Abstract

An apparatus includes an exhaust gas purification device configured to be coupled to a cylinder head of an engine via a bracket, the exhaust gas purification device defined by a housing including a body portion, a first end portion, and a second end portion, the body portion interposed between the first end portion and the second end portion, the first end portion configured to be coupled to the bracket.

Claims (85)

1. An engine apparatus comprising:

an engine comprising an exhaust gas purification device; and

wherein:

the exhaust gas purification device is configured to be coupled to a cylinder head by a plurality of brackets;

each bracket of the plurality of brackets is configured to be coupled to the exhaust gas purification device; and

the plurality of brackets comprises:

an inlet side bracket configured to couple an exhaust gas inlet side end portion of the exhaust gas purification device and the cylinder head together; and

an outlet side bracket configured to couple an exhaust gas outlet side end portion of the exhaust gas purification device and the cylinder head together;

an entirety of the outlet side bracket is positioned between an inlet of the exhaust gas purification device and an outlet of the exhaust gas purification device; and

a plane that is orthogonal to a longitudinal axis of an engine output shaft of the engine passes through the exhaust gas purification device and a flywheel of the engine.

2. The engine apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein:

the outlet side bracket of the plurality of brackets comprises a bracket assembly including:

a fourth bracket comprising a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, the proximal end portion being configured to be coupled to an upper surface of an intake manifold on a second side of the cylinder head, and the distal end portion positioned above the cylinder head and arranged orthogonal to the proximal end portion;

a fifth bracket comprising a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, the proximal end portion configured to be coupled to a first side of the cylinder head, and the distal end portion arranged orthogonal to the proximal end portion and configured to be coupled to the distal end portion of the fourth bracket; and

the outlet side bracket is configured to be coupled to a coupling flange of the exhaust gas purification device.

3. The engine apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

an exhaust connecting pipe comprising:

a tube defining a hollow portion configured to supply exhaust gas from an exhaust manifold to the exhaust gas purification device; and

an exhaust gas outlet at an upper section of the exhaust connecting pipe, the exhaust gas outlet being configured to be coupled to an exhaust gas inlet of the exhaust gas purification device; and

wherein the exhaust connecting pipe is configured to be coupled to the exhaust manifold so that the exhaust gas inlet side end portion of the exhaust gas purification device is supported by the engine via the exhaust connecting pipe together with an inlet side bracket assembly.

4. The engine apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

an intake manifold, the intake manifold and an exhaust manifold being disposed on both sides of the cylinder head; and

an intake connecting pipe defining a hollow portion configured to supply fresh air to the intake manifold, the intake connecting pipe being configured to tilt toward the cylinder head as the intake connecting pipe extends upward from the intake manifold.

5. The engine apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

an exhaust connecting pipe; and

wherein:

the exhaust connecting pipe is configured to be coupled to an exhaust gas inlet of the exhaust gas purification device to support the exhaust gas purification device; and

when coupled to the exhaust gas inlet, the exhaust connecting pipe is angled toward the cylinder head as the exhaust connecting pipe extends upward.

6. The engine apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

an oil pan on a lower surface of a cylinder block and configured to store lubricant;

a support bracket comprising a first end surface, a second end surface, and a hollow portion configured to permit lubricant to pass through the support bracket; and

an oil filter disposed on a side surface of the cylinder block via the support bracket, the oil filter being configured to filter lubricant from the oil pan; and

wherein, while the first end surface of the support bracket is configured to be coupled to the cylinder block at a lower section of the support bracket, the oil filter is configured to be coupled to the second end surface of the support bracket at an upper section of the support bracket such that the oil filter is disposed above a traveling body.

7. The engine apparatus according to claim 6 , wherein:

the support bracket comprises a coupling port coupled to an external pipe configured to circulate lubricant to an external device; and

the support bracket is configured to discharge lubricant from the oil filter to an external component.

8. The engine apparatus according to claim 7 , wherein:

the external device is a forced induction device; and

the external pipe is a circulation passage configured to circulate lubricant to be supplied to the forced induction device from the support bracket.

9. The engine apparatus according to claim 6 , further comprising:

a cylinder head disposed above the cylinder block;

a cooling fan disposed on an end surface of the cylinder head farthest from the flywheel;

a coolant pump between the cooling fan and the cylinder head; and

a thermostat cover above the coolant pump, the thermostat cover comprising a coolant inlet, the coolant inlet facing sideways with respect to the cylinder head below the exhaust gas purification device.

10. The engine apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a cylinder block comprising end surfaces, the end surfaces of the cylinder block configured to be coupled to a traveling body of a traveling vehicle via a front engine mount;

the flywheel disposed on one of the end surfaces of the cylinder block intersecting the axis of the engine output shaft; and

a flywheel housing comprising a width and a height and covering the flywheel, the flywheel housing being configured such that the width is narrower than the height.

