Abstract

An apparatus, a system and a process for regulating a wellhead control mechanism. The apparatus may control actuation of a wellhead control mechanism by moving a moveable body of the apparatus between a first position and a second position. When the apparatus is in the first position a valve actuator is actuatable. When the apparatus is in the second position the valve actuator is physically interfered from actuating. Additionally, when the apparatus is in the second position, the wellhead control mechanism cannot be actuated and is held in either an open, a partially open or a closed position. Further, a system may directly control actuation of a wellhead actuation mechanism.

Claims (14)

1. A process for regulating an operational position of a hydraulic fracturing, zipper manifold valve, the process comprising steps of:

receiving by a controller circuit condition-based information generated by a sensor, wherein the sensor is operatively coupled to equipment for generating the condition-based information, wherein the equipment is configured to facilitate or perform a hydraulic-fracturing operation;

processing the received condition-based information to determine if it is safe to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve;

generating a command signal that regulates the operational position of the zipper manifold valve, wherein the command signal is configured to maintain or change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve; and

receiving the command signal by an actuator and based upon the command signal the actuator is configured to maintain or change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve,

wherein the condition-based information is fluid-based sensory information based upon a fluid pressure or a fluid flow rate detected by the sensor within one or more conduits that are in fluid communication with the zipper manifold valve and wherein it is safe to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve if the fluid pressure or the fluid flow rate is below a predetermined threshold and wherein it is not safe to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve if the fluid pressure or the fluid flow rate is at or above the predetermined threshold.

2. The process of claim 1 , wherein the condition-based information is object-based sensory information based upon a position of an object that is detected by the sensor within a wellhead that is operatively coupled to the zipper manifold valve, and wherein it is safe to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve if the object is detected above a predetermined position within the wellhead and wherein it is not safe to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve if the object is detected below the predetermined position within the wellhead.

3. The process of claim 1 , wherein the condition-based information is object-based sensory information based upon an operational position of a wellhead control mechanism that is detected by the sensor, and wherein it is safe to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve if the operational position of the wellhead control mechanism is closed and wherein it is not safe to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve if the operational position of the wellhead control mechanism is open.

4. The process of claim 1 , wherein the condition-based information is object-based sensory information based upon an operational position of a wellhead control mechanism that is detected by the sensor, and wherein it is safe to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve if the operational position of the wellhead control mechanism is open and wherein it is not safe to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve if the operational position of the wellhead control mechanism is closed.

5. The process of claim 1 , wherein if the processing of the received condition-based information determines it is safe to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve, the command signal will cause the actuator to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve.

6. The process of claim 1 , wherein if the processing of the received condition-based information determines it is not safe to change the operational position of the zipper manifold valve, the command signal will cause the actuator to maintain the operational position of the zipper manifold valve.

7. The process of claim 1 , wherein changing the operational position of the zipper manifold valve opens or closes a fluid flow path through, to or from a section of a wellhead that is operatively coupled to the zipper manifold valve.

8. The process of claim 1 , wherein the equipment is one or more of:

the wellhead control mechanism, a fluid conduit, hydraulic-fracturing equipment, wireline-associated equipment, coiled-tubing associated equipment or any combination thereof.
