Abstract

An image decoding method according to the present invention comprises the steps of: deriving at least one merge candidate on the basis of at least one of a spatial neighboring block and a temporal neighboring block of a current block; generating a merge candidate list including the merge candidate; acquiring LX direction motion information of the current block, from a first merge candidate included in the merge candidate list; acquiring L(1−X) direction motion information of the current block, from a second merge candidate different from the first merge candidate; and performing inter-prediction on the basis of the LX direction motion information and the L(1−X) direction motion information.

Claims (42)

1. A method of decoding a video, the method comprising:

deriving merge candidates based on at least one of a spatial neighboring block or a temporal neighboring block of a current block, spatial neighboring blocks used to derive the merge candidates comprising at least one of a left neighboring block, a top neighboring block, a bottom-left neighboring block, or a top-right neighboring block;

generating a merge candidate list including the merge candidates;

obtaining first motion information of the current block based on a first merge candidate in the merge candidate list, the first merge candidate being specified based on a first merge index explicitly signaled via a bitstream;

obtaining second motion information of the current block based on a second merge candidate in the merge candidate list, the second merge candidate being different from the first merge candidate, and the second merge candidate being specified based on a second merge index explicitly signaled via the bitstream;

obtaining a first prediction block of the current block based on the first motion information;

obtaining a second prediction block of the current block based on the second motion information;

obtaining a final prediction block of the current block based on the first prediction block and the second prediction block; and

reconstructing the current block based on the final prediction block,

wherein when the second merge candidate has both L 0 motion information and L 1 motion information, only one of the L 0 motion information and the L 1 motion information of the second merge candidate is used for the second motion information.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the second merge candidate is determined by comparing the second merge index with the first merge index,

wherein when the second merge index is less than the first merge index, the second merge candidate is determined, among the merge candidates, as a merge candidate with an index equal to the second merge index, and

wherein when the second merge index is equal to or greater than the first merge index, the second merge candidate is determined, among the merge candidates, as a merge candidate with an index equal to a value adding 1 to the second merge index.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the final prediction block is generated by a weighted sum of the first prediction block and the second prediction block.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein the current block is partitioned into a first partition and a second partition,

wherein a final prediction sample in the final prediction block is generated by applying a first weight to a first prediction sample in the first prediction block and applying a second weight to a second prediction sample in the second prediction block, and

wherein the first weight and the second weight are adaptively determined based on whether the final prediction sample is positioned in the first partition or in the second partition.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein both the first partition and the second partition have a triangle shape.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein only when a number of samples belonging to the current block is greater than or equal to 64 , the first and second motion information of the current block is obtained from the first and second merge candidates in the same merge candidate list, respectively.

7. A method of encoding a video, the method comprising:

deriving merge candidates based on at least one of a spatial neighboring block or a temporal neighboring block of a current block, spatial neighboring blocks used to derive the merge candidates comprising at least one of a left neighboring block, a top neighboring block, a bottom-left neighboring block, or a top-right neighboring block;

obtaining a residual block of the current block based on an original block and the final prediction block,

wherein when the second merge candidate has both L 0 motion information and L 1 motion information, only one of the L 0 motion information and the L 1 motion information of the second merge candidate is used for the second motion information.

8. A non-transitory computer readable medium having stored thereon a compressed video data, the compressed video data comprising:

a first merge index which is used to specify a first merge candidate for a current block; and

a second merge index which is used to specify a second merge candidate for the current block,

wherein the first merge candidate and the second merge candidate are selected from a merge candidate list of the current block,

wherein the merge candidate list includes merge candidates which are determined based on at least one of a spatial neighboring block or a temporal neighboring block of the current block,

wherein spatial neighboring blocks used to derive the merge candidates comprise at least one of a left neighboring block, a top neighboring block, a bottom-left neighboring block, or a top-right neighboring block,

wherein first motion information of the current block is obtained based on the first merge candidate,

wherein second motion information of the current block is obtained based on the second merge candidate,

wherein a first prediction block of the current block is obtained based on the first motion information,

wherein a second prediction block of the current block is obtained based on the second motion information,

wherein a final prediction block of the current block is generated based on the first prediction block and the second prediction block,

wherein a reconstruction block of the current block is generated based on the final prediction block, and

wherein when the second merge candidate has both L 0 motion information and L 1 motion information, only one of the L 0 motion information and the L 1 motion information of the second merge candidate is used for the second motion information.