11. The engine apparatus according to claim 10 , wherein:

the flywheel housing comprises a cross-section having rounded top and bottom portions and straight side portions;

a seat projects from an upper section of the flywheel housing; and

the seat on the upper section is configured to be coupled to the traveling body via a rear engine mount.

12. The engine apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein:

the exhaust gas purification device is defined by an end surface of the exhaust gas inlet side end portion of the exhaust gas purification device, an end surface of the exhaust gas outlet side end portion of the exhaust gas purification device, and a cylindrical body portion interposed between the end surface of the exhaust gas outlet side end portion of the exhaust gas purification device and the end surface of the exhaust gas inlet side end portion of the exhaust gas purification device; and

the outlet side bracket is configured to attach to the exhaust gas outlet side end portion of the exhaust gas purification device such that the exhaust gas purification device is coupled to the cylinder head via the outlet side bracket.

13. The engine apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the inlet side bracket includes:

a first bracket configured to be coupled to a surface of the cylinder head intersecting an axis of an output shaft;

a second bracket comprising a proximal end portion and a distal end portion, the proximal end portion configured to be detachably coupled to an upper end of the first bracket, the distal end portion arranged orthogonal to the proximal end portion; and

a third bracket configured to be coupled to an end surface of the exhaust gas inlet side end portion of the exhaust gas purification device and to the distal end portion of the second bracket.

14. The engine apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein:

the outlet side bracket is coupled to the exhaust gas purification device between an inlet of the exhaust gas purification device and an outlet of the exhaust gas purification device;

the exhaust gas inlet side end portion includes the inlet of the exhaust gas purification device and a first end surface of the exhaust gas purification device; and

the exhaust gas outlet side end portion includes the outlet of the exhaust gas purification device and a second end surface of the exhaust gas purification device.

15. The engine apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein:

the inlet side bracket includes a first bracket and a second bracket, the first bracket is coupled to the cylinder head and the second bracket coupled to the exhaust gas purification device; and

the outlet side bracket includes a third bracket and a fourth bracket, the third bracket is coupled to the cylinder head and the fourth bracket is coupled to the exhaust gas purification device.

16. An apparatus comprising:

an exhaust gas purification device configured to be coupled to a cylinder head of an engine via a plurality of brackets, the exhaust gas purification device defined by a housing including a body portion, a first end portion, and a second end portion, the body portion interposed between the first end portion and the second end portion, the exhaust gas purification device configured to receive an exhaust gas at the first end portion and discharge the exhaust gas at the second end portion, an end surface of the second end portion configured to be coupled to the cylinder head via a first bracket of the plurality of brackets, and an end surface of the first end portion configured to be coupled to the cylinder head via:

a second bracket of the plurality of brackets configured to be coupled to the cylinder head;

a third bracket of the plurality of brackets including a first end and a second end opposite and orthogonal to the first end, the first end configured to be coupled to the first bracket; and

a fourth bracket of the plurality of brackets configured to be coupled to the end surface of the first end portion of the exhaust gas purification device and the second end of the second bracket.

17. The apparatus according to claim 14 , wherein:

the exhaust gas purification device is configured to receive the exhaust gas via an exhaust gas inlet pipe coupled to the body portion of the exhaust gas purification device;

the exhaust gas purification device is configured to discharge the exhaust gas via an exhaust gas outlet pipe; and

the exhaust gas inlet pipe is interposed between the first end portion and the exhaust gas outlet pipe.

18. The apparatus according to claim 16 , wherein a plane defined by the first end of the third bracket is in a different plane than a plane defined by the second end of the third bracket.

19. An apparatus comprising:

a plurality of brackets configured to be coupled to a cylinder head of an engine and an exhaust gas purification device that is configured to receive an exhaust gas at a first end portion and discharge the exhaust gas at a second end portion, the exhaust gas purification device defined by a housing including a body portion, the first end portion, and the second end portion, the body portion interposed between the first end portion and the second end portion, the plurality of brackets including:

a first bracket including a first end configured to be coupled to the cylinder head via a second bracket and a second end orthogonal to the first end and configured to be coupled to an end surface of the first end portion of the exhaust gas purification device via a third bracket; and

a fourth bracket configured to be coupled to the cylinder head and an end surface of the second end portion of the exhaust gas purification device.

20. The apparatus according to claim 19 , wherein:

the fourth bracket includes a fifth bracket and a sixth bracket;

the fifth bracket includes a third end configured to be coupled to the cylinder head and a fourth end configured to be coupled to the sixth bracket, the third end orthogonal to fourth end;

the sixth bracket includes a fifth end configured to be coupled to an intake manifold of the cylinder head and a sixth end configured to be coupled to the fourth end of the fifth bracket, the fifth end orthogonal to the sixth end; and

the fourth bracket is configured to be coupled to the exhaust gas purification device at a location interposed between an exhaust gas inlet pipe and an exhaust gas outlet pipe, the exhaust gas inlet pipe and the exhaust gas outlet pipe coupled to the exhaust gas purification device.
