Abstract

A heart valve therapeutic device ( 1 ) comprises a coaptation assist valve ( 20 ) comprising a conduit ( 2 ) with an outer surface ( 3 ) for coaption with the native leaflets, and a prosthetic flow valve ( 5 ) mounted within the conduit ( 2 ) to allow one-way flow through the conduit ( 2 ). Support for the coaptation assist valve ( 20 ) is provided by a support ( 10 ) for positioning the conduit ( 2 ) across the native leaflets, and connectors ( 15 ) attaching the conduit ( 2 ) to the support ( 10 ).

Claims (32)

1. A method for placing a heart valve therapeutic device across a patient's native heart valve, the method comprising:

delivering a prosthetic in a collapsed state to a heart chamber, the prosthetic coupled to a support;

deploying the prosthetic in the heart chamber;

deflecting the support to direct the prosthetic towards a site of a native heart valve;

moving a portion of the support to move the prosthetic to within the site of the native heart valve; and

expanding a stent to anchor the support, such that the prosthetic is implanted and retained within the site of the native heart valve,

wherein a tube extends through, and is fixed to, the stent and receives the support such that axial and/or rotational movement of the prosthetic is permitted relative to the stent via the support.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein delivering the prosthetic in the collapsed state to the heart chamber comprises delivering the prosthetic in the collapsed state within a delivery sheath.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the prosthetic is self-expanding such that deploying the prosthetic in the heart chamber comprises moving the prosthetic relative to the delivery sheath to expose the prosthetic from the delivery sheath.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the support comprises a guide tube and an elongate support rail movably disposed within the guide tube, the elongated support rail comprising a pre-set bend, and wherein deflecting the support comprises moving the guide tube of the support relative to the pre-set bend of the elongate support rail.

5. The method of claim 4 , further comprising locking the guide tube to the elongate support rail.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein moving the portion of the support to move the prosthetic comprises telescoping the portion of the support to advance or retract the prosthetic.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein expanding the stent to anchor the support comprises expanding the stent within a blood vessel coupled to the heart chamber such that the stent engages a wall of the blood vessel.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the stent is self-expanding.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the stent comprises a plurality of longitudinal struts and circumferential hoops.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the support extends from the tube when the stent is expanded to suspend the prosthetic within the site of the native heart valve.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the stent is configured to hold the support at a particular radial location, thereby biasing at least part of the support towards the particular radial location.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the prosthetic comprises a proximal ring, a distal ring, and a side wall extending between the proximal and distal rings.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein the proximal and distal rings are coupled to the support via a plurality of spokes.

14. The method of claim 1 , wherein the prosthetic is configured to coapt with native leaflets of the native heart valve when the prosthetic is implanted and retained within the site of the native heart valve.

15. The method of claim 1 , further comprising permitting blood flow through a channel of the prosthetic when the prosthetic is implanted and retained within the site of the native heart valve.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the prosthetic comprises a valve mounted within the channel.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the valve is configured to allow diastolic blood flow and to prevent systolic blood flow.

18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the valve comprises a plurality of prosthetic leaflets mounted within the channel.

19. The method of claim 1 , wherein the prosthetic is implanted and retained within the site of the native heart valve without anchoring of the prosthetic to an annulus of the native heart valve or atrial or ventricular tissue.

20. A method for placing a heart valve therapeutic device across a patient's native heart valve, the method comprising:

delivering a prosthetic in a collapsed state to a heart chamber, the prosthetic coupled to a support;

expanding the prosthetic in the heart chamber;

deflecting the support to direct the prosthetic towards a site of a native heart valve;

telescoping a portion of the support to move the prosthetic to within the site of the native heart valve; and

expanding a stent to anchor the support, such that the prosthetic is implanted and retained within the site of the native heart valve,

wherein a tube extends through, and is fixed to, the stent and receives the support such that axial and/or rotational movement of the prosthetic is permitted relative to the stent via the support.
