Abstract

Improved methods and systems for personal medical monitoring are disclosed. The monitoring yields status information pertaining to persons being monitored. Notifications, recommendations and/or actions can be initiated by examination or analysis of the status information. The status information can include health, position (location) and other information.

Claims (47)

1. A health monitoring system, said health monitoring system configured to be accessible to at least one medical monitoring device, the medical monitoring device being configured to be carried or worn by a person to be monitored, the medical monitoring device being configured to obtain sensor data and health condition information pertaining to the person, said health monitoring system comprising:

a movement sensor operatively connected to or within the medical monitoring device to acquire the sensor data pertaining to the person;

a health sensor operatively connected to or within the medical monitoring device to acquire the health condition information pertaining to the person; and

a health monitor operatively connected to or within the medical monitoring device, the health monitor configured to receive and store the sensor data and the health condition information, and the health monitor configured to determine activity of the person based on at least a portion of the sensor data and location information pertaining to the person,

wherein the health monitor is configured to determine whether one or more electronic notifications are to be sent to at least one recipient based on at least a portion of the health condition information pertaining to the person, based on the activity of the person, and based on criteria for when the one or more electronic notifications are to be sent,

wherein the health monitor is configured to initiate sending of the one or more electronic notifications to the at least one recipient when the health monitor determines that the one or more electronic notifications are to be sent to at least one recipient based on at least a portion of the health condition information received, based on the activity of the person, and based on criteria for when the one or more electronic notifications are to be sent, and

wherein the health monitor is configured to provide a graphical user interface that is accessed by the at least one recipient to at least control whether the one or more electronic notifications are to be sent to the at least one recipient or configure the criteria for when the one or more electronic notifications are to be sent to the at least one recipient.

2. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the sensor data acquired by the movement sensor includes acceleration data.

3. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the graphical user interface that is accessed by the at least one recipient permits the at least one recipient to configure information as to whether the one or more electronic notifications for the at least one recipient are to be sent.

4. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the one or more notifications are electronic text messages.

5. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the one or more electronic notifications include one or more electronic audio and/or graphical messages.

6. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the medical monitoring device comprises:

a wireless communication component configured to communicate over one or more networks; and

a GPS component configured to acquire location information corresponding thereto.

7. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 6 , wherein the wireless communication component, the movement sensor, the GPS component and the health sensor are integrated into a single package.

8. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 6 ,

wherein the wireless communication component is provided in a first apparatus,

wherein the GPS component and/or the health sensor as provided in a second apparatus, and

wherein the second apparatus is configured to communicate with the wireless communication component through a wireless local network.

9. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 ,

wherein the medical monitoring device includes a capability to provide guidance to the person carrying or wearing the medical monitoring device, and

wherein the health monitor is configured to determine when to provide guidance to the person carrying or wearing the medical monitoring device based on at least a portion of the health condition information received from the medical monitoring device and based on criteria for when guidance is to be provided.

10. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 ,

wherein the movement sensor is at least partially within the medical monitoring device,

wherein the health sensor is at least partially within the medical monitoring device,

wherein the health monitor is at least partially within the medical monitoring device,

wherein the medical monitoring device is a personal electronic device that is worn by the person,

wherein the activity of the person distinguishes a level of activity of the person,

wherein the determining by the health monitor whether the one or more electronic notifications are to be sent is dependent on the level of activity of the person, and

wherein the at least one recipient includes at least the person.

11. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the at least one recipient includes at least the person.

12. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the health sensor is at least partially within the medical monitoring device.

13. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the medical monitoring device is a personal electronic device that is worn by the person.

14. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the activity of the person distinguishes whether the person is inactive or active.

15. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the activity of the person being determined distinguishes whether the person is exercising or substantially inactive.

16. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the activity of the person being determined pertains to at least walking or running, which indicate that the person is active in a particular manner.

17. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the activity of the person being determined pertains to sleeping, which indicates that the person is not presently active.

18. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 , wherein the activity of the person being determined pertains to exercising, which indicates that the person is presently active.

19. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 1 ,

wherein the movement sensor is at least partially within the medical monitoring device,

wherein the health sensor is at least partially within the medical monitoring device,

wherein the medical monitoring device is a personal electronic device that is worn by the person,

wherein the activity of the person distinguishes whether the person is inactive or active, and

wherein the determining by the health monitor whether the one or more electronic notifications are to be sent is dependent on whether the person is inactive or active.

20. The health monitoring system as recited in claim 19 ,

wherein the health monitor is at least partially within the medical monitoring device, and

wherein the at least one recipient includes at least the person.
