Abstract

A moving picture decoding apparatus for decoding a current block of a picture is provided. A motion vector candidate list includes motion vector candidates. Each motion vector candidate includes a value. A second candidate is arranged before a first candidate in the motion vector candidate list. The first candidate is sorted before the second candidate in the motion vector candidate list based on the value of the first candidate and the value of the second candidate. An index identifying a motion vector candidate from the motion vector candidate list is decoded, and the current block is generated using the identified motion vector candidate. The value of the first candidate is higher than the value of the second candidate, and the value is based on a number of times the candidate is selected as a motion vector predictor for neighboring blocks.

Claims (57)

1. A moving picture decoding apparatus for decoding a current block of a picture, the moving picture decoding apparatus comprising:

a processor; and

a non-transitory memory,

wherein the processor performs, using the non-transitory memory, processes including:

generating a motion vector candidate list including motion vector candidates and, for each of the motion vector candidates, a value, the motion vector candidates including a first candidate and a second candidate, the second candidate being arranged before the first candidate in the motion vector candidate list;

sorting the first candidate before the second candidate in the motion vector candidate list based on the value of the first candidate and the value of the second candidate;

decoding an index to identify a motion vector candidate from the motion vector candidate list; and

generating the current block using the identified motion vector candidate,

wherein the value of the first candidate is higher than the value of the second candidate, and

for each of the motion vector candidates, the value is based on a number of times the candidate is selected as a motion vector predictor for neighboring blocks.

2. The moving picture decoding apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the processes further include:

decoding information selecting the first candidate or the second candidate.

3. The moving picture decoding apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the processes further include:

counting the number of times each of the motion vector candidates is selected as the motion vector predictor for the neighboring blocks.

4. The moving picture decoding apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the motion vector candidates are generated from the neighboring blocks.

5. The moving picture decoding apparatus according to claim 4 ,

wherein, in the generating, the motion vector candidate list further includes a new candidate, the new candidate not being generated from the neighboring blocks, the new candidate being arranged before at least one of the first candidate or the second candidate in the motion vector candidate list, and

in the sorting, further sorting the new candidate after the at least one of the first candidate or the second candidate in the motion vector candidate list.

6. The moving picture decoding apparatus according to claim 5 ,

wherein the neighboring blocks include blocks adjacent to the current block, and

the new candidate is generated from a block adjacent one of the neighboring blocks.

7. A moving picture decoding method for decoding a current block of a picture, the moving picture decoding method comprising:

generating a motion vector candidate list including motion vector candidates and, for each of the motion vector candidates, a value, the motion vector candidates including a first candidate and a second candidate, the second candidate being arranged before the first candidate in the motion vector candidate list;

sorting, by at least one of a processor or a circuit, the first candidate before the second candidate in the motion vector candidate list based on the value of the first candidate and the value of the second candidate;

decoding an index to identify a motion vector candidate from the motion vector candidate list; and

generating the current block using the identified motion vector candidate,

wherein the value of the first candidate is higher than the value of the second candidate, and

for each of the motion vector candidates, the value is based on a number of times the motion vector candidate is selected as a motion vector predictor for neighboring blocks.

8. The moving picture decoding method according to claim 7 , further comprising:

decoding information selecting the first candidate or the second candidate.

9. The moving picture decoding method according to claim 7 , further comprising:

counting the number of times each of the motion vector candidates is selected as the motion vector predictor for the neighboring blocks.

10. The moving picture decoding method according to claim 7 , wherein the motion vector candidates are generated from the neighboring blocks.

11. The moving picture decoding method according to claim 10 ,

wherein, in the generating, the motion vector candidate list further includes a new candidate, the new candidate not being generated from the neighboring blocks, the new candidate being arranged before at least one of the first candidate or the second candidate in the motion vector candidate list, and

in the sorting, further sorting the new candidate after the at least one of the first candidate or the second candidate in the motion vector candidate list.

12. The moving picture decoding method according to claim 11 ,

wherein the neighboring blocks include blocks adjacent to the current block, and

the new candidate is generated from a block adjacent one of the neighboring blocks.

13. A non-transitory computer-readable medium including a program for decoding a current block of a picture, the program, when executed by a processor, causing the processor to perform processes, the processes comprising:

generating a motion vector candidate list including motion vector candidates and, for each of the motion vector candidates, a value, the motion vector candidates including a first candidate and a second candidate, the second candidate being arranged before the first candidate in the motion vector candidate list;

sorting the first candidate before the second candidate in the motion vector candidate list based on the value of the first candidate and the value of the second candidate;

decoding an index to identify a motion vector candidate from the motion vector candidate list; and

generating the current block using the identified motion vector candidate,

wherein the value of the first candidate is higher than the value of the second candidate, and

for each of the motion vector candidates, the value is based on a number of times the motion vector candidate is selected as a motion vector predictor for neighboring blocks.

14. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 13 , the processes further comprising:

decoding information selecting the first candidate or the second candidate.

15. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 13 , the processes further comprising:

counting the number of times each of the motion vector candidates is selected as the motion vector predictor for the neighboring blocks.

16. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 13 , wherein the motion vector candidates are generated from the neighboring blocks.

17. The non-transitory computer-readable medium according to claim 16 ,

wherein, in the generating, the motion vector candidate list further includes a new candidate, the new candidate not being generated from the neighboring blocks, the new candidate being arranged before at least one of the first candidate or the second candidate in the motion vector candidate list, and
