Abstract

A medical device for creating an artificial knee joint or an artificial cruciate ligament in a mammal patient, the medical device comprising a transversal member adapted to be placed through at least three layers of cortical bone of the distal portion of the femoral bone, out of totally four cortical layers along a prolongation of the transversal member. The transversal member is adapted to be involved in the artificial knee joint or the artificial cruciate ligament, wherein the transversal member comprises at least one fixation portion adapted to be involved in fixation of the transversal member to at least one of the at least four layers of femoral cortical bone.

Claims (58)

1. A medical device for assisting in the fixation of artificial knee joint surface of a mammal patient; comprising

at least a first artificial knee joint surface adapted to at least partially replace the natural knee joint surfaces,

a transversal member adapted to be placed through at least three layers of cortical bone of the distal portion of the femoral bone, out of a total of four cortical layers along a prolongation of the transversal member,

wherein said artificial knee joint surface comprises a fixating member extending in a direction opposite the artificial knee joint surface, said fixating member is adapted to enter the cancellous bone of a first condyle of the femoral bone such that the transversal member can be placed through the fixating member when said fixating member is positioned in the cancellous bone of the first condyle of the femoral bone, to fixate said artificial knee joint surface; and

wherein the transversal member comprises at least one fixating portion adapted to be involved in fixation of the transversal member

wherein the fixating member comprise a tibial portion configured to enter the tibia,

wherein the tibial portion comprise a tibial bone anchoring device adapted to adjust a transversal extension of the tibial portion.

The medical device according to claim 1 , further comprising a second artificial knee joint surface comprising a fixating member extending in a direction opposite the artificial knee joint surface, wherein said fixating member is adapted to be placed in the cancellous bone of a second condyle of the femoral bone such that said transversal member can be placed through said fixating member when said fixating member is positioned in the cancellous bone of the second condyle, to fixate the second artificial knee joint surface.

3. The medical device according to claim 1 , wherein the fixating portion of the transversal member is adapted to be involved in the fixation of the transversal member to at least one of the four layers of the femoral cortical bone.

4. The medical device according to claim 1 , wherein the transversal member adapted to be placed through at least four layers of cortical bone of the distal portion of the femoral bone, out of totally four cortical layers along the prolongation of the transversal member.

5. The medical device according to claim 4 , wherein the fixating portion of the transversal member is adapted to be involved in the fixation of the transversal member in a hole through the four layers of cortical bone of the distal portion of the femoral bone.

6. The medical device according to claim 5 , wherein the fixating portion comprises a first and a second fixating portion wherein the second fixating portion is adapted to be involved in the fixation of the transversal member in the hole through the four layers of cortical bone.

7. The medical device according to claim 5 , wherein the first fixating portion comprises a threaded portion adapted to be attached to a nut.

8. The medical device according to claim 6 , wherein the second fixating portion comprises a fixed stop.

9. The medical device according to claim 6 , wherein the first and second fixating portion are located at distal ends of the transversal member.

10. The medical device according to claim 1 , further comprising a bone anchoring device comprising at least one of:

a tibial bone anchoring device adapted to be introduced through the cortical tibia bone into the bone marrow of the tibia bone at an area distal to the knee joint; and

a femoral bone anchoring device, adapted to be introduced through the cortical femur bone into the bone marrow of the femur bone at an area proximal to the knee joint; wherein

the bone anchoring device is further adapted to exit the bone marrow through the cortical bone at an area site inside the normal knee joint.

11. The medical device according to claim 2 , wherein the transversal member is adapted to:

a) be placed through a first layer of cortical bone of a first condyle of the distal portion of the femoral bone;

b) be placed through the fixating member positioned in the cancellous bone of the first condyle;

c) be placed through a second layer of cortical bone of the first condyle;

e) be placed through a first layer of cortical bone of a second condyle of the distal portion of the femoral bone;

f) be place through the fixating member positioned in the cancellous bone of the second condyle; and

g) be placed through or fixated in a second layer of cortical bone of the second condyle.

12. The medical device according to claim 1 , wherein the medical device further comprises at least one artificial cruciate ligament adapted to be fixated to the transversal member at a first cruciate ligament end.

13. The medical device according to claim 12 , wherein a second cruciate

ligament end placed on the opposite end to the first cruciate ligament end is adapted to be mounted through a bone channel in the tibial bone and adapted to be fixated to the bone on the inside or after passing to the outside of the bone channel, when implanted.

The medical device according to claim 1 , wherein the medical device further comprises two artificial cruciate ligaments, one anterior and one posterior cruciate ligament; adapted to be fixated to the transversal member on at least one of; the same or different positions on the transversal member.

15. A method for fixating an artificial knee joint surface of a mammal patient; comprising the steps of

providing a first artificial knee joint surface adapted to at least partially replace the natural knee joint surfaces, wherein said artificial knee joint surface comprises a fixating member,

entering a cancellous bone of a first condyle of the femoral bone with said fixating member so that said fixating member extends in a direction opposite the artificial knee joint surface,

placing a transversal member through at least three layers of cortical bone of the distal portion of a femoral bone, out of a total of four cortical layers along a prolongation of the transversal member, such that the transversal member is placed through the fixating member when said fixating member is positioned in the cancellous bone of the first condyle of the femoral bone, to fixate said artificial knee joint surface; and

fixating the transversal member with a fixating portion of the transversal member

anchoring a tibial portion of the fixating member in the tibia

adjusting a transversal extension of the tibial portion.

16. The method according to claim 15 , further comprising the step of:

providing a second artificial knee joint surface comprising a fixating member,

placing said fixating member in the cancellous bone of a second condyle of the femoral bone such that said transversal member can be placed through said fixating member when said fixating member is positioned in the cancellous bone of the second condyle, to fixate the second artificial knee joint surface.

17. The method according to claim 16 , further comprising the step of:

a) placing the transversal member through a first layer of cortical bone of a first condyle of the distal portion of the femoral bone;

b) placing the transversal member through the fixating member positioned in the cancellous bone of the first condyle;

c) placing the transversal member through a second layer of cortical bone of the first condyle;

e) placing the transversal member through a first layer of cortical bone of a second condyle of the distal portion of the femoral bone;

f) placing the transversal member through the fixating member positioned in the cancellous bone of the second condyle; and

g) placing the transversal member through or fixate the transversal member in a second layer of cortical bone of the second condyle.

18. The method according to claim 16 , further comprising the step of:

fixating at least one artificial cruciate ligament to the transversal member at a first cruciate ligament end.

19. The method according to claim 18 , further comprising the step of:

Mounting a second cruciate ligament end, being on the opposite end to the first cruciate ligament end through a bone channel in the tibial bone, and

fixating the second cruciate ligament end to the bone on the inside or after passing to the outside of the bone channel.

20. A medical device for assisting in the fixation of artificial knee joint surface of a mammal patient; comprising

at least a first artificial knee joint surface adapted to at least partially replace the natural knee joint surfaces,

a transversal member adapted to be placed through at least three layers of cortical bone of the distal portion of the femoral bone, out of a total of four cortical layers along a prolongation of the transversal member,

wherein said artificial knee joint surface comprises a fixating member extending in a direction opposite the artificial knee joint surface, said fixating member is adapted to enter the cancellous bone of a first condyle of the femoral bone such that the transversal member can be placed through the fixating member when said fixating member is positioned in the cancellous bone of the first condyle of the femoral bone, to fixate said artificial knee joint surface; and

wherein the transversal member comprises at least one fixating portion adapted to be involved in fixation of the transversal member,

wherein the transversal member is furthermore adapted to fixate an artificial patella knee.
