Abstract

System and methods are disclosed herein for creating interaction path records using time thresholds between interaction paths. The system retrieves the time threshold and a plurality of user interaction records that each include a timestamp. The system sorts the plurality of user interaction records based on the timestamp. The system then identifies the path-start record as being separated from a prior interaction by an amount of time that exceeds the time threshold. The system identifies the path-end record as being separated from a subsequent interaction by an amount of time that exceeds the time threshold. The system creates an interaction path record, stores that records, and generates a summary with information about the path.

Claims (68)

1. A method for generating interaction path details from a plurality of user interaction records, the method comprising:

retrieving the plurality of user interaction records;

determining an end point threshold based on the plurality of user interaction records, wherein the end point threshold is a maximum amount of time between interaction points before an interaction path is considered ended;

identifying changing user patterns in the plurality of user interaction records;

tuning the end point threshold based on the changing user patterns; and

providing, for display, a user interface to display a representation of the plurality of user interaction records and a plurality of interaction paths associated with the plurality of user interaction records.

2. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

analyzing multiple end point thresholds and selecting an appropriate end point threshold for a given set of interaction points.

3. The method of claim 2 , comprising:

selecting the end point threshold on a device identified by a user identifier or a device identifier.

4. The method of claim 3 , comprising:

determining nodes visited on an interaction path of the plurality of interaction paths; and

modifying the selecting of the end point threshold based on the nodes visited in the interaction path.

5. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

determining that a series of end point thresholds correspond with a series of average times between interaction paths that have a low rate of change or are steady with respect to the end point thresholds.

6. The method of claim 5 , comprising:

correlating one of the end point thresholds as an ideal end point threshold.

7. The method of claim 6 , comprising:

identifying candidate end point thresholds for tuning.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface includes at least one of summary statistics, facet panels, a list of interaction paths, or an interactive graphic.

9. The method of claim 1 , comprising:

identifying one or more of the interaction paths that ended unexpectedly; and

annotating the one or more of the interaction paths that ended unexpectedly in the user interface.

10. The method of claim 1 ,

wherein each of the plurality of user interaction records comprises a timestamp,

wherein the method comprises:

retrieving a time threshold, wherein the time threshold is an amount of time used in determining whether two consecutive interactions are in one interaction path;

sorting the plurality of user interaction records based on the timestamp in each of the plurality of user interaction records;

identifying a path-start record from the plurality of user interaction records, wherein a difference between the timestamp in the path-start record and the timestamp of a user interaction record immediately before the path-start record exceeds the time threshold;

identifying a path-end record from the plurality of user interaction records, wherein a difference between the timestamp in the path-end record and the timestamp of a user interaction record immediately after the path-end record exceeds the time threshold;

creating an interaction path record comprising the path-start record, the path-end record, and a plurality of user interaction records between the path-start record and the path-end record; and

storing the interaction path record, and

wherein the user interface includes display of details of the interaction path record.

11. A system for generating interaction path details from a plurality of user interaction records, the system comprising:

communication circuitry configured to:

retrieve the plurality of user interaction records; and

control circuitry configured to:

determine an end point threshold based on the plurality of user interaction records, wherein the end point threshold is a maximum amount of time between interaction points before an interaction path is considered ended;

identify changing user patterns in the plurality of user interaction records;

tune the end point threshold based on the changing user patterns; and

provide, for display, a user interface to display a representation of the plurality of user interaction records and a plurality of interaction paths associated with the plurality of user interaction records.

12. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to:

analyze multiple end point thresholds and selecting an appropriate end point threshold for a given set of interaction points.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to:

select the end point threshold on a device identified by a user identifier or a device identifier.

14. The system of claim 13 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to:

determine nodes visited on an interaction path of the plurality of interaction paths; and

modify the selecting of the end point threshold based on the nodes visited in the interaction path.

15. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to:

determine that a series of end point thresholds correspond with a series of average times between interaction paths that have a low rate of change or are steady with respect to the end point thresholds.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to:

correlate one of the end point thresholds as an ideal end point threshold.

17. The system of claim 16 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to:

identify candidate end point thresholds for tuning.

18. The system of claim 11 , wherein the user interface includes at least one of summary statistics, facet panels, a list of interaction paths, or an interactive graphic.

19. The system of claim 11 , wherein the control circuitry is configured to:

identify one or more of the interaction paths that ended unexpectedly; and

annotate the one or more of the interaction paths that ended unexpectedly in the user interface.

20. The system of claim 11 ,

wherein each of the plurality of user interaction records comprises a timestamp,

wherein the control circuitry is configured to:

retrieve a time threshold, wherein the time threshold is an amount of time used in determining whether two consecutive interactions are in one interaction path;
