Abstract

Systems and methods are disclosed for audio group identification for conferencing. For example, methods may include joining a conference call using a network interface; accessing an audio signal that has been captured using a microphone; detecting a control signal in the audio signal; and, responsive to detection of the control signal, invoking modification of an audio path of the conference call.

Claims (59)

1. A method comprising:

joining, by a first computing device, a conference call;

detecting, by a microphone of the first computing device, an absence of an audio signal that includes a control signal;

emitting, by a speaker of the first computing device, an audio signal that includes a control signal associated with the first computing device and indicating that the first computing device is a primary device of an audio environment associated with the conference call;

joining, by a second computing device, the conference call;

detecting, by a microphone of the second computing device, the audio signal that includes the control signal associated with the first computing device;

determining, based at least in part on the control signal associated with the first computing device, that the second computing device shares the audio environment with the primary device; and

based at least in part on determining that the second computing device shares the audio environment with the primary device, modifying an audio path of the conference call.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting, by the second computing device and to a conference call infrastructure, an indication that a control signal associated with the first computing device was detected.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

detecting, by the second computing device, a prolonged absence of the audio signal that includes the control signal associated with the first computing device; and

emitting, by a speaker of the second computing device, an audio signal that includes a control signal associated with the second computing device.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising:

transmitting, by the second computing device and to a conference call infrastructure, an indication that the prolonged absence of the audio signal that includes the control signal associated with the first computing device has been detected; and

receiving, by the second computing device and from the conference call infrastructure, an assignment of a control signal associated with the second computing device to emit in an audio signal in the conference call.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising transmitting, by the first computing device and to a conference call infrastructure, an indication of the absence of an audio signal.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising receiving, by the first computing device and from the conference call infrastructure, an assignment of a control signal associated with the first computing device to emit in an audio signal in the conference call.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

receiving, by the first computing device and from a conference call infrastructure, a notification to stop emitting the audio signal that includes the control signal associated with the first computing device; and

receiving, by the second computing device and from the conference call infrastructure, an assignment of a control signal associated with the second computing device to emit in an audio signal in the conference call.

8. A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

one or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing computer-executable instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

joining, by a first computing device, a conference call;

detecting, by a microphone of the first computing device, an absence of an audio signal that includes a control signal;

emitting, by a speaker of the first computing device, an audio signal that includes a control signal associated with the first computing device and indicating that the first computing device is a primary device of an audio environment associated with the conference call;

joining, by a second computing device, the conference call;

detecting, by a microphone of the second computing device, the audio signal that includes the control signal associated with the first computing device;

determining, based at least in part on the control signal associated with the first computing device, that the second computing device shares the audio environment with the primary device; and

based at least in part on determining that the second computing device shares the audio environment with the primary device, modifying an audio path of the conference call.

9. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising transmitting, by the second computing device and to a conference call infrastructure, an indication that a control signal associated with the first computing device was detected.

10. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:

detecting, by the second computing device, a prolonged absence of the audio signal that includes the control signal associated with the first computing device; and

emitting, by a speaker of the second computing device, an audio signal that includes a control signal associated with the second computing device.

11. The system of claim 10 , the operations further comprising:

transmitting, by the second computing device and to a conference call infrastructure, an indication that the prolonged absence of the audio signal that includes the control signal associated with the first computing device has been detected; and

receiving, by the second computing device and from the conference call infrastructure, an assignment of a control signal associated with the second computing device to emit in an audio signal in the conference call.

12. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising transmitting, by the first computing device and to a conference call infrastructure, an indication of the absence of an audio signal.

13. The system of claim 12 , the operations further comprising receiving, by the first computing device and from the conference call infrastructure, an assignment of a control signal associated with the first computing device to emit in an audio signal in the conference call.

14. The system of claim 8 , the operations further comprising:

receiving, by the first computing device and from a conference call infrastructure, a notification to stop emitting the audio signal that includes the control signal associated with the first computing device; and

receiving, by the second computing device and from the conference call infrastructure, an assignment of a control signal associated with the second computing device to emit in an audio signal in the conference call.

15. One or more non-transitory computer-readable media storing instructions that, when executed, cause one or more processors to perform operations comprising:

joining, by a first computing device, a conference call;

detecting, by a microphone of the first computing device, an absence of an audio signal that includes a control signal;

emitting, by a speaker of the first computing device, an audio signal that includes a control signal associated with the first computing device and indicating that the first computing device is a primary device of an audio environment associated with the conference call;

joining, by a second computing device, the conference call;

detecting, by a microphone of the second computing device, the audio signal that includes the control signal associated with the first computing device;

determining, based at least in part on the control signal associated with the first computing device, that the second computing device shares the audio environment with the primary device; and

based at least in part on determining that the second computing device shares the audio environment with the primary device, modifying an audio path of the conference call.

16. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 15 , the operations further comprising transmitting, by the second computing device and to a conference call infrastructure, an indication that a control signal associated with the first computing device was detected.

17. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 15 , the operations further comprising:

detecting, by the second computing device, a prolonged absence of the audio signal that includes the control signal associated with the first computing device; and

emitting, by a speaker of the second computing device, an audio signal that includes a control signal associated with the second computing device.

18. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 17 , the operations further comprising:

transmitting, by the second computing device and to a conference call infrastructure, an indication that the prolonged absence of the audio signal that includes the control signal associated with the first computing device has been detected; and

receiving, by the second computing device and from the conference call infrastructure, an assignment of a control signal associated with the second computing device to emit in an audio signal in the conference call.

19. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 15 , the operations further comprising transmitting, by the first computing device and to a conference call infrastructure, an indication of the absence of an audio signal.

20. The one or more non-transitory computer-readable media of claim 19 , the operations further comprising receiving, by the first computing device and from the conference call infrastructure, an assignment of a control signal associated with the first computing device to emit in an audio signal in the conference call.
