Abstract

A food recycler can include a case having a case volume between 8.79 liters and 35 liters, a control system, a user interface in electrical communication with the control system, and a bucket being configured with a bucket volume, wherein a ratio of the bucket volume to the case volume is between 0.0717 and 0.2857. The recycler can include a motor in communication with the control system, the motor being configured adjacent at least in part to the bucket, a gearbox configured below the bucket and in mechanical communication with the motor, a filter system having at least one filter and configured to receive air from a top portion of the bucket and a drying component configured to remove water from waste food items.

Claims (57)

1. A food recycler, comprising:

a housing having a housing volume;

a motor in electrical communication with a controller;

a grinding mechanism in mechanical communication with the motor, the grinding mechanism comprising a grinding arm protruding from a central support;

a bucket having a bucket volume, the bucket being removable and configured with the grinding mechanism contained therein such that waste food placed in the bucket remains in the bucket during a food recycling process; and

at least one member that extends from an interior wall of the bucket, the at least one member overlapping the grinding arm as the grinding arm rotates by the at least one member.

2. The food recycler of claim 1 , further comprising:

a controller comprising a set of indicators and at least one user interface component usable to at least initiate the food recycling process.

3. The food recycler of claim 1 , further comprising:

a gearbox configured below the bucket and in mechanical communication with the motor and the grinding mechanism.

4. The food recycler of claim 1 , wherein the bucket volume comprises between 2.51 and 10 liters, inclusive and wherein the food recycler consumes 0.1 kilowatt hours of energy per 100 grams of the waste food.

5. The food recycler of claim 1 , wherein the housing volume comprises between 8.79 liters and 35 liters.

6. The food recycler of claim 1 , further comprising:

a drying component configured to remove water from the waste food placed within the bucket.

7. The food recycler of claim 1 , wherein a ratio of the bucket volume to the housing volume is between 0.0717 and 0.2857.

8. A food recycler comprising:

a bucket being removable from the food recycler and configured with a bucket volume;

a motor;

a grinding arm extending from a central component within the bucket and configured to rotate when the motor is operating;

a member extending from an interior wall of the bucket, the member overlapping the grinding arm as the grinding arm rotates adjacent to the member; and

a gearbox configured below the bucket and in mechanical communication with the motor.

9. The food recycler of claim 8 , wherein a case volume of the food recycler is between 8.79 liters and 35 liters, inclusive and the bucket volume is between 2.51 liters and 10 liters, inclusive and wherein a ratio of the bucket volume to the case volume is between 0.0717 and 0.2857 and wherein waste food placed in the bucket remains in the bucket throughout a food recycling process.

10. The food recycler of claim 8 , further comprising:

a control system; and

a drying component, wherein the food recycler further comprises a sensor component in electrical communication with the control system, wherein the sensor component generates sensor data based on characteristics of waste food and wherein the control system determines operation of the drying component based on the sensor data.

11. The food recycler of claim 8 , further comprising:

a control system; and

an RF component in electrical communication with the control system, wherein the RF component transmits microwaves into the bucket to heat waste food.

12. The food recycler of claim 8 , further comprising:

a case, wherein the case comprises:

a height between 324 millimeters and 396 millimeters;

a length between 165 millimeters and 329 millimeters; and

a width between 165 millimeters and 329 millimeters.

13. The food recycler of claim 8 , wherein a food recycling cycle consumes 0.1 kilowatt hours of energy per 100 grams of waste food.

14. The food recycler of claim 8 , further comprising a first filter and a second filter, wherein the first filter and the second filter are removable.

15. The food recycler of claim 8 , further comprising:

a drying component;

a filter system; and

a control system, wherein the drying component comprises a fan in electrical communication with the control system to draw air from the bucket and through the filter system.

16. The food recycler of claim 8 , wherein the grinding arm is mechanically connected to the motor.

17. The food recycler of claim 8 , further comprising:

a control system; and

an antenna in electrical communication with the control system, the antenna configured to allow wireless communication between the control system and other devices over a communications network.

18. A food recycler comprising:

a case having a case volume;

a control system;

a bucket being removable from the food recycler and configured with a bucket volume;

a grinding arm extending from a central component within the bucket and configured to rotate;

an attachment that is configured on an interior wall of the bucket and having a member that extends from the interior wall of the bucket towards the central component, the member periodically overlapping the grinding arm as the grinding arm rotates;

a filter system comprising a first filter positioned adjacent to the bucket and configured to receive air from a top portion of the bucket and a second filter configured within the case volume;

a lid configured to be movable to enable access to the bucket, the lid configured to enable the air to flow from the top portion of the bucket to the first filter; and

a motor in communication with the control system.

19. The food recycler of claim 18 , wherein the case volume is between 8.79 liters and 35 liters, inclusive and wherein a ratio of the bucket volume to the case volume is between 0.0717 and 0.2857.

20. A bucket configured to operate with a food recycler, the bucket comprising:

a grinding arm extending from a central component;

an interior wall defining a bucket volume, the bucket being removable and configured with the grinding arm contained therein such that waste food placed in the bucket remains in the bucket during a food recycling process; and
