Article of footwear having a sole structure incorporating a plate and chamber
A sole structure may include a midsole element, a plate, a first chamber, and a second chamber. The midsole element may be formed from a foamed polymer material. The plate may be formed from a substantially non-foamed polymer material, and the plate has an upper surface and an opposite lower surface. The plate is embedded within the midsole element such that the foamed polymer material exposes a first area and a second area of the lower surface. The first chamber and the second chamber each have a fluid-filled configuration. The first chamber is secured to the first area, and the second chamber is secured to the second area.
1. A sole structure for an article of footwear, the sole structure comprising:
a midsole; and
a plate including an upper surface at least partially embedded within and facing the midsole, the plate including (i) a central, longitudinal axis defining a medial side of the plate and a lateral side of the plate, (ii) a plurality of parallel elongate ribs extending into the midsole from the upper surface, the plurality of elongate ribs including a first rib extending transverse to the longitudinal axis and from a first terminal end disposed on one of the medial side of the plate and the lateral side of the plate to a second terminal end disposed on the one of the medial side of the plate and the lateral side of the plate and a second rib extending from a third terminal end disposed on the medial side of the plate to a fourth terminal end disposed on the lateral side of the plate, and (iii) a plurality of apertures formed through the upper surface of the plate, the midsole extending through the plurality of apertures to bond the plate to the midsole.
2. The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein the first rib and the second rib are disposed in a forefoot region of the sole structure.
3. The sole structure of claim 2 , wherein each of the first rib and the second rib includes a longitudinal axis extending substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the plate.
4. The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein each of the first rib and the second rib includes a longitudinal axis extending substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal axis of the plate.
5. The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein the first rib and the second rib include different lengths.
6. The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein the first rib is disposed closer to an anterior end of the plate than the second rib, the first rib including a shorter length than the second rib.
7. The sole structure of claim 6 , wherein the first rib is disposed in a forefoot region of the sole structure and the second rib is disposed in a midfoot region of the sole structure.
8. The sole structure of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of elongate ribs includes a third rib and a fourth rib disposed closer to a posterior end of the plate than the first rib and the second rib, the third rib and the fourth rib being convergent with one another.
9. An article of footwear incorporating the sole structure of claim 1 .
10. A sole structure for an article of footwear, the sole structure comprising:
a midsole; and
a plate including an upper surface at least partially embedded within and facing the midsole, the plate including (i) a plurality of elongate ribs extending into the midsole from the upper surface, the plurality of elongate ribs including a first rib and a second rib that are convergent with one another, and (ii) a plurality of apertures formed through the upper surface of the plate between the first rib and the second rib, the midsole extending through the plurality of apertures to bond the plate to the midsole.
11. The sole structure of claim 10 , wherein the first rib and the second rib are disposed in a heel region of the sole structure.
12. The sole structure of claim 11 , wherein the first rib and the second rib radiate from the same point.
13. The sole structure of claim 10 , wherein the first rib and the second rib radiate from the same point.
14. The sole structure of claim 10 , wherein the first rib and the second rib have the same length.
15. The sole structure of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of elongate ribs includes a third rib and a fourth rib disposed closer to an anterior end of the plate than the first rib and the second rib, the third rib and the fourth rib being parallel with one another.
16. The sole structure of claim 15 , wherein each of the third rib and the fourth rib includes a longitudinal axis that is perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the sole structure.
17. An article of footwear incorporating the sole structure of claim 10 .
