Abstract

A field-replaceable unit (FRU) includes a self-actuating protective cover device that includes: a protective cover, a housing component that includes a slot, a driving link component attached to the protective cover and the housing component, a supporting link component attached to the protective cover and the housing component, and an engagement component attached to the driving link component, wherein the engagement component is to be engaged by an actuation component of a mating connector and caused to move within the slot of the housing component, and the engagement component is to cause the driving link component, the supporting link component, and the protective cover to move when the engagement component moves within the slot of the housing component. The protective cover is to be positioned over one or more connectors of the FRU when the engagement component is positioned at an unengaged position within the slot of the housing component.

the engagement component is to cause the driving link component, the supporting link component, and the protective cover to move when the engagement component moves within the slot of the housing component.

2. The FRU of claim 1 , wherein:

the engagement component is to be positioned at an unengaged position within the slot of the housing component when the engagement component is not in contact with the end of the actuation component, and

the engagement component being positioned at the unengaged position is to cause the driving link component, the supporting link component, and the protective cover to be placed in a closed positional arrangement,

wherein the protective cover is to be positioned over the one or more connectors when the protective cover is in the closed positional arrangement.

3. The FRU of claim 1 , wherein:

the engagement component is to be positioned at a fully engaged position within the slot of the housing component when the engagement component in contact with the end of the actuation component and a threshold amount of the end of the actuation component is inserted into the track of the housing component, and

the engagement component being positioned at the fully engaged position is to cause the driving link component, the supporting link component, and the protective cover to be placed in an open positional arrangement,

wherein the protective cover is to not be positioned over the one or more connectors when the protective cover is in the open positional arrangement.

4. The FRU of claim 1 , wherein:

the engagement component is to be positioned at an unengaged position within the slot of the housing component when the engagement component is not in contact with the end of the actuation component,

wherein the unengaged position is located within an insertion area of the track of the housing component; and

the engagement component is to be positioned at a fully engaged position within the slot of the housing component when the engagement component is in contact with the end of the actuation component and a threshold amount of the end of the actuation component is inserted into the track of the housing component,

wherein the fully engaged position is located outside the insertion area of the track of the housing component.

5. The FRU of claim 1 , wherein the self-actuating protective cover device further includes:

a spring component that is attached to the housing component and the driving link component,

wherein the spring component is to resist movement of the engagement component by the end of the actuation component when the end of the actuation component is being inserted into the track of the housing component.

6. The FRU of claim 1 , wherein the self-actuating protective cover device further includes:

a spring component that is attached to the housing component and the driving link component,

wherein the spring component is to cause the engagement component to be positioned at an unengaged position within the slot of the housing component when the engagement component is not in contact with the end of the actuation component.

7. The FRU of claim 1 , wherein the engagement component includes a rolling portion that is to contact the end of the actuation component.

8. A field-replaceable unit (FRU), comprising:

a self-actuating protective cover device that includes:

a protective cover,

a housing component that includes a slot,

a driving link component attached to the protective cover and the housing component,

a supporting link component attached to the protective cover and the housing component, and

an engagement component attached to the driving link component, wherein:

the engagement component is to move within the slot of the housing component, and

the engagement component is to cause the driving link component, the supporting link component, and the protective cover to move when the engagement component moves within the slot of the housing component.

9. The FRU of claim 8 , wherein:

the engagement component is to be positioned at an unengaged position within the slot of the housing component when the engagement component is not in contact with an actuation component, and

the engagement component being positioned at the unengaged position is to cause the driving link component, the supporting link component, and the protective cover to be placed in a closed positional arrangement,

wherein the protective cover is to be positioned over one or more connectors of the FRU when the protective cover is in the closed positional arrangement.

10. The FRU of claim 8 , wherein:

the engagement component is to be positioned at a fully engaged position within the slot of the housing component when the engagement component is in contact with a particular portion of an end of an actuation component, and

the engagement component being positioned at the fully engaged position is to cause the driving link component, the supporting link component, and the protective cover to be placed in an open positional arrangement,

wherein the protective cover is to not be positioned over one or more connectors of the FRU when the protective cover is in the open positional arrangement.

11. The FRU of claim 8 , wherein:

the engagement component is to be positioned at an unengaged position within the slot of the housing component when the engagement component is not in contact with an end of an actuation component,
