Abstract

Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed for data processing and creating a record of the processing for archival in metadata associated with the results of the processing. The processing may include transformations of the data. Transforming the data may generate transformed data. The processes performed may be archived, for example, in metadata associated with the transformed data. The metadata may be annotated with information associated with previous transforms performed on the transformed data. The metadata may be stored with the transformed data.

Claims (44)

1. A surgical hub comprising, a processor configured to:

obtain surgical procedure data associated with a patient, wherein the surgical procedure data is obtained from one or more of a module associated with the surgical hub or a surgical system that is located within the bounds of an operating room;

process, using at least a first transform, the surgical procedure data associated with the module or the surgical system, wherein the processor being configured to process the surgical procedure data comprises the processor being configured to transform the surgical procedure data to generate transformed surgical procedure data;

generate metadata associated with the transformed surgical procedure data, wherein the metadata is generated based on at least the first transform, and wherein the metadata comprises an indication of the first transform used to perform transformation of the surgical procedure data; and

store the transformed surgical procedure data and the metadata comprising the indication of the first transform.

2. The surgical hub of claim 1 , wherein the metadata further comprises a time associated with the processing of the surgical procedure data, a location associated with the processing of the surgical procedure data, information indicating a portion of the surgical procedure data that was processed, or a revision of the first transform used to perform the transformation.

3. The surgical hub of claim 1 , wherein the processor being configured to process the surgical procedure data or generate the metadata associated with the transformed surgical procedure data comprises the processor being configured to process the surgical procedure data or generate the metadata using blockchain recording.

4. The surgical hub of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

obtain previously stored transformed surgical procedure data and previously stored metadata associated with the previously stored transformed surgical procedure data;

process the previously stored transformed surgical procedure data, wherein the processor being configured to process the previously stored transformed surgical procedure data comprises the processor being configured to transform the previously stored transformed surgical procedure data; and

generate updated metadata associated with the transformation of the previously stored transformed surgical procedure data, wherein the updated metadata comprises the first transform and a second transform that is used in performing the transformation of the previously stored transformed surgical procedure data.

5. The surgical hub of claim 1 , wherein the processor being configured to process the surgical procedure data comprises the processor being configured to combine the surgical procedure data.

6. The surgical hub of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine, based on situational awareness information, a first classification type associated with a first task and a second classification type associated with a second task;

determine, based on the first classification type and the second classification type, that a first priority associated with the first task is higher than a second priority associated with the second task, wherein the first task is a surgical procedure task; and

pause processing of the second task until the first task is completed.

7. The surgical hub of claim 6 , wherein the second task is one of a surgical procedure task, a data processing task, or a data communication task.

8. The surgical hub of claim 1 , wherein the processor is further configured to:

determine a data tier to be used for storing the transformed surgical procedure data and the metadata associated with the transformation of the surgical procedure data;

select a data storage based on the determined data tier; and

store the transformed surgical procedure data and the metadata comprising the first transform using the selected data storage.

9. The surgical hub of claim 8 , wherein the data tier is an edge tier, a manufacturer cloud tier, a surgical hub tier, or a surgeon tier.

10. A method comprising:

obtaining surgical procedure data associated with a patient, wherein the surgical procedure data is obtained from one or more of a module associated with the surgical hub or a surgical system that is located within the bounds of an operating room;

processing, using at least a first transform, the surgical procedure data associated with the module or the surgical system, wherein the processing comprises transforming the surgical procedure data to generate transformed surgical procedure data;

generating metadata associated with the transformed surgical procedure data, wherein the metadata is generated based on at least the first transform, and wherein the metadata comprises an indication of the first transform used in performing the transformation of the surgical procedure data; and

storing the transformed surgical procedure data and the metadata comprising the indication of the first transform.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the metadata further comprises a time associated with the processing of the surgical procedure data, a location associated with the processing of the surgical procedure data, information indicating a portion of the surgical procedure data that was processed, or a revision of the first transform used to perform the transformation.

12. The method of claim 10 , wherein the processing of the surgical procedure data or generating of the metadata associated with the transformed surgical procedure data comprises processing the surgical procedure data or generating the metadata using blockchain recording.

13. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

obtaining previously stored transformed surgical procedure data and previously stored metadata associated with the previously stored transformed surgical procedure data;

processing the previously stored transformed surgical procedure data, wherein the processing comprises transforming the previously stored transformed surgical procedure data; and

generating updated metadata associated with the transformation of the previously stored transformed surgical procedure data, wherein the updated metadata comprises the first transform and a second transform that is used in performing the transformation of the previously stored transformed surgical procedure data.

14. The method of claim 10 , wherein the processing of the surgical procedure data comprises combining the surgical procedure data.

15. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

determining, based on situational awareness information, a first classification type associated with a first task and a second classification type associated with a second task;

determining, based on the first classification type and the second classification type, that a first priority associated with the first task is higher than a second priority associated with the second task, wherein the first task is a surgical procedure task; and

pausing processing of the second task until the first task is completed.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the second task is one of a surgical procedure task, a data processing task, or a data communication task.

17. The method of claim 10 , further comprising:

determining a data tier to be used for storing the transformed surgical procedure data and the metadata associated with the transformation of the surgical procedure data;
