Abstract

A storage system has storage devices and a storage controller that includes a processing device. The processing device is to receive a request for portions of data stored at locations of one or more storage devices. The processing device is to generate a file at a storage device. The file corresponds to a view of the portions of data stored at the locations of the one or more storage devices. The processing device is to identify the portions of data that are stored at the locations of the one or more storage devices. The processing device is to provide the view comprising the portions of data.

Claims (31)

1. A storage system comprising:

a plurality of storage devices; and

a storage controller, operatively coupled to the plurality of storage devices, the storage controller comprising a processing device, the processing device configured to:

receive a request to form a view of a composite file from portions of a set of files stored at a plurality of locations of one or more of the plurality of storage devices, the set of files corresponding to multiple different files;

provide, based on the request, the view of the composite file at a storage device of the plurality of storage devices, the composite file comprising the portions of the set of the files, wherein the portions of the set of files provided in the view reflect modifications to the portions of the set of files provided in the view and wherein the composite file is a virtualized file.

2. The storage system of claim 1 , wherein the processing device is further configured to:

provide a command to the storage device to generate the view of the composite file, the command comprising information associated with the portions of the set of files.

3. The storage system of claim 1 , wherein the processing device is further configured to:

generate a virtualized platform comprising a concatenation of the portions of the set of files.

4. The storage system of claim 3 , wherein the storage system utilizes usage patterns for concatenation of the portions of the set of files.

5. The storage system of claim 1 , wherein the multiple different files have differing permissions associated with respective portions of the multiple different files.

6. The storage system of claim 1 , wherein the portions of the multiple files is not duplicated to provide the view.

7. A method of storage system operation, comprising:

receiving a request to form a view of a composite file from portions of a set of files stored at a plurality of locations of one or more of the plurality of storage devices, the set of files corresponding to multiple different files; and

provide, based on the request, the view of the composite file at a storage device of the plurality of storage devices, the composite file comprising the portions of the set of the files, wherein the portions of the set of files provided in the view reflect modifications to the portions of the set of files provided in the view and wherein the composite file is a virtualized file.

8. The method of storage system operation of claim 7 , further comprising:

providing a command to the storage device to generate the view of the composite file, the command comprising information associated with the portions of the set of files.

9. The method of storage system operation of claim 7 , further comprising:

generating a virtualized platform comprising a concatenation of the portions of the set of files.

10. The method of storage system operation of claim 9 , wherein the storage system utilizes usage patterns for concatenation of the portions of the set of files.

11. The method of storage system operation of claim 7 , wherein the portions of the set of files correspond to portions of buckets stored at the one or more of the plurality of storage devices.

12. The method of storage system operation of claim 7 , wherein the multiple different files have differing permissions associated with respective portions of data of the multiple different files.

13. A tangible, non-transient, computer-readable media having instructions thereupon for a processing device configured to:

receive a request to form a view of a composite file from portions of a set of files stored at a plurality of locations of one or more of the plurality of storage devices, the set of files corresponding to multiple different files;

provide, based on the request, the view of the composite file at a storage device of the plurality of storage devices, the composite file comprising the portions of the set of the files, wherein the portions of the set of files provided in the view reflect modifications to the portions of the set of files provided in the view and wherein the composite file is a virtualized file.

14. The computer-readable media of claim 13 , wherein the instructions are further for the processing device are configured to:

provide command to the storage device to generate the view of the composite file, the command comprising information associated with the portions of the set of files.

15. The computer-readable media of claim 13 , wherein instructions are further configured to:

generate a virtualized platform comprising a concatenation of the portions of the set of files.

16. The computer-readable media of claim 15 , wherein the storage system utilizes usage patterns for concatenation of the portions of the set of files.

17. The computer-readable media of claim 13 , wherein the multiple different files have differing permissions associated with respective portions of the multiple different files.
