Method and instrument for treating obesity
A gastroscopic method and instrument for treating obesity of a patient, using a device adapted to stretch a part of the stomach wall of said patient. The method comprises the steps of: inserting the device into the stomach through the esophagus, placing the device in contact with the stomach wall, and fixating the device to the stomach wall such that the device can stretch a part of the stomach wall.
1. A method of implanting a movement restriction device for treatment of reflux disease, the method comprising:
inserting a gastroscope into the esophagus of the patient,
fixating the fundus of the stomach to the esophagus at a point superior to the lower esophageal sphincter,
cutting an opening in the abdominal wall of the patient,
dissecting an area around the stomach, and
placing the movement restriction device against the stomach wall of the patient.
2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of fixating placing the movement restriction device to against the stomach wall of the patient comprises fixating the movement restriction device to the stomach wall of the patient using sutures or staplers.
3. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of fixating placing the movement restriction device against the stomach wall of the patient comprises invaginating the movement restriction device in the stomach wall of the patient.
4. The method according to claim 3 , wherein the step of invaginating the movement restriction device in the stomach wall of the patient comprises attaching portions of stomach wall to each other using sutures or staplers.
5. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of fixating the fundus of the stomach to the esophagus comprises fixating the fundus of the stomach to the esophagus using sutures or staplers.
6. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising the step of hollow instrument to fill the patient's abdomen with gas thereby expanding the patient's abdominal cavity.
7. The method according to claim 1 , further comprising placing a laparoscopic trocar in the opening cut in the abdominal wall of patient's body.
8. The method according to claim 7 , further comprising inserting a camera through the laparoscopic trocar.
9. The method according to claim 7 , further comprising inserting at least one dissecting tool through the laparoscopic trocar.
10. The method according to claim 7 , further comprising inserting an instrument comprising a holding device adapted to hold the movement restriction device through the laparoscopic trocar.
11. The method according to claim 7 , further comprising placing at least one second laparoscopic trocar in the opening in the abdominal wall of patient's body or in a second opening in the abdominal wall of patient's body.
12. The method according to claim 11 , further comprising inserting a camera through the first laparoscopic trocar and inserting at least one dissecting tool through the at least one second laparoscopic trocar.
13. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of placing the movement restriction device against the stomach wall of the patient comprises placing a movement restriction device also adapted to treat obesity to the stomach wall of the patient.
14. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of placing the movement restriction device against the stomach wall of the patient comprises placing a movement restriction device having an adjustable volume.
15. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of placing the movement restriction device against the stomach wall of the patient comprises placing a movement restriction device having a rounded shape.
16. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of placing the movement restriction device against the stomach wall of the patient comprises placing a movement restriction device having an oblong shape.
17. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the step of placing the movement restriction device against the stomach wall of the patient comprises placing a movement restriction device having a substantially spherical shape.
