumferential length of one of the tubular film or the roller.

4. The image forming apparatus according to claim 3 , wherein the control portion sets:

the control target temperature for the first heating block and the control target temperature for the second heating block to decrease as the number of prints increase; and

the control target temperature for the first heating block and the control target temperature for the second heating block to increase from a top of the recording material to a rear end of the recording material in the conveying direction.

5. The image forming apparatus according to claim 4 , further comprising:

an obtainment portion configured to obtain image information of the toner image,

wherein the control portion sets the control target temperature for the first heating block and the control target temperature for the second heating block based on the image information.

6. The image forming apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the image information is an information relating to a toner amount of the toner image.

7. The image forming apparatus according to claim 5 , wherein the control portion sets the control target temperature for the first heating block and the control target temperature for the second heating block based on the image information and a size information of the recording material.
