Abstract

A base station distributed unit (BS-DU) sends, to a base station central unit (BS-CU), a radio link control (RLC) bearer configuration associated with a small data transmission (SDT) procedure of a wireless device. The BS-DU receives, from the BS-CU, a context release command message, for the wireless device. The context release command message comprises a radio resource control (RRC) release message and an indication to store the RLC bearer configuration. The BS-DU transmits, to the wireless device, the RRC release message. Based on the indication to store the RLC bearer configuration, the BS-DU keeps the RLC bearer configuration.

Claims (42)

1. A method comprising:

sending, by a base station distributed unit (BS-DU) to a base station central unit (BS- CU), a radio link control (RLC) bearer configuration associated with a small data transmission (SDT) procedure of a wireless device;

receiving, by the BS-DU from the BS-CU, a context release command message, for the wireless device, comprising:

a radio resource control (RRC) release message; and

an indication to store the RLC bearer configuration;

transmitting, by the BS-DU to the wireless device, the RRC release message; and

based on the indication to store the RLC bearer configuration, keeping, by the BS-DU, the RLC bearer configuration.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the RRC release message indicates to transition the wireless device to an RRC inactive state or an RRC idle state.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the context release command message indicates for the BS-DU to release a context of the wireless device.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising releasing, by the BS-DU, the context of the wireless device while keeping the RLC bearer configuration.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the keeping the RLC bearer configuration comprises keeping the RLC in a storage.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the keeping the RLC bearer configuration is after receiving the context release command message.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the keeping the RLC bearer configuration is after transmitting the RRC release message.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the RLC bearer configuration comprises:

a logical channel identity of a logical channel of a radio bearer configured for the SDT procedure; and

a logical channel configuration of the logical channel.

9. A base station distributed unit (BS-DU) comprising one or more processors and memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the BS-DU to:

send, to a base station central unit (BS-CU), a radio link control (RLC) bearer configuration associated with a small data transmission (SDT) procedure of a wireless device;

receive, from the BS-CU, a context release command message, for the wireless device, comprising:

a radio resource control (RRC) release message; and

an indication to store the RLC bearer configuration;

transmit, to the wireless device, the RRC release message; and

based on the indication to store the RLC bearer configuration, keep the RLC bearer configuration.

10. The BS-DU of claim 9 , wherein the RRC release message indicates to transition the wireless device to an RRC inactive state or an RRC idle state.

11. The BS-DU of claim 9 , wherein the context release command message indicates for the BS-DU to release a context of the wireless device.

12. The BS-DU of claim 11 , wherein the instructions further cause the BS-DU to release the context of the wireless device.

13. The BS-DU of claim 9 , wherein the keeping the RLC bearer configuration comprises keeping the RLC in a storage.

14. The BS-DU of claim 9 , wherein the keeping the RLC bearer configuration is after receiving the context release command message.

15. The BS-DU of claim 9 , wherein the keeping the RLC bearer configuration is after transmitting the RRC release message.

16. The BS-DU of claim 9 , wherein the RLC bearer configuration comprises:

a logical channel identity of a logical channel of a radio bearer configured for the SDT procedure; and

a logical channel configuration of the logical channel.

17. A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed by one or more processors of a base station distributed unit (BS-DU), cause the BS-DU to:

send, to a base station central unit (BS-CU), a radio link control (RLC) bearer configuration associated with a small data transmission (SDT) procedure of a wireless device;

receive, from the BS-CU, a context release command message, for the wireless device, comprising:

a radio resource control (RRC) release message; and

an indication to store the RLC bearer configuration;

transmit, to the wireless device, the RRC release message; and

based on the indication to store the RLC bearer configuration, keep the RLC bearer configuration.

18. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the RRC release message indicates to transition the wireless device to an RRC inactive state or an RRC idle state.

19. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the context release command message indicates for the BS-DU to release a context of the wireless device.

20. The non-transitory computer-readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the instructions further cause the one or more processors to release the context of the wireless device.
