Abstract

An electronic device, for each media content item of a plurality of media content items, receives a respective score for each a first set of objectives and one or more other objectives and generates a respective score between a user and the media content item. The generating includes applying a first ordered weighted average to the respective scores for the first set of objectives, to produce a first combined score for the first set of objectives, applying a second ordered weighted average to the respective scores for a second set of objectives, wherein the second set of objectives includes (i) a resulting objective corresponding to the first set of objectives and having the first combined score and (ii) the one or more other objectives. The electronic device streams media content to the user selected based on the respective scores between the user and the media content items.

Claims (50)

1. A method, comprising:

at an electronic device associated with a media-providing service that includes one or more processors and memory storing one or more programs storing instructions executable by the electronic device:

for each media content item of a plurality of media content items:

receiving a respective score for each of a first set of objectives and one or more other objectives;

generating a respective score between a user and the media content item, comprising:

applying a first ordered weighted average to the respective scores for the first set of objectives, to produce a first combined score for the first set of objectives; and

applying a second ordered weighted average to the respective scores for a second set of objectives, wherein the second set of objectives includes (i) a resulting objective corresponding to the first set of objectives and having the first combined score and (ii) the one or more other objectives;

selecting, without user input, media content based on the respective scores between the user and the media content items in the plurality of media content items; and

streaming, using an application of the media-providing service, one or more of the selected media content to the user.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein:

applying the first ordered weighted average comprises using a first parameter to determine weights applied to the respective scores of the first set of objectives; and

applying the second ordered weighted average comprises using a second parameter, having a different value than the first parameter, to determine weights applied to the respective scores of the second set of objectives.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first set of objectives includes at least one predicted objective and at least one measured objective.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the at least one predicted objective is determined using a machine learning algorithm.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein selecting the media content based on the respective scores comprises selecting a first media content item based on the first media content item having a respective score that satisfies a first threshold.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising, determining an order of the one or more of the selected media content to stream to the user.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein applying a respective ordered weighted average for a respective set of objectives comprises determining, in real time, weights for each objective in the respective set of objectives.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the one or more other objectives have a third combined score produced by applying a third ordered weighted average to respective scores for a third set of objectives.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein applying the second ordered weighted average comprises applying the second ordered weighted average to the first combined score for the first set of objectives, the third combined score for the one or more other objectives, and one or more other objectives.

10. An electronic device associated with a media-providing service, comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing one or more programs storing instructions executable by the one or more processors for:

for each media content item of a plurality of media content items:

receiving a respective score for each of a first set of objectives and one or more other objectives;

generating a respective score between a user and the media content item, comprising:

applying a first ordered weighted average to the respective scores for the first set of objectives, to produce a first combined score for the first set of objectives; and

applying a second ordered weighted average to the respective scores for a second set of objectives, wherein the second set of objectives includes (i) a resulting objective corresponding to the first set of objectives and having the first combined score and (ii) the one or more other objectives;

selecting, without user input, media content based on the respective scores between the user and the media content items in the plurality of media content items; and

streaming, using an application of the media-providing service, one or more of the selected media content to the user.

11. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein:

applying the first ordered weighted average comprises using a first parameter to determine weights applied to the respective scores of the first set of objectives; and

applying the second ordered weighted average comprises using a second parameter, having a different value than the first parameter, to determine weights applied to the respective scores of the second set of objectives.

12. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the first set of objectives includes at least one predicted objective and at least one measured objective.

13. The electronic device of claim 12 , wherein the at least one predicted objective is determined using a machine learning algorithm.

14. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein selecting the media content based on the respective scores comprises selecting a first media content item based on the first media content item having a respective score that satisfies a first threshold.

15. The electronic device of claim 10 , the instructions further including instructions for, determining an order of the one or more of the selected media content to stream to the user.

16. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein applying a respective ordered weighted average for a respective set of objectives comprises determining, in real time, weights for each objective in the respective set of objectives.

17. The electronic device of claim 10 , wherein the one or more other objectives have a third combined score produced by applying a third ordered weighted average to respective scores for a third set of objectives.

18. The electronic device of claim 17 , wherein applying the second ordered weighted average comprises applying the second ordered weighted average to the first combined score for the first set of objectives, the third combined score for the one or more other objectives, and one or more other objectives.

19. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium storing one or more programs configured for execution by one or more processors of a computer system associated with a media-providing service, the one or more programs comprising instructions for:

for each media content item of a plurality of media content items:

receiving a respective score for each of a first set of objectives and one or more other objectives;

generating a respective score between a user and the media content item, comprising:

applying a first ordered weighted average to the respective scores for the first set of objectives, to produce a first combined score for the first set of objectives; and

applying a second ordered weighted average to the respective scores for a second set of objectives, wherein the second set of objectives includes (i) a resulting objective corresponding to the first set of objectives and having the first combined score and (ii) the one or more other objectives;

selecting, without user input, media content based on the respective scores between the user and the media content items in the plurality of media content items; and

streaming, using an application of the media-providing service, one or more of the selected media content to the user.

20. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 19 , wherein:

applying the first ordered weighted average comprises using a first parameter to determine weights applied to the respective scores of the first set of objectives; and

applying the second ordered weighted average comprises using a second parameter, having a different value than the first parameter, to determine weights applied to the respective scores of the second set of objectives.
