Abstract

A method for manufacturing a tip housing for the distal tip of a vision device such as an endoscope is disclosed. The method includes providing a molding tool, introducing in the molding tool a first housing material, introducing in the molding at least one further housing material different from the first housing material, allowing the at least one further housing material to set and form a combined housing component with the first molding material, and removing the combined housing component from the molding tool.

Claims (24)

1. A tip housing for a distal tip of a disposable endoscope, said tip housing comprising:

a circumferential wall comprising a first polymer material that is opaque and having a distal end and a proximal end;

a support wall integrally formed with the circumferential wall at the distal end and defining a longitudinal receptacle, the support wall comprising the first polymer material; and

a window comprising a second polymer material that is transparent and fused with the first polymer material, the window comprising an inner surface and an outer surface and being positioned at least in part within the longitudinal receptacle; and

a light source window integrally formed with the window and comprising the second material,

wherein the circumferential wall and the window define an inner spacing adapted to accommodate a light source and an electronic vision device having a field of view directed at the inner surface of the window, and

wherein the light source window is longitudinally aligned with the light source after assembly.

2. The tip housing of claim 1 , wherein the support wall is adapted to guide and position the electronic vision device with respect to the window.

3. The tip housing of claim 2 , wherein the longitudinal receptacle of the support wall has an arcuate inner circumference.

4. The tip housing of claim 1 , wherein the light source window comprises a light guide protruding inwardly toward the inner spacing, the light source window extending inwardly from the inner surface of the window.

5. The tip housing of claim 1 , wherein the window and the light source window are separated at least in part by the support wall.

6. The tip housing of claim 5 , wherein the window, the light source window, and a distal surface of the support wall lie on a common plane.

7. The tip housing of claim 1 , wherein the second polymer material is a thermoplastic material.

8. The tip housing of claim 1 , further comprising a first arcuate protrusion extending from the proximal end of the circumferential wall.

9. The tip housing of claim 1 , further comprising a first arcuate protrusion and a second arcuate protrusion, the first arcuate protrusion and the second arcuate protrusion adapted to receive and retain a tube forming a working channel of the endoscope.

10. An endoscope comprising the tip housing of claim 1 .

11. The endoscope of claim 10 , wherein the tip housing further comprises a first arcuate protrusion and a second arcuate protrusion, the first arcuate protrusion and the second arcuate protrusion adapted to receive and retain a tube forming a working channel of the endoscope.

12. The endoscope of claim 10 , further comprising the light source and the electronic vision device.

13. The endoscope of claim 12 , wherein the light source window comprises a light guide protruding inwardly toward the inner spacing, the light source window extending inwardly from the inner surface of the window.

14. The endoscope of claim 12 , wherein the longitudinal receptacle of the support wall has an arcuate inner circumference.

15. The endoscope of claim 12 , the endoscope further comprising the light source, the electronic vision device, and a working channel tube, and the tip housing further comprising a first arcuate protrusion and a second arcuate protrusion, the first arcuate protrusion and the second arcuate protrusion receiving and retaining the working channel tube.

16. The endoscope of claim 12 , wherein the window and the light source window are separated at least in part by the support wall.

17. The endoscope of claim 12 , wherein the window, the light source window, and a distal surface of the support wall lie on a common plane.

18. The endoscope of claim 12 , the tip housing further comprising a first arcuate protrusion extending from the proximal end of the circumferential wall.
