Abstract

A wellhead apparatus comprising a first part that is mountable to a portion of a wellhead or proximal to the wellhead and a second part that is mountable to a component of wellhead operation equipment, wherein the component is operatively connectible to the wellhead, wherein the wellhead identifier generates an identifier signal when the first part is proximal the second part and is receivable by a user to identify the wellhead from a plurality of wellheads when the wellhead and the component are operatively connected. A wellhead identifier system comprising a detectable signal generator mountable to a component of wellhead operation equipment, a sensor configured to detect the detectable signal for generating object-based sensory information, and a controller circuit for receiving the object-based sensory information and for identifying a wellhead on a well pad where a wellhead operation has or will commence on the wellhead.

Claims (20)

1. A wellhead identifier apparatus, the apparatus comprising:

a first part that is mountable to a portion of a wellhead or proximal to the wellhead; and

a second part that is mountable to a component of wellhead operation equipment, wherein the component is operatively connectible to the wellhead,

wherein the wellhead identifier generates an identifier signal when the first part is proximal the second part and the identifier signal is receivable by a user to identify the wellhead from a plurality of wellheads when the wellhead and the component are operatively connected.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first part comprises a sensor for detecting when the second part is proximal the first part.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the sensor is configured to detect a signature generated by the second part, wherein the signature is a magnetic signature, an electronic signature, a radio-frequency identity signature, an optical signature or any combination thereof.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second part comprises a sensor for detecting when the second part is proximal the first part.

5. The apparatus of claim 4 , wherein the sensor is configured to detect a signature generated by the first part, wherein the signature is a magnetic signature, an electronic signature, a radio-frequency identity signature, an optical signature or any combination thereof.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , further comprising a transmitter for communicating the identifier signal to a controller circuit.

7. The apparatus of claim 6 , wherein the transmitter is configured to communicate the identifier signal wirelessly or by a wire.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the component is a lubricator.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first part is releasably mountable to the portion of the wellhead or proximal to the wellhead.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second part is releasably mountable to the component.

11. A wellhead identifier system, the system comprising:

a detectable signal generator mountable to a component of wellhead operation equipment;

a sensor configured to detect the detectable signal for generating object-based sensory information when the wellhead and the component are proximal each other; and

a controller circuit for receiving the object-based sensory information and for identifying a wellhead on a well pad wherein the wellhead and the component are operatively connected to each other and where a wellhead operation has or will commence on the wellhead.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the detectable signal is a pressure signal, an optical signal, a radio-frequency identification signal, an ultrasonic signal, a global positioning information signal, a digital compass signal, a magnetic signal, an electronic signal or any combination thereof.

13. The system of claim 11 , wherein the component is a lubricator.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the controller circuit is further configured to generate a command to prevent actuation of a wellhead control mechanism of the identified wellhead, wherein the command prevents a change in the operational position of the wellhead control mechanism.
