Abstract

Spectacles that control myopia progression have a central zone that achieves foveal vision correction and distributed micro-reticle(s) and corresponding micro-lens(es) around the paracentral and/or peripheral zone of the spectacle. Each micro-lens is disposed between its corresponding micro-reticle and the pupil of a wearer's eye. The micro-reticle(s) and micro-len(s) are integrated with the structure of the spectacle to partially block some of the paracentral and/or peripheral objects from surrounding optical environment. The rest of the paracentral and/or peripheral retinal areas are still available for a wearer's eye to sense the presence and movement of surrounding objects.

Claims (27)

1. An optical system for myopia progression control by placement in front of an eye, wherein the optical system includes a central zone and at least one of a paracentral zone and a peripheral zone, the optical system comprising of:

a first integrated reticle located on the at least one of the paracentral zone and the peripheral zone of the optical system;

a corresponding first reticle focuser located on the at least one of the paracentral zone and the peripheral zone of the optical system, wherein the first reticle focuser is configured to be located between the first integrated reticle and a pupil of the eye, and thereby capable of projecting an image of the first integrated reticle onto at least one of a paracentral region and a peripheral region of a retina of the eye, wherein the image of the first integrated reticle is within a band of longer wavelengths of a visible light spectrum, and wherein the image of the first integrated reticle is to be perceived by the eye as within focus at the retina;

a second integrated reticle located on the at least one of the paracentral zone and the peripheral zone of the optical system; and

a corresponding second reticle focuser located on the at least one of the paracentral zone and the peripheral zone of the optical system, wherein the second reticle focuser is configured to be located between the second integrated reticle and the pupil of the eye, and thereby capable of projecting an image of the second integrated reticle onto the at least one of a paracentral region and a peripheral region of the retina of the eye, wherein the image of the second integrated reticle is within a band of shorter wavelengths of the visible light spectrum, and wherein the image of the second integrated reticle is to be perceived by the eye as myopically defocused at the retina, thereby retarding myopia progression of the eye.

2. The optical system of claim 1 wherein the integrated reticle is formed by depositing or by embedding.

3. The optical system of claim 1 wherein the reticle focuser is formed by imprinting, by molding or by embedding.

4. The optical system of claim 1 , wherein the integrated reticle is configured to be active with light emitting capabilities.

5. The optical system of claim 1 wherein the optical system is a spectacle having at least one lens, and wherein the integrated reticle and the reticle focuser are integrated with the at least one lens.

6. The optical system of claim 5 wherein the at least one lens is a single lens.

7. The optical system of claim 5 wherein the reticle focuser includes a plurality of micro-lenses.

8. The optical system of claim 5 wherein the reticle focuser includes at least one micro-cylindrical-lens forming at least a ring segment for projecting a sagittal image.

9. The optical system of claim 5 wherein the reticle focuser includes at least one micro-cylindrical-lens forming at least a radial segment for projecting a tangential image.

10. The optical system of claim 5 wherein the integrated reticle includes a plurality of micro-reticles.

11. The optical system of claim 10 wherein the micro-reticles are aligned in at least one of a radial direction, a meridional direction and a circumferential direction relative to the pupil of the eye.

12. The optical system of claim 1 wherein the integrated reticle is configured to be coupled to a light source.

13. The optical system of claim 12 wherein the integrated reticle includes a pattern.

14. The optical system of claim 13 wherein the pattern is made from a light-emitting diode material.

15. The optical system of claim 12 wherein the light source is configured to be operatively coupled to a power source by at least one optically transparent electrode.

16. The optical system of claim 15 wherein the power source is embedded in a frame of a spectacle.

17. The optical system of claim 1 wherein the integrated reticle is opaque or semi-transparent.

18. The optical system of claim 1 wherein the integrated reticle is reflective or absorptive.

19. A method for manufacturing an optical system for myopia progression control in front of an eye, wherein the optical system includes a central zone and at least one of a paracentral zone and a peripheral zone, the method comprising of:

forming a first integrated reticle located on the at least one of the paracentral zone and the peripheral zone of the optical system;

forming a corresponding first reticle focuser located on the at least one of the paracentral zone and the peripheral zone of the optical system, wherein the first reticle focuser is configured to be located between the first integrated reticle and a pupil of the eye, and thereby capable of projecting an image of the first integrated reticle onto at least one of a paracentral region and a peripheral region of a retina of the eye, wherein the image of the first integrated reticle is within a band of longer wavelengths of a visible light spectrum, and wherein the image of the first integrated reticle is to be perceived by the eye as within focus at the retina;

forming a second integrated reticle located on the at least one of the paracentral zone and the peripheral zone of the optical system; and

forming a corresponding second reticle focuser located on the at least one of the paracentral zone and the peripheral zone of the optical system, wherein the second reticle focuser is configured to be located between the second integrated reticle and the pupil of the eye, and thereby capable of projecting an image of the second integrated reticle onto the at least one of a paracentral region and a peripheral region of the retina of the eye, wherein the image of the second integrated reticle is within a band of shorter wavelengths of the visible light spectrum, and wherein the image of the second integrated reticle is to be perceived by the eye as myopically defocused at the retina, thereby retarding myopia progression of the eye.
