Abstract

This disclosure provides systems, methods, and apparatuses for allocating wireless resources to a multiple basic service set identifier (BSSID) set including a number of BSSIDs each associated with a corresponding one of a number of access points (APs). An AP may allocate random access resources for use by stations belonging to the multiple BSSID set using a number of association identifier (AID) values based on a group AID mapping contained in a partial virtual bitmap of a traffic indication map (TIM) element. The AP may transmit a trigger frame containing the number of AID values to the stations belonging to the multiple BSSID set.

Claims (46)

1. A wireless station (STA) associated with an access point (AP) belonging to a multiple basic service set identifier (BSSID) set including a transmitted BSSID (Tx BSSID) and one or more non-transmitted BSSIDs (non-Tx BSSIDs), the STA comprising:

one or more processors; and

a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, causes the STA to:

receive a management frame carrying a traffic indication map (TIM) element including a partial virtual bitmap containing a group association identifier (AID) mapping; and

receive a trigger frame allocating random access resource units (RUs) for uplink (UL) transmissions associated with the multiple BSSID set using at least one AID value based on the group AID mapping contained in the partial virtual bitmap of the TIM element, the at least one AID value being an AID value set to zero, an AID value set to 2045, or an AID value set to 2047.

2. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the trigger frame including the AID value set to zero is configured to allocate one or more of the random access RUs to STAs associated with the transmitted BSSID.

3. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the trigger frame including the AID value set to 2045 is configured to allocate one or more of the random access RUs to unassociated STAs of the multiple BSSID set.

4. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the trigger frame including the AID value set to 2047 is configured to allocate one or more of the random access RUs to all STAs of the multiple BSSID set.

5. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the trigger frame including an AID value set to the BSSID index of a respective non-transmitted BSSID is configured to allocate one or more of the random access RUs to STAs associated with the respective non-transmitted BSSID.

6. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the trigger frame comprises a broadcast frame configured to allow any STA of the multiple BSSID set to contend for channel access to random access RUs identified by the trigger frame.

7. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the trigger frame comprises a multicast frame configured to allow a selected group of STAs of the multiple BSSID set to contend for channel access to random access RUs identified by the trigger frame.

8. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the trigger frame includes a transmitter address set to the BSSID index of the transmitted BSSID.

9. The STA of claim 8 , wherein the trigger frame allocates one or more random access RUs for UL transmissions to STAs associated with the transmitted BSSID.

10. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the trigger frame includes an AID12 subfield set to zero.

11. The STA of claim 1 , wherein execution of the instructions further causes the STA to:

determine a presence of downlink (DL) data in one or more of the transmitted BSSID or the one or more non-transmitted BSSIDs based on the partial virtual bitmap indicated by the management frame; and

determine the allocation of random access RUs based on the at least one AID value indicated by the trigger frame.

12. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the management frame further includes:

an indication that the AP operates the multiple BSSID set and is associated with the Tx BSSID; and

a random access parameter set (RAPS) element indicating orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) contention window values for stations associated with the Tx BSSID.

13. The STA of claim 12 , wherein execution of the instructions further causes the STA to:

inherit the RAPS element from the Tx BSSID based on an absence of any RAPS element corresponding to the respective non-Tx BSSID.

14. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the partial virtual bitmap indicates one or more of a presence of group address traffic for the transmitted BSSID, a presence of group address traffic for the one or more non-transmitted BSSIDs, or a presence of queued downlink (DL) data for unassociated stations.

15. The STA of claim 1 , wherein the trigger frame is received from an access point (AP) corresponding to a respective one of the non-Tx BSSIDs, the trigger frame including a transmitter address (TA) set to a MAC address of the respective non-Tx BSSID.

16. A method of wireless communications by a wireless station (STA) associated with an access point (AP) belonging to a multiple basic service set identifier (BSSID) set including a transmitted BSSID (Tx BSSID) and one or more non-transmitted BSSIDs (non-Tx BSSIDs), the method comprising:

receiving a management frame carrying a traffic indication map (TIM) element including a partial virtual bitmap containing a group association identifier (AID) mapping; and
