Abstract

An interlocking disc includes a hub with an inner circular area with an inner thickness and a circular step. A plurality of petals circumferentially spaced apart extend radially outward from the outer area of the hub. Each of the plurality of petals are disposed within a common plane and include a catch on each of side of each petal. The catch is engageable to a circular stop of another interlocking disc to inhibit disassembly.

Claims (36)

1. An interlocking disc comprising:

a hub comprising an inner area, an outer area, and a circular step between the inner area and the outer area;

a plurality of petals circumferentially spaced apart and extending radially outward from the hub;

a plurality of notches defined between sides of the plurality of petals;

a catch disposed on each of the plurality of petals configured to engage a circular step of another interlocking disc to inhibit disassembly, wherein each of the plurality of petals are disposed within a common plane;

a plurality of ramps disposed circumferentially aligned with a corresponding one of the plurality of notches, and the plurality of ramps are disposed within the outer area of the hub; and

a node disposed on each of the sides of the plurality of petals between the catch and the outer area of the hub.

2. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of notches includes a notch width parallel to the common plane between adjacent sides of the plurality of petals and the notch width is less than or equal to an outer thickness of the outer area.

3. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of notches includes a notch width between adjacent sides of the plurality of petals, and a first spacing parallel to the common plane between nodes on adjacent sides of the plurality of petals is less than the notch width.

4. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 3 , wherein a second spacing parallel to the common plane between catches on adjacent sides of the plurality of petals is less than the notch width and the first spacing.

5. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 4 , wherein the catch is disposed radially outward of the hub a distance greater than a radial distance to the node.

6. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of notches includes a notch width between adjacent sides of the plurality of petals, and each ramp is of a circumferential width greater than or equal to the notch width of a corresponding notch of the plurality of notches.

7. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 1 , wherein each of the plurality of notches includes a notch width between adjacent sides of the plurality of petals, and each ramp includes an entrance with a thickness in a direction transverse to the common plane that is less than the notch width of a corresponding notch of the plurality of notches.

8. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 1 , wherein the hub is circular shaped and includes a central circular opening.

9. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 8 , wherein an outer perimeter of the central circular opening is spaced apart from the ramp a distance equal to or greater than a radial length of the notch from the ramp to an outer perimeter of the plurality of petals.

10. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 1 , comprising at least one indentation on at least one of the plurality of petals, wherein the catch is configured for engagement to the at least one indentation of another interlocking disc to inhibit disassembly.

11. An interlocking disc comprising:

a hub;

a plurality of petals circumferentially spaced apart and extending radially outward from the hub;

a plurality of notches defined between a plurality of sides of the plurality of petals;

a catch on each of the plurality of sides of the plurality of petals, the catch is spaced a first radial distance from a radially inner end of a corresponding notch of the plurality of notches; and

at least one indentation on at least one surface of a petal of the plurality of petals for receiving the catch of the petal of a second disc that is structurally identical to the interlocking disc, the at least one indentation comprises a bottom wall, a radially distal end, and a plurality of perimeter walls, the plurality of perimeter walls define an enclosed perimeter of the indentation, the plurality of perimeter walls comprise a distal end wall, the radially distal end comprises the distal end wall, the bottom wall meets the distal end wall at an angular intersection, the at least one surface is transverse to at least one side of the plurality of sides, and a distal end portion of the petal from a radial end of the petal to the distal end wall of the indentation is sized to occupy substantially all of the first radial distance of the notch of the second disc.

12. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 11 , comprising a node on each of the sides of the plurality of petals.

13. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 12 , wherein a first spacing parallel to a common plane between nodes on adjacent sides of the plurality of petals is less than a thickness of each of the plurality of petals in a direction transverse to the common plane.

14. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 13 , wherein a second spacing parallel to the common plane between catches on adjacent sides of the plurality of petals is less than or equal to an inner thickness of an inner circular area of the hub.

15. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 11 , wherein the at least one indentation is a first indentation, and the at least one surface is a first surface, and the petal comprising a second indentation on a second surface opposite of the first surface, where a distal end wall of the second indentation is aligned with the distal end wall of the first indentation transverse to a common plane comprising the plurality of petals.

16. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 11 , wherein the at least one indentation comprises a rectangular distal portion and a triangular proximal portion, and the at least one indentation terminates interior of a perimeter of the at least one surface.

17. An interlocking disc comprising:

a hub comprising a stop;

a plurality of petals extending radially outward from the hub;

a plurality of notches defined between sides of the plurality of petals;

a catch disposed on each of the plurality of petals, each catch facing the hub and defining a portion of a corresponding notch of the plurality of notches; and

a plurality of ramps disposed within the hub and aligned with a corresponding one of the plurality of notches, each of the plurality of ramps comprise an entrance and an end, the end has a greater thickness than the entrance, each entrance is between the corresponding end and a corresponding one of the plurality of notches.

18. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 17 , wherein each of the plurality of petals includes an indentation on each of a first surface and a second surface and the catch on the side of the plurality of petals is configured to engage the indentation of another interlocking disc.

19. The interlocking disc as recited in claim 18 , wherein each of the plurality of petals are disposed within a common plane, the stop is a circular step, the hub includes an inner area with an inner thickness in a direction transverse to the common plane that is less than an outer thickness of an outer area and the circular step disposed between the inner area and the outer area is transverse to the common plane, wherein the catch is configured to engage a step of another interlocking disc to inhibit disassembly.
