Abstract

A container assembly which is especially adaptable to form a final presentation enclosure is constructed from a flat blank of material, optionally having fold lines delineating a bottom, side, and top wall portions which act in conjunction with one another to enclose a space. The side walls may be connectable by joining portions constituting bellows-type folding members. From flat, the container is constructed by folding. Joining members are folded inwardly thereby drawing up respective side walls to which they are attached. The top walls are formed so as to be exposed at the top of the container to allow securing of the top wall portions by any suitable means. There is also provided a variable volume container by means of the joining members which extend into the interior of the container. The joining members act to center and protect a smaller item within the container or can be completely moved to make available the total volume of the container.

Claims (37)

1. A fastenable wrap for food or other article comprising:

an elastomeric sheet configured to lay substantially flat on a flat surface when the wrap is in an open configuration, the sheet having:

inside and outside surfaces;

a substantially rectangular central area bounded by first, second, third, and fourth edges;

a first flap contiguous to the first edge of the central area, the first flap having a shank disposed distal to the central area and extending away from the outside surface and a button disposed at a distal end of the shank;

a second flap contiguous to the second edge of the central area, the second flap having three eyelets disposed increasingly distally to the central area;

a third flap contiguous to the third edge of the central area, the third flap having two eyelets disposed increasingly distally to the central area; and

a fourth flap contiguous to the fourth edge of the central area, the fourth flap having two eyelets disposed increasingly distally to the central area;

wherein each said eyelet is sized to be elastically deformable over the button and sized to fit onto the shank and be captured around the shank between the button and the outside surface of the first flap; and

wherein the wrap is configured to be fastened in a closed configuration around the food or other article by placing the food or other article on the inside surface of the central area, folding the first flap over article, folding the third flap over the central area and slipping one of the third flap eyelets over the button, folding the fourth flap over the central area and slipping one of the fourth flap eyelets over the button, and folding the second flap over the central area and slipping one of the second flap eyelets over the button.

2. The fastenable wrap of claim 1 further comprising imprinted indicia of folding sequence and direction proximate to the first edge of the first flap and proximate to the eyelets of each of the second, fourth, and third flaps.

3. A fastenable wrap for food or other article comprising:

an elastomeric sheet configured to lay substantially flat on a flat surface when the wrap is in an open configuration, the sheet having inside and outside surfaces, the sheet further having:

a substantially rectangular central area bounded by first, second, third, and fourth edges;

a first flap contiguous to the first edge of the central area, the first flap having a shank disposed distal to the central area and extending away from the outside surface and a button disposed at a distal end of the shank;

a second flap contiguous to the second edge of the central area, the second flap having at least one eyelet disposed distally to the central area;

a third flap contiguous to the third edge of the central area, the third flap having at least one eyelet disposed distally to the central area; and

a fourth flap contiguous to the fourth edge of the central area, the fourth flap having at least one eyelet disposed distally to the central area;

wherein each said eyelet is sized to be elastically deformable over the button and sized to fit onto the shank and be captured around the shank between the button and the outside surface of the first flap; and

wherein the wrap is configured to be fastened in a closed configuration around the food or other article by placing the food or other article on the inside surface of the central area, folding the first flap over article, folding the third flap over the central area and slipping one of the third flap eyelets over the button, folding the fourth flap over the central area and slipping one of the fourth flap eyelets over the button, and folding the second flap over the central area and slipping one of the second flap eyelets over the button.

4. The fastenable wrap of claim 3 wherein the sheet has a general uniform thickness, and the sheet has a thicker thickness than the general uniform thickness proximal to the eyelets and shank.

5. The fastenable wrap of claim 4 wherein the sheet has a thickness thinner than the general uniform thickness in areas proximal to sheet fold lines as defined by linear extensions of the third, fourth, second, and first edges of the central area, excepting intersections of said fold lines with each other and edges of the sheet.

6. The fastenable wrap of claim 5 further comprising imprinted indicia of folding sequence and direction proximate to the first edge of the first flap and proximate to the eyelets of each of the second, third, and fourth flaps.

7. The fastenable wrap of claim 5 wherein the general thickness is approximately 1 mm, the thinner thickness is approximately 0.5 mm, and the thicker thickness is approximately 1.5 mm.

8. The fastenable wrap of claim 5 wherein the thickness thinner than the general uniform thickness in areas proximal to sheet fold lines comprises channels 0.28-0.32 cm in width.

9. The fastenable wrap of claim 5 wherein the eyelets are ovoid.

10. The fastenable wrap of claim 5 wherein the central area is approximately 16-18 cm on each of its first, second, third, and fourth edges.

11. The fastenable wrap of claim 5 wherein the button comprises a tab.

12. The fastenable wrap of claim 11 wherein the tab has grip ridges.

13. The fastenable wrap of claim 11 comprising molded advertising on a surface thereof.

14. The fastenable wrap of claim 5 wherein the eyelets, button, and shank are configured to audibly and kinesthetically snap when one of the eyelets is slipped over the button and onto the shank.

15. The fastenable wrap of claim 3 wherein the sheet has a general uniform thickness, and the sheet has a thinner thickness than the general uniform thickness in areas proximal to sheet fold lines as defined by linear extensions of the first, second, third, and fourth edges of the central area, excepting intersections of said fold lines with each other and edges of the sheet.

16. The fastenable wrap of claim 3 comprising silicone rubber.

17. The wrap of claim 3 formed of silicone rubber and having a tensile strength of at least 7.5 Mpa, a Tear Strength, DieC of at least 12 Kgf/cm, and a plasticity in the range of 205-235.
