Abstract

Concrete form assemblies having insulating foam panels are created using locking members embedded within the insulating foam panels and ties each having a pair of side rails for coupling two insulating foam panels together at a predetermined distance apart, the locking members and side rails being adapted so that either side rail can be coupled to either locking member and either of the ends of the rails and locking members can be toward the top or bottom of the assembly when the rails are coupled to the locking members.

Claims (7)

1. A concrete form assembly comprising:

a. a first insulative panel and a second insulative panel arranged end to end and in contact with each other at an abutment, each of said first insulative panel and said second insulative panel comprising a first locking member having an inner plate, an outer plate, a plurality of struts extending between the inner plate and the outer plate and holding the inner plate and outer plate in spaced relation relative to each other, a plurality of teeth projecting from a first surface of the inner plate and arranged in two rows each having opposing ends and separated from each other by a space, each of said plurality of teeth having a recess open toward the space and an inside surface;

b. first and second ties each comprising a first rail having a first rail member, a second rail member, a connecting member, wherein the rail of the first tie is adapted to permit the connecting member of the first tie to slide through the space of the first locking member of the first insulative panel of while the first rail member of the first tie slides through and is captured by the recesses of the teeth of the first locking member of the first insulative panel and the second rail member of the first tie slides across the inside surfaces of the teeth of the first locking member of the first insulative panel, and wherein locking tabs are adapted to engage the opposing ends of the two rows and wherein the rail of the second tie is adapted to permit the connecting member of the second tie to slide through the space of the second locking member of the second insulative panel while the first rail member of the second tie slides through and is captured by the recesses of the teeth of the second locking member of the second insulative panel and the second rail member of the second tie slides across the inside surfaces of the teeth of the second locking member of the second insulative panel;

c. at least one slotted plate having a first slot adapted to receive a portion of the first tie and a second slot adapted to receive a portion of the second tie, and wherein the slotted plate spans the abutment.

2. The concrete form assembly of claim 1 further comprising a first screw extending through the first insulative panel adjacent the abutment and into the at least one slotted plate, and a second screw extending through the second insulative panel adjacent the abutment and into the at least one slotted plate.

3. The concrete form assembly of claim 2 wherein each of said first and second screws have heads, and further comprising washers adapted to reduce the risk of the heads from traveling through the first insulative panel and the second insulative panel.

4. The concrete form assembly of claim 1 further comprising at least one secondary tie coupled to the at least one slotted plate.
