Abstract

The present disclosure relates to a method of providing a laminated vacuum insulated glass (VIG) unit ( 1 ), wherein the method comprises: providing a lamination assembly ( 10 ) comprising a vacuum insulated glass (VIG) unit ( 11 ) comprising at least two, tempered glass sheets ( 11 a, 11 b ) separated by a plurality of support structures ( 12 ) distributed in a gap ( 13 ) between the tempered glass sheets ( 11 a, 11 b ), and a lamination layer ( 2 ) arranged between one of the tempered glass sheets ( 11 a, 1 b ) of the vacuum insulated glass (VIG) unit ( 11 ) and a further sheet ( 3 ), arranging the lamination assembly ( 10 ) between clamping bodies ( 7, 8 ) providing clamping surfaces ( 4, 5 ), wherein at least one of said clamping surfaces ( 4, 5 ) is configured to be displaced by one or more clamping body displacers ( 6, 21 ) to change the distance between the clamping surfaces ( 4, 5 ), and operating the clamping body displacers ( 6, 21 ) to provide a compression pressure (F) to the lamination assembly ( 10 ) by means of the clamping surfaces ( 4, 5 ), and heating the lamination assembly ( 10 ). The disclosure additionally relates to a system for providing laminated vacuum insulated glass (VIG) units ( 1 ), and use of such a system.

Claims (43)

1. A method of providing a laminated vacuum insulated glass (VIG) unit, wherein the method comprises:

providing a lamination assembly comprising

a vacuum insulated glass (VIG) unit comprising at least two, tempered glass sheets separated by a plurality of support structures distributed in a gap between the tempered glass sheets, and

a lamination layer arranged between one of the tempered glass sheets of the vacuum insulated glass (VIG) unit and a further sheet,

arranging the lamination assembly between two rigid clamping surfaces of two rigid clamping bodies, wherein at least one of said clamping surfaces is configured to be displaced by one or more clamping body displacers to change the distance between the clamping surfaces,

operating the one or more clamping body displacers to provide a compression pressure to the lamination assembly by means of the clamping surfaces, and

laminating the further sheet to the vacuum insulating glass (VIG) unit via the laminate sheet between the clamping surfaces by heating the lamination assembly to soften the lamination layer, the heating being provided by means of one or more heaters in a first heating arrangement to heat a first of the clamping surfaces and thereby to heat a first outer major surface of the lamination assembly, and one or more heaters in a second heating arrangement to heat the other of the clamping surfaces and thereby to heat a second major surface of the lamination assembly directed oppositely the first major surface of the lamination assembly;

wherein at least one of the rigid clamping bodies is configured to be displaced by the one or more clamping body displacers; and

wherein the heating of the outer major surface of the lamination assembly facing away from the further sheet is time delayed compared to a start of the heating provided at the outwardly facing major surface of the further sheet.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said compression pressure is provided simultaneously with said heating of the lamination assembly.

3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the compression pressure applied to the lamination assembly is between 1.5 and 3.5 Newton/cm 2 .

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said one or more clamping body displacers are mechanical clamping body displacers.

5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein a resilient layer is arranged between a major surface of the lamination assembly and one or both of said clamping surfaces.

6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein at least one of said resilient layers has a thickness between 2 mm and 10 mm.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said heating comprises heating both the further sheet and the major, outer surface of the VIG unit facing away from the lamination layer, as so as to prevent or reduce a thermal deflection of the VIG unit of the lamination assembly when heating the lamination layer.

8. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said lamination layer is arranged proximate to a major surface of the VIG unit comprising a sealed gap evacuation opening.

9. The method according to claim 1 , wherein said heating comprises:

that an outer major surface of the further sheet is subjected to a first heating temperature, and

that the outer major surface of the glass sheet of the vacuum insulated glass (VIG) unit facing away from the further sheet is subjected to a second heating temperature,

wherein the first temperature is higher than the second temperature.

10. The method according to claim 9 , wherein the initial heating temperature at the outwardly facing major surface of the further sheet is higher than the initial heating temperature subjected to the major surface of the glass sheet of the vacuum insulated glass (VIG) unit facing away from the further sheet.

11. The method according to claim 1 , wherein a heating of an outer major surface of the lamination assembly facing away from the further sheet by means of a first heating arrangement is time delayed compared to the start of the heating provided at the outwardly facing major surface of the further sheet by means of a further heating arrangement.

12. The method according to claim 9 , wherein

during said heating and determined at the same point in time, where T 1 is said first heating temperature and T 2 is said second heating temperature.

13. The method according to claim 1 , wherein outer major surfaces of the lamination assembly are heated according to different heating profiles.

14. The method according to claim 9 , wherein the first temperature and second temperature follow different heating profiles.

15. The method according to claim 9 , wherein the first heating temperature is provided by a first heating arrangement, and wherein the second heating temperature is provided by a second heating arrangement.

16. The method according to claim 1 , wherein a control arrangement is configured to receive lamination assembly information from a user interface and/or a sensor arrangement, and wherein said control arrangement controls one or more clamping body displacers so as to provide said compression pressure to the lamination assembly which is determined based on said received lamination assembly information.

17. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the time delay is more than 50 seconds.

18. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the time delayed heating of the outer major surface of the lamination assembly facing away from the further sheet is started by operating the clamping body displacers to reduce the distance between the clamping surfaces.
