Abstract

A wireless communication device executes a low-latency application in a source wireless communication network based on application context that comprises an application user identifier, an application session identifier, and an application session pointer. A target wireless communication network detects a hand-in of the wireless communication device, and in response, obtains the application context for the wireless communication device from the source wireless communication network. The target wireless communication network wirelessly exchanges low-latency data with the wireless communication device for the low-latency application based on the application context that comprises the application user identifier, the application session identifier, and the application session pointer.

Claims (33)

1. A method to serve a wireless communication device that executes a low-latency application, the method comprising:

detecting a hand-in of the wireless communication device that was executing the low-latency application in a source wireless communication network based on application context that comprises an application user identifier, an application session identifier, and an application session pointer;

in response to the hand-in, obtaining the application context for the wireless communication device from the source wireless communication network; and

wirelessly exchanging low-latency data with the wireless communication device for the low-latency application based on the application context that comprises the application user identifier, the application session identifier, and the application session pointer.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the low-latency application comprises a video-conferencing application.

3. The method of claim 1 wherein the low-latency application comprises an augmented-reality application.

4. The method of claim 1 wherein the low-latency application comprises a vehicle-navigation application.

5. The method of claim 1 wherein the low-latency application comprises a remote-keyboard application.

6. The method of claim 1 wherein the low-latency application comprises a machine-control application.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the application context further comprises a low-latency application version.

8. A method of operating a wireless communication network to serve a wireless communication device that executes a low-latency application, the method comprising:

a wireless access node detecting a hand-in of the wireless communication device that was executing the low-latency application in a source wireless communication network based on application context that comprises an application user identifier, an application session identifier, and an application session pointer;

the wireless access node transferring a handover notice for the wireless communication device;

an application server receiving the handover notice for the wireless communication device, and in response, obtaining the application context for the wireless communication device from the source wireless communication network;

the application server exchanging low-latency data for the low-latency application with the wireless access node based on the application context that comprises the application user identifier, the application session identifier, and the application session pointer; and

the wireless access node exchanging the low-latency data for the low-latency application with the application server and wirelessly exchanging the low-latency data for the low-latency application with the wireless communication device.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein the low-latency application comprises a video-conferencing application.

10. The method of claim 8 wherein the low-latency application comprises an augmented-reality application.

11. The method of claim 8 wherein the low-latency application comprises a vehicle-navigation application.

12. The method of claim 8 wherein the low-latency application comprises a remote-keyboard application.

13. The method of claim 8 wherein the low-latency application comprises a machine-control application.

14. The method of claim 8 wherein the application context for the wireless communication device further comprises a low-latency application version.

15. A wireless communication network to serve a wireless communication device that executes a low-latency application, the wireless communication network comprising:

a wireless access node to detect a hand-in of the wireless communication device that was executing the low-latency application in a source wireless communication network based on application context that comprises an application user identifier, an application session identifier, and an application session pointer;

the wireless access node to transfer a handover notice for the wireless communication device;

an application server to receive the handover notice, and in response, to obtain the application context for the wireless communication device from the source wireless communication network;

the application server to exchange low-latency data for the low-latency application with the wireless access node based on the application context that comprises the application user identifier, the application session identifier, and the application session pointer; and

the wireless access node to exchange the low-latency data for the low-latency application with the application server and to wirelessly exchange the low-latency data for the low-latency application with the wireless communication device.

16. The wireless communication network of claim 15 wherein the low-latency application comprises a video-conferencing application.

17. The wireless communication network of claim 15 wherein the low-latency application comprises an augmented-reality application.

18. The wireless communication network of claim 15 wherein the low-latency application comprises a vehicle-navigation application.

19. The wireless communication network of claim 15 wherein the low-latency application comprises a remote-keyboard application.

20. The wireless communication network of claim 15 wherein the low-latency application comprises a machine-control application.
