Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a pre-5 th -generation (5G) or 5G communication system to be provided for supporting higher data rates beyond 4 th -generation (4G) communication system such as long term evolution (LTE). Disclosed is an apparatus of a base station (BS). The BS may be configured to determine whether to use a beam of the BS and a beam of a terminal, which have been used in a downlink, in an uplink based on capability information received from the terminal and whether an antenna of the BS used for communication with the terminal is a transmission/reception common antenna and perform an uplink beam search when it is determined that the beam of the BS or the beam of the terminal is not used in the uplink.

Claims (42)

1. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

transmitting, to a base station, capability information including information indicating whether a selection of an uplink transmission beam of the UE without an uplink beam sweeping is available in the UE or not;

receiving, from the base station, configuration information for a sounding reference signal (SRS); and

transmitting, to the base station, one or more SRSs using one or more uplink transmission beams of the UE based on the configuration information,

wherein, in case that the selection of the uplink transmission beam of the UE without the uplink beam sweeping is unavailable, the capability information is associated with a number of SRSs for an uplink beam search in the configuration information.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the configuration information is received via a higher layer signaling.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, from the base station, feedback information for indicating the uplink transmission beam of the one or more uplink transmission beams on the UE.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein, in case that the selection of the uplink transmission beam of the UE without the uplink beam sweeping is available, the uplink transmission beam is selected based on downlink measurements.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein each of the SRSs for the uplink beam search corresponds to one corresponding antenna.

6. A method performed by a base station in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving, from a user equipment (UE), capability information including information indicating whether a selection of an uplink transmission beam of the UE without an uplink beam sweeping is available in the UE or not;

transmitting, to the UE, configuration information for a sounding reference signal (SRS); and

receiving, from the UE, one or more SRSs using one or more uplink transmission beams of the UE based on the configuration information,

wherein, in case that the selection of the uplink transmission beam of the UE without the uplink beam sweeping is unavailable, the capability information is associated with a number of SRSs for an uplink beam search in the configuration information.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the configuration information is received via a higher layer signaling.

8. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

transmitting, to the UE, feedback information for indicating the uplink transmission beam of the one or more uplink transmission beams on the UE.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein, in case that the selection of the uplink transmission beam of the UE without the uplink beam sweeping is available, the uplink transmission beam is selected based on downlink measurements.

10. The method of claim 6 , wherein each of the SRSs for the uplink beam search corresponds to one corresponding antenna.

11. A user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system, the UE comprising:

at least one transceiver; and

at least one processor configured to:

transmit, to a base station via the at least one transceiver, capability information including information indicating whether a selection of an uplink transmission beam of the UE without an uplink beam sweeping is available in the UE or not;

receive, from the base station via the at least one transceiver, configuration information for a sounding reference signal (SRS); and

transmit, to the base station via the at least one transceiver, one or more SRSs using one or more uplink transmission beams of the UE based on the configuration information,

wherein, in case that the selection of the uplink transmission beam of the UE without the uplink beam sweeping is unavailable, the capability information is associated with a number of SRSs for an uplink beam search in the configuration information.

12. The UE of claim 11 , wherein the configuration information is received via a higher layer signaling.

13. The UE of claim 11 , wherein the at least one processor is configured to receive, from the base station via the at least one transceiver, feedback information for indicating the uplink transmission beam of the one or more uplink transmission beams on the UE.

14. The UE of claim 11 , wherein, in case that the selection of the uplink transmission beam of the UE without the uplink beam sweeping is available, the uplink transmission beam is selected based on downlink measurements.

15. The UE of claim 11 , wherein each of the SRSs for the uplink beam search corresponds to one corresponding antenna.

16. A base station in a wireless communication system, the base station comprising:

at least one transceiver; and

at least one processor configured to:

receive, from a user equipment (UE) via the at least one transceiver, capability information including information indicating whether a selection of an uplink transmission beam of the UE without an uplink beam sweeping is available in the UE or not;

transmit, to the UE via the at least one transceiver, configuration information for a sounding reference signal (SRS); and

receive, from the UE via the at least one transceiver, one or more SRSs using one or more uplink transmission beams of the UE based on the configuration information,

wherein, in case that the selection of the uplink transmission beam of the UE without the uplink beam sweeping is unavailable, the capability information is associated with a number of SRSs for an uplink beam search in the configuration information.

17. The base station of claim 16 , wherein the configuration information is received via a higher layer signaling.

18. The base station of claim 16 , wherein the at least one processor is further configured to transmit, to the UE via the at least one transceiver, feedback information for indicating the uplink transmission beam of the one or more uplink transmission beams on the UE.

19. The base station of claim 16 , wherein, in case that the selection of the uplink transmission beam of the UE without the uplink beam sweeping is available, the uplink transmission beam is selected based on downlink measurements.
