Abstract

A sensing device includes a touch panel including first and second sensor electrodes, and a touch panel controller acquiring a sensing signal from the touch panel and detecting a user input based on the sensing signal. The touch panel controller acquires the sensing signal from at least one of the first sensor electrodes and the second sensor electrodes in a first mode operating at a first power. The touch panel controller selects a first transmitting electrode, a second transmitting electrode, and receiving electrodes from one of the first sensor electrodes and the second sensor electrodes, inputs a first driving signal to the first transmitting electrode, and inputs a second driving signal having a phase difference of 180 degrees with respect to the first driving signal to the second transmitting electrode in a second mode operating at a second power and a third mode in which a sensing operation is performed.

Claims (17)

1. A touch panel controller, comprising:

a sensing circuit configured to drive a touch panel including a plurality of first sensor electrodes and a plurality of second sensor electrodes, to select a plurality of first receiving electrodes, a plurality of second receiving electrodes, and at least one shielding electrode from the plurality of first sensor electrodes or the plurality of second sensor electrodes, and to acquire a sensing signal from among the plurality of first receiving electrodes and the plurality of second receiving electrodes; and

a processor configured to control the sensing circuit and detect a user input using the sensing signal,

wherein the shielding electrode is disposed between the plurality of first receiving electrodes and the plurality of second receiving electrodes,

wherein the sensing circuit further selects at least one first transmitting electrode disposed between the plurality of first receiving electrodes for inputting a first driving signal, and at least one second transmitting electrode disposed between the plurality of second receiving electrodes for inputting a second driving signal having a phase different from a phase of the first driving signal,

wherein a first mutual capacitance is formed between the at least one first transmitting electrode and the plurality of first receiving electrodes, and a second mutual capacitance formed between the at least one second transmitting electrode and the plurality of second receiving electrodes.

2. The touch panel controller of claim 1 , wherein the second driving signal has a phase difference of 180 degrees with respect to the first driving signal.

3. The touch panel controller of claim 2 , wherein a number of the at least one first transmitting electrode is the same as the number of the at least one second transmitting electrode.

4. The touch panel controller of claim 2 , wherein the sensing circuit acquires the sensing signal by detecting a change in the first mutual capacitance produced between the at least one first transmitting electrode and the plurality of first receiving electrodes and a change in the second mutual capacitance produced between the at least one second transmitting electrode and the plurality of second receiving electrodes.

5. The touch panel controller of claim 4 ,

wherein the sensing signal includes a first sensing signal corresponding to a change in the first mutual capacitance and a second sensing signal corresponding to a change in the second mutual capacitance, and

wherein the sensing circuit detects the user input using a differential signal of the first sensing signal and the second sensing signal.

6. The touch panel controller of claim 1 , wherein the sensing circuit acquires the sensing signal by detecting a change in first self capacitance produced by the plurality of first receiving electrodes and a change in second self capacitance produced by the plurality of second receiving electrodes.
