Abstract

The present invention provides methods for large scale preparation of sterile stable liquid thrombin composition comprised of glycerol; stable liquid thrombin compositions; and hemostatic composition and kits. The present invention further provides hemostatic compositions comprised of liquid thrombin, glycerol and gelatin. Further provided herein is a method for the large-scale production of a sterile liquid thrombin composition comprised of glycerol.

Claims (5)

1. A sterile hemostatic composition comprising thrombin, gelatin, and glycerol, wherein said thrombin and gelatin are in a solid form and, wherein the glycerol is present at a concentration range of above 30% of total solids in the composition by weight, and wherein the composition is characterized in that the thrombin in the composition is at least 70% active after about 20 hours at a temperature of about 50° C.

2. The sterile hemostatic composition according to claim 1 , further comprising calcium.

3. The sterile hemostatic composition according to claim 1 , further comprising one or more excipients selected from the group consisting of sodium chloride, mannitol, albumin, and sodium acetate.

4. The sterile hemostatic composition according to claim 1 , comprising between about 100 and about 2,000 IU/ml of thrombin.

5. The sterile hemostatic composition of claim 1 , for topical use to assist in hemostasis.
