Abstract

A communication method and system for converging a fifth generation (5G) communication system for supporting higher data rates beyond a fourth generation (4G) system with a technology for internet of things (IoT) are provided. The communication method and system may be applied to intelligent services based on the 5G communication technology and the IoT-related technology, such as smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car, connected car, health care, digital education, smart retail, security and safety services. A method of a terminal for receiving data in a cellular network is provided. The method comprises receiving a synchronization signal block (SS block) including at least one synchronization signal and a broadcast channel from a base station, identifying an offset between the SS block and a resource block (RB) grid from system information in the broadcast channel, and determining the resource block grid based on the offset.

Claims (38)

1. A method performed by a terminal in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

receiving, from a base station, a synchronization signal block (SSB) including at least one synchronization signal and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) including a master information block (MIB); and

identifying a resource block (RB) grid based on a subcarrier offset included in the MIB,

wherein the subcarrier offset is defined by a number of subcarriers from a lowest subcarrier in a lowest RB overlapping with the SSB to a lowest subcarrier in the SSB, and

wherein the subcarrier offset is indicated by a 4-bit value.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein information on the lowest RB is included in a system information block received from the base station.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein an RB in the RB grid includes 12 consecutive subcarriers in a frequency domain.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein a subcarrier spacing of the lowest RB is assumed as 15 kilohertz (kHz).

5. A method performed by a base station in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

identifying a resource block (RB) grid based on a subcarrier offset; and

transmitting, to a terminal, a synchronization signal block (SSB) including at least one synchronization signal and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) including a master information block (MIB),

wherein the subcarrier offset is included in the MIB,

wherein the subcarrier offset is defined by a number of subcarriers from a lowest subcarrier in a lowest RB overlapping with the SSB to a lowest subcarrier in the SSB, and

wherein the subcarrier offset is indicated by a 4-bit value.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein information on the lowest RB is included in a system information block transmitted to the terminal.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein an RB in the RB grid includes 12 consecutive subcarriers in a frequency domain.

8. The method of claim 5 , wherein a subcarrier spacing of the lowest RB is assumed as 15 kilohertz (kHz).

9. A terminal in a wireless communication system, the terminal comprising:

a transceiver; and

a controller configured to:

receive, from a base station via the transceiver, a synchronization signal block (SSB) including at least one synchronization signal and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) including a master information block (MIB), and

identify and a resource block (RB) grid based on a subcarrier offset included in the MIB,

wherein the subcarrier offset is defined by a number of subcarriers from a lowest subcarrier in a lowest RB overlapping with the SSB to a lowest subcarrier in the SSB, and

wherein the subcarrier offset is indicated by a 4-bit value.

10. The terminal of claim 9 , wherein information on the lowest RB is included in a system information block received from the base station.

11. The terminal of claim 9 , wherein an RB in the RB grid includes 12 consecutive subcarriers in a frequency domain.

12. The terminal of claim 9 , wherein a subcarrier spacing of the lowest RB is assumed as 15 kilohertz (kHz).

13. A base station in a wireless communication system, the base station comprising:

a transceiver; and

a controller configured to:

identify a resource block (RB) grid based on a subcarrier offset, and

transmit, to a terminal via the transceiver, a synchronization signal block (SSB) including at least one synchronization signal and a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) including a master information block (MIB),

wherein the subcarrier offset is included in the MIB,

wherein the subcarrier offset is defined by a number of subcarriers from a lowest subcarrier in a lowest RB overlapping with the SSB to a lowest subcarrier in the SSB, and

wherein the subcarrier offset is indicated by a 4-bit value.

14. The base station of claim 13 , wherein information on the lowest RB is included in a system information block transmitted to the terminal.

15. The base station of claim 13 , wherein an RB in the RB grid includes 12 consecutive subcarriers in a frequency domain.

16. The base station of claim 13 , wherein a subcarrier spacing of the lowest RB is assumed as 15 kilohertz (kHz).
