Multi-component putter
An embodiment of a putter type golf club head with an upper and lower portion, made from two different materials, is enclosed herein. Other embodiments are described herein.
1. A putter type golf club head comprising:
an upper portion and a lower portion;
wherein the upper portion is made from a first material having a first density and the lower portion is made from a second material having a second density;
wherein the first density is less than the second density;
wherein the lower portion comprise a toe side periphery, a heel side periphery opposite the toe side periphery, a front edge, and a rear periphery opposite the front edge;
wherein the lower portion further comprises an aperture;
wherein the aperture is bounded by the toe side periphery, heel side periphery, front edge, and rear periphery;
the upper portion is affixed to the lower portion, and is farther from a ground plane than the lower portion;
a volume and a mass;
wherein the lower portion comprises less than 30% of the volume of the putter type golf club head; and
wherein the lower portion comprises greater than 50% of the mass of the putter type golf club head.
2. The putter type golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the aperture is circular in shape.
3. The putter type golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the first density of the first material is less than 6.0 g/cc.
4. The putter type golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the second density of the second material is greater than 7.0 g/cc.
5. The putter type golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the second density of the second material is at least 2 times greater than the first density of the first material.

The putter type golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the first material can comprise any one or combination of the following: 8620 alloy steel, S25C steel, carbon steel, maraging steel, 17-4 stainless steel, 303 stainless steel, 304 stainless steel, stainless steel alloy, tungsten, aluminum, aluminum alloy, ADC-12, or any metal suitable for creating a golf club head.
7. The putter type golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the second material can comprise any one or combination of the following: 8620 alloy steel, S25C steel, carbon steel, maraging steel, 17-4 stainless steel, 303 stainless steel, 304 stainless steel, stainless steel alloy, tungsten, aluminum, aluminum alloy, ADC-12, or any metal suitable for creating a golf club head.
8. The putter type golf club head of claim 1 , wherein the first material is ADC-12 and the second material is 304 stainless steel.
9. A putter type golf club head comprising:
an upper portion and a lower portion;
wherein the upper portion is made from a first material having a first density and the lower portion is made from a second material having a second density;
wherein the first density is less than the second density;
wherein the upper portion comprises a heel end, a toe end opposite the heel end, a strike face, a rear wall, opposite the strike face, a back edge, a crown, and an under surface opposite the crown;
the crown extends away from the strike face over at least a portion of the rear wall, and to the back edge;
wherein the lower portion comprises a toe side periphery, a heel side periphery opposite the toe side periphery, a front periphery, and rear periphery opposite the front periphery;
wherein the lower portion further comprises an aperture;
wherein the aperture is bounded by the toe side periphery, heel side periphery, front periphery, and rear periphery;
the upper portion is affixed to the lower portion, and is farther from a ground plane than the lower portion;
a volume and a mass;
wherein the lower portion comprises less than 30% of the volume of the putter type golf club head; and
wherein the lower portion comprises greater than 50% of the mass of the putter type golf club head.
10. The putter type golf club head of claim 9 , wherein the crown further comprises one or more alignment features.
11. The putter type golf club head of claim 9 , wherein the aperture is circular in shape.
12. The putter type golf club head of claim 9 , wherein the first density of the first material is less than 6.0 g/cc.
13. The putter type golf club head of claim 9 , wherein the second density of the second material is greater than 7.0 g/cc.
