Abstract

A method for performing in a positioning, navigation, tracking, frequency-measuring, or timing system is provided. The method comprises: providing first and second estimates of at least one system parameter during a first time period, wherein the at least one system parameter has a true value and/or true evolution over time during the first time period; providing a local signal; receiving, at a receiver, a signal from a remote source; providing a correlation signal by correlating the local signal with the received signal; providing amplitude and/or phase compensation of at least one of the local signal, the received signal and the correlation signal based on each of the first and second estimates so as to provide first and second amplitude-compensated and/or phase-compensated correlation signals corresponding to the first and second estimates of the at least one system parameter during the first time period, and; determining which of the first and second estimates is nearer the true value and/or true evolution over time of the at least one system parameter during the first time period, based on a comparison between the first and second amplitude-compensated and/or phase-compensated correlation signals. A computer readable medium and system are also disclosed.

Claims (32)

1. A method for performing sensor control for a signal processing system, comprising:

receiving at least one signal from at least one remote source;

determining motion of at least a portion of the signal processing system;

correlating at least one local signal with the at least one received signal to generate at least one correlation result;

motion compensating the at least one local signal, the at least one received signal or the at least one correlation result using the determined motion to produce at least one motion compensated correlation result;

compensating a phase evolution of at least one of the at least one local signal, the at least one received signal and the at least one motion compensated correlation result based on a plurality of hypotheses regarding at least one sensor parameter of at least one sensor to generate at least one phase-compensated correlation result;

determining a preferred hypothesis in the plurality of hypotheses that maximizes the at least one phase compensated correlation result, wherein the determining the preferred hypothesis further comprises combining a plurality of phase compensated correlation results to generate a joint score and determining the preferred hypothesis associated with a highest joint score; and

adjusting the at least one sensor parameter to conform to the determined preferred hypothesis.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein adjusting the at least one sensor parameter compensates for parameter drift of at least one sensor.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor is at least one of an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, barometer, or inertial sensor.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor parameter comprises bias and/or drift rate of at least one sensor.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the at least one sensor parameter is a parameter related to at least one of motion, position, orientation, or heading of the signal processing system.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein determining motion further comprises measuring or assuming the motion of the at least one portion of the signal processing system.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein each hypothesis in the plurality of hypotheses are based, at least in part, on the measured or assumed movement of the signal processing system.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the adjusting comprises calibrating the at least one sensor.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the at least one sensor is at least one of an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, barometer, or inertial sensor.

10. Apparatus for performing signal correlation within a signal processing system, comprising at least one processor and at least one non-transient computer readable medium for storing instructions that, when executed by the at least one processor, causes the apparatus to perform operations comprising:

receiving at least one signal from at least one remote source;

determining motion of at least a portion of the signal processing system;

correlating at least one local signal with the at least one received signal to generate at least one correlation result;

motion compensating the at least one local signal, the at least one received signal or the at least one correlation result using the determined motion to produce at least one motion compensated correlation result;

compensating a phase evolution of at least one of the at least one local signal, the at least one received signal and the at least one motion compensated correlation result based on a plurality of hypotheses regarding at least one sensor parameter of at least one sensor to generate at least one phase-compensated correlation result;

determining a preferred hypothesis in the plurality of hypotheses that maximizes the at least one phase compensated correlation result, wherein the determining the preferred hypothesis further comprises combining a plurality of phase compensated correlation results to generate a joint score and determining the preferred hypothesis associated with a highest joint score; and

adjusting the at least one sensor parameter to conform to the determined preferred hypothesis.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein adjusting the at least one sensor parameter compensates for parameter drift of at least one sensor.

12. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the at least one sensor is at least one of an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, barometer, or inertial sensor.

13. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the at least one sensor parameter comprises bias and/or drift rate of at least one sensor.

14. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the at least one sensor parameter is a parameter related to at least one of motion, position, orientation, or heading of the signal processing system.

15. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein determining motion further comprises measuring or assuming the motion of the at least one portion of the signal processing system.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein each hypothesis in the plurality of hypotheses are based, at least in part, on the measured or assumed movement of the signal processing system.

17. The apparatus of claim 10 , wherein the adjusting comprises calibrating the at least one sensor.

18. The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein the at least one sensor is at least one of an accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, barometer, or inertial sensor.
